The study aimed to investigate what difficulties and needs North Korean refugee college students have in their college English programs and what they experience over an English tutoring program offered by pre-service English teachers. Before the tutoring started, a survey was conducted to examine the current difficulties and needs 100 NK refugee college students had. After the survey, six NK refugee college students and 12 pre-service English teachers participated in the tutoring on the voluntary basis. The survey questionnaires were analyzed statistically, and the effects of the tutoring program were analyzed qualitatively. The results show that NK refugee students reported the severe difficulties in learning English, their increased awareness of the slightly improved English skills over the tutoring program, the increased awareness of their affects, and the increased awareness of their linguistics development at the end of the tutoring. Pedagogical implications for supporting NK refugee college students are discussed.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of English integrated instruction on the 6th grade Korean elementary students' English ability using science animation. Twenty-seven students took English integrated instruction before their regular class for 10 minutes while the other students took review activity instead of it. At first, the students were asked to take the sixth grade diagnostic evaluation sponsored by C office of education in 2018 as the pre-test and ten months later, they were asked to take the first grade diagnostic evaluation of middle school sponsored by C office of education in 2017 as the post-test. Results of the study showed that the English ability and the affective attitude of the students taking English integrated instruction were improved. These results suggest that English integrated instruction can contribute to the improvement of Korean elementary students' English ability.

본 논문은 한영 교차언어 정보검색을 위한 질의 변환 방법과 질의 확장에 대해서 기술하고 있다. 한영 교차언어 정보 검색은 한국어 질의와 관련된 영어 문서를 검색하는 것을 말하며, 한국어 질의를 영어 질의로 변환하는 방법을 사용했다. 이를 위해 한국어 단어들에 대한 영어 대역어들의 공기 정보를 이용하며, 공기 정보로는 상호 정보를 사용했다. 또한 한국어와 영어의 연어 사전을 사용하여 성능을 향상시켰다. 추가적인 검색 성능 향상을 위한 방법으로, 기존 연구에서 많이 사용된 적합성 피드백에 의한 지역적 질의 확장 대신, 영어 워드넷을 확장하여 구축한 한영 이중언어 시소러스를 사용하여 질의 확장을 하는 전역적 질의 확장을 시도하였다. 실험결과, 정확률의 향상보다는 재현율의 향상 정도가 더 컸으며, 긴 질의보다 짧은 질의를 확장한 경우가 성능이 높았다.

Recently, as use of chatting system is generalized, chatting system was utilized as an education tool that study English. Chatting system that do general chatting system and Hangul limitation chatting system is used for present English chatting. This chatting system is problem to use together with English and Hangul, or do not respond because done not know contents of word and so on. This Paper proposed EPUE chatting system that can heighten education effect of leading and writting in english supporting various function that do suitable control and guidance to English chatting user, that improve performance to use together with C/S and P2P.

영어 교육 시장이 증대되면서 영어 학습을 효과적으로 지원하는 다양한 학습 시스템들이 개발되고 있다. 영어문장을 구성하는 기본적인 단위는 어휘로 문장 전체의 의미를 파악하기 위해서는 어휘의 의미를 이해하는 것이 필수적이다. 따라서 영어 어휘 능력 향상을 위한 다양한 영어 어휘 학습 시스템들이 개발되고 있으나, 어휘가 사용되는 문맥을 고려하거나 동시에 학습하면 효과적인 어휘 등 어휘 학습에 효과적인 교수학습 방법의 원리가 적용된 영어 어휘 학습 시스템에 대한 연구는 미비한 상황이다. 본 논문에서는 n 개의 영어 단어가 하나의 그룹으로 동시에 제시되면서 그 n개의 영어 단어가 모두 포함된 예문을 제공하는 지능형 영어 어휘 학습 시스템을 설계한다. 임의로 n 개의 영어 어휘가 주어졌을 경우 문맥에 맞게 영어 예문을 자동으로 생성하는 지능형 영어 문장 생성 모델이 본 연구의 핵심이다. 또한, 어휘 능력 평가에서 기존 어휘 학습 시스템과 같이 단순히 어휘를 얼마나 암기하고 있는지에 대한 평과 결과만을 제시하는 것이 아니라, 그룹별 취약 어휘 분석을 통해 효과적인 그룹 어휘 선택 규칙을 파악할 수 있는 기반을 마련하고자 한다. 본 논문에서 제안한 지능형 영어 어휘 학습 시스템을 통해 영어 어휘 학습자들의 학습 능력 향상에 도움이 될 것으로 기대한다.

한국해기사의 취약점으로 영어구사능력에 대한 지적이 끊임없이 제기되고 있다. 선상에서의 원활한 의사소통을 위해서는 해기사의 영어구사 능력을 향상시킬 필요가 있다. 본 연구는 해기사의 선상 의사소통능력 향상을 위하여 현재 시행되고 있는 해사영어 시험제도을 분석하였고, 이를 통하여 현 제도의 문제점을 식별하고 이를 해결할 수 있는 방안을 제안하였다. 식별된 문제점으로는 불충분한 면접시간, 세부지침의 부재, 지나친 전문지식 위주의 질문, 교육기관의 해사영어 커리큘럼과 선사의 요구사항의 불일치 등이며, 개선방향으로는 전문시험위원제도(가칭) 도입, 해사영어 교육콘텐츠 개발, 충분한 면접시간 확보 등이다.

영어 공인 시험에서 영어 어휘는 가장 중요한 요소 중 하나이다. 그러나 기존 영어 어휘 학습 시스템은 단순히 어휘 교재의 콘텐츠를 디지털화한 것에 그치고 있다. 영어 어휘 학습에서 동의어에 대한 학습은 언어 능력을 향상시키고 다양한 상황에서 효과적으로 의사소통할 수 있는 능력 향상에 도움이 된다. 본 연구에서는 학습자들이 영어 어휘 학습을 효과적으로 할 수 있도록 동의어 및 반의어를 활용할 수 있는 학습 시스템을 제안한다. 본 시스템은 동의어와 반의어에 대한 정보가 필요한 영어 어휘를 입력으로 받아 생성형 AI에서 동의어 및 반의어에 대한 정보를 생성한 후에 반환하는 기능을 수행한다. 본 시스템은 학습자들이 어휘 평가에서 오답으로 답한 어휘에 대해 동의어 및 반의어에 대한 추가적인 어휘와 예문을 제공하여 영어 어휘 학습의 효율성을 높일 수 있을 것이다.

비영어권 아시아 해기사들에게 체계적으로 해사관련 영어교육을 제공하기 위해서는 해사영어를 교육하는 강의자의 자질 향상과 이를 위한 훈련이 필요하다는 것을 전제로 하여, 해사 실무 교육과 영어교육이 통합된 해사영어강사훈련 프로그램의 구성과 향후 발전방향에 대하여 제시하고자 한다.

A math class in Korean university was taught in English for one semester and the students' improvement was measured in math content and English proficiency. Pre and post test in 9 week intervals showed that math content loaming in the immersion class was superior to the non-immersed class. Especially, the immersion class showed remarkable improvement in difficult problems among math content test problems. The immersion class improved in math-related English, but not in general English. It is discussed that the particular English expressions for math are hardly separable from the math content knowledge in English because understanding and using those expressions correctly means the students' understanding of math concept in English and thus the math concept itself.

Maritime English is a specialized language system designed for ship operations, maritime safety, and external and internal communication onboard. According to the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), it is imperative that navigational officers engaged in international voyages have a thorough understanding of Maritime English including the use of Standard Marine Communication Phrases (SMCP). This study measured students' proficiency in Maritime English using a learning and testing platform that includes voice recognition, translation, and word entry tasks to evaluate the resulting improvement in Maritime English exam scores. Furthermore, the study aimed to investigate the level of platform use needed for cadets to qualify as junior navigators. The experiment began by examining the correlation between students' overall English skills and their proficiency in SMCP through an initial test, followed by the evaluation of improvements in their scores and changes in exam duration during the mid-term and final exams. The initial test revealed a significant dif erence in Maritime English test scores among groups based on individual factors, such as TOEIC scores and self-assessment of English ability, and both the mid-term and final tests confirmed substantial score improvements for the group using the platform. This study confirmed the efficacy of a learning platform that could be extensively applied in maritime education and potentially expanded beyond the scope of Maritime English education in the future.
