  • This study is an example of a Cinema Therapy class through the movie Life of Pi (2013). Cinema Therapy proceeds through the process of identification, empathy, projection, and observational learning through the cinema. Through research, students objectively examine the situation of the characters in the movie, identify themselves, and empathize with them. Students evaluate the situation of the character in the movie, and indirectly experience the hardships facing the character in the movie through the answer to "What would you do if I were the main character?" and think about what they would do. I admire the outstanding points of the main character and reflect on my life. Through this process, students examine the situation of their emotions and problems and specifically suggest ways to solve them. In the end, students' emotions can be fully healed through the movie. Healing through the cinema should start with the selection of the cinema in consideration of the healer's client. It is also necessary to sufficiently present a specific method of applying this. It is expected that the cinema healing plan will be able to develop further by presenting various healing methods in the future.

  • In the history, 'father' has been described as a being who not only take care of the family but also represents the family socially and supports them. Like the Western patriarchal tradition prevalent in the 19th century, fathers in Korean society also bear patriarchal paternity based on Korean traditional Confucian culture. In such a unique family culture of Korea, Korean fathers hold the patriarchal male centered idea and regard it as the roles of man and father to be responsible for the family's living and safety and to be more rational than emotional and more blunt than gentle. Social ideology for this image of father is expressed in media, and an example is the patriarchal image of father in TV dramas and movies. In order to analyze the image of Korean fathers described in films, this study selected two films and examined the semiological meanings of fathers' roles expressed in the films using Metz's syntagmatic and paradigmatic analysis method. The films chosen for case study are 'Fly Daddy', 'The Show Must Go On', and 'Speed Scandal'. These films are good examples demonstrating that Korean patriarchal paternity and its background traditional ideology are projected on media.

  • Recently Korean film industry has continuously experienced a rapid growth and expanded its influence to foreign countries. Accordingly, there have been numerous studies in various research areas to investigate the characteristics of the industry. In this study, we applied social network analysis based on the attributes such as genres, ratings, distributors, nationalities, sizes, and profitability to divide the movies into several clusters with respect to their similarity. Results suggested that the ratings and nationality rather than the genre are the major factors to divide the motion picture market into clusters and the profitability also varies much across the clusters. Furthermore, estimation of the diffusion model showed the positive relationship between the success of a movie and the word-of-mouth effect, while the relatively unsuccessful titles exhibited a monotonic decreasing diffusion pattern with the high initial demand and the early peak time.
