PIV Measurement of Flow Inside an Automotive HVAC Module with Varying Temperature Baffle (온도조절 격판 변화에 따른 차량용 HVAC 내부 유동의 PIV속도장 측정 연구)

  • Air flow inside an automotive HVAC module has been investigated using a high-resolution PIV technique with varying the temperature operation mode. The PIV system consists of a 2-head Nd:YAG laser (125 mJ), a high-resolution CCD camera (2K$\times$2K), optics and a synchronizer. A real automotive HVAC module was used directly under real operating condition. Some casing parts of the HVAC module were replaced with transparent windows for capturing clear flow images with laser light sheet beam illumination. Time-averaged velocity fields were obtained for two different temperature control modes. Flow characteristics of the air-conditioned air flow inside the automotive HVAC system for the two temperature baffle conditions were evaluated.

Characteristices of Temperature Distribution in a Closed Space with Heat Source and Porous Horizontal Partition (유공성 수평격판을 가진 열원이 있는 밀폐공간내의 온도분포 특성)

  • Ventilation of the marine engine room is very important for the health of the workers as well as the normal operation of machines. To find proper ventilation conditions of this engine room, numerical simulation with standard k-${\epsilon}$ model was carried out. In the present study, the marine engine room is separated to two floors with porus horizontal partition and considered as a closed space with a heat source and forced ventilation ducts. The porosity of horizontal partition is found to be important. For the engine room with 2 supply ports & 2 exhaust ports, the increasing of the porosity of horizontal partition is effective to reduce the recirculation flow zone in the second floor. When the engine room is ventilated with three supply air ports & one exhaust port, the increasing of the porosity of horizontal partition is effective to reduce the recirculating flow zone in the exhaust air area, but there is a possibility of local extreme heating at the lower side of engine near bottom.

  • This study was carried out in order to estimate the effect of heat pump performance by use of thermal tank with 3 seperation plates which were able to divide thermal tank into 3 chambers that have different temperatures levels. For testing the effect of developed thermal tank which was installed for supplying the heat to the paprika greenhouse in Jinju city. The volume of thermal storage tank was designed for $110m^3$ which was able to cover 30% of heating capacity. The temperature difference was 3 degree Celcius between high temperature and low temperature when only heating circulation was made from heat pump to thermal tank. but 5.5 degree Celcius difference was made when heating circulation of heat pump to thermal thank and hot water supplying circulation of thermal tank to greenhouse was done simultaneously. As a result of this study showed that COP of heat pump was increased by 15% or more than that of using normal thermal tank because heat pump was able to take 3 ~ 5 degree Celcius lower thermal thank water constantly.

Experimental Study of Leaching Phenomena of Cs-137 From a Cement Matrix Generated at PWR Plant (가압 경수로에서 생성된 시멘트 고화체로부터 Cs-137의 용출 현상의 실험적 연구)

  • Experimental study for the leaching behavior of Cs-137 was carried out using the simulated evaporator bottom product of PWR plant. The method of leach test proposed by the IAEA was partially modified using ANS method. The effect of various factors, i.e., sampling method, curing temperature, curing time, leachant temperature, vermiculite addition and volume-to-surface ratio, was considered in this experiment. Diffusion model in semi-infinite slab was in a good agreement with the data obtained from 4-weeks cured specimens. The effective diffusion coefficient of the specimens which were cured at the temperature of $24^{\circ}C$ for 4 weeks was found to be $1.20{\sim}1.47{\times}10^{-11}cm^2/sec$. With the experimentally obtained diffusion coefficient ($1.47{\times}10^{-11}cm^2/sec$), long-term prediction for the leaching of Cs-137 was carried out using finite-slab approximation. The estimated fraction of Cs-137 which remains in the environment is found to be less than 0.25 percent of initial amount after 100 years. About 25 years after the beginning of leaching, its fractional amount in the environment reachs the maximum value, 0.66 percent of initial amount.
