According to international regulations, it is mandatory for navigators or engineers to acquire suitable skillsets before their designation as a duty officer on board. One of the most important elements is Maritime English (ME), wherein students are taught a required set of basic skills that enable them to process various documents related to accidents, ship conditions, and inspections. Students have to be equipped not only with the use of general English skills but also with the coherent use of technical terms and phrases. However, due to the unique circumstances that exist in the maritime domain, the methods used for imparting maritime knowledge and the manner in which it is evaluated are restricted. Hence, this study aims to utilize an online Maritime English learning and testing platform that can be accessed on smart devices to analyze its impact on the students' learning process. An experiment was conducted on two groups of cadets, one that used the platform and another group that did not. After six-week, the experiment results showed a significant difference between the ME test scores of the two groups. The test scores were further analyzed by incorporating the students' personal elements to measure the ef icacy of the ME test platform. Therefore, the learning and evaluation processes are expected to be implemented in ways that are appropriate and convenient to specific circumstances and be widely used in the field of maritime education in the future.

In order to attain the best-educated people in a rapidly changing, modern society with English is an official language, this study applies the problem-based learning (PBL) method to the English Science Class. PBL problems were developed for PBL classes, and their effectiveness has been proven. The focus of this study was five PBL questions posed during the first semester, targeting seven learners in the fourth grade of Elementary School A. The questions were divided into levels aimed at each grade, with the emphasis on specialized English education. Learners wrote journals, peer evaluations, and self-evaluations after finishing their PBL classes. Also, a survey about PBL was conducted after the first semester. The results of the study showed that learners experienced an 86% improvement in presentation skills, an 86% improved interest in learning, 86% better understanding, and 100% improvement in both problem-solving skills and cooperation. On the other hand, learners had difficulty in understanding PBL problems, and with research using the internet. PBL was somewhat unfamiliar to the students, but the survey found that learners are already aware of its effectiveness, and that they are interested in PBL.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the difference of learners' preference for animation movies in EFL English classes. In this study, four classes of 124 college students that participated in the English screen class employed an animation, Alice in Wonderland. This study examined the different activities of three categories of pre-study, while-study, and post-study. First, on the analysis of studying activities of 15 items, the results showed meaningful differences depending on the students' gender. That is, female students were more interested in mostly all of the activities, while male students' interests were skewed to some post-study activities. Second, comparing the differences of studying interest among the three groups, the low group is more concerned with the pre-study activities, while the higher group is generally interested in the while studying and post-study activities. Third, on the analysis of correlation between the three level groups and activities, the results indicated meaningful differences in some activities. In summary, based on the results of this research, it is necessary to consider the learners' variables and focus on the learners in the English screen class. Further, teachers should apply these results to the management of their screen class and to the development of teaching materials.

In the 21st century, we need to educate students who can perform their learning activity by themselves through free investigation and gathering information instead of providing a piece of knowledge to them directly. It is suggested that we should use Internet to bring up students who have the ability to study self-directedly. In this study, we designed a virtual English conversation class and implemented it using Web and DBMS to improve the students' self-directed learning ability who study English conversation in high school.

In the era of the 4th industrial revolution, enhancing achievement evaluation based on process oriented instruction is essential. It assists human growth both cognitively and mentally. The purpose of this study is to analyze current condition of high school achievement evaluation in Daejeon region for enhancing English class based on achievement Assessment. Analyzing high school achievement evaluation plans as well as analyzing items of paper and pencil test using TELL program was conducted. Reanalysis of global citizen theme-based English according to core achievement standard was performed. The questionnaire was analyzed using the SPSS Win 20.0 Program to figure out significant difference of instructional method, the rate of students' grade improvement, English class related to the state of career recognition. T-test, ANOVA was performed to determine if there was a difference between the individual instructional variables. The research result is designed to construct or develop English class based on achievement evaluation while providing each high school with the result of current state of high school achievement evaluation. Specific characteristics of individual achievement result was conducted in terms of analyzing distribution of answer sheet response in order to be used as information for managing each high school achievement evaluation.

This study investigated results of bilingual learning of mathematics in teaching quadratic functions at an international high school in South Korea. Unlike a Korean traditional public school, this international school has provided bilingual learning. 10th grade students enrolled two math classes, Algebra II that was taught in English through CCSS and High School Mathematics I that was taught in Korean through the Korean National Math Curriculum. In order to collect information on students' behaviors and math achievement, we analyzed students' academic back grounds, mathematical abilities, results of interviews, observations, questionnaires and assessments. The results of this study include specific benefits. Bilingual learning of mathematics is effective as a method to improve Korean students' mathematical abilities and attitudes as well as positive influence on Korean mathematics education.

The information and knowledge of modern society in the 2lst century is changing rapidly. Based on this social change, the ministry of education introduced STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Art Music) in 2011 to foster creative convergence talents. Therefore, this study is based on the PBL model that learners participate in the class voluntarily to develop appropriate talents in the 21st century. The combined subjects were English, which is the world's official language, and Science, which is found in almost all the fields with the development of the 4th industrial revolution. As a result, learners could define the problems and solutions during the English class and take part in the group activity actively to obtain the problems and solutions of environmental pollution during the Science class. Through this, learners answered that they had a great understanding of learning (86%), high motivation for learning (100%), improved self-confidence (100%), and improved collaboration and creativity (100%). Unfortunately, this study does not progress actively due to the entrance exams, which still require accurate answers rather than the necessity and effectiveness of convergence education. To foster talents suitable for the present age, more active research should be applied to a range of educational sites.

The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of the use of artificial intelligence chatbots on improving Korean college students' English grammar skills. 70 undergraduate students participated in the present study. They were taking a General English class offered by a university in Korea. There were two groups in this study. Participants in the chatbot group consisted of 36 students while those in the human group were 34. Over 16 weeks, the chatbot group engaged in ten chat sessions with a chatbot while the human group had a chat with a human chat partner. Both pre- and post-tests were performed to examine changes in the participants' grammar skills over time. To compare the improvement between the two groups, an independent t-test was then run. Main findings are as follows: First, participants in both groups significantly improved their English grammar skills, indicating the beneficial effects of engaging in chat. Also, there was a statistically significant difference in the improvement between the chatbot and human groups, indicating the superior effects of the chatbot use. This study confirmed the improved grammar skills by the participants in the chatbot group, comparison with those in the human group. Based on these findings, suggestions for the future chatbot study are discussed.

This study explores effects of two types of chatbots - voice-based and text-based - on Korean EFL learners' speaking competence and learner perception. Participants were 80 freshmen students taking an English-speaking class at a university in Korea. They were divided into two experimental groups at random. During the sixteen-week experimental period, participants engaged in 10 chat sessions with the two different types of chatbots. To take a close examination of effects on the improvement of speaking competence, they took the TOEIC speaking test as pre- and post-tests. Structured questionnaire-based surveys were conducted before and after treatment to determine if there are changes in perception. Findings reveal two chatbots effectively contribute to improvement of speaking competence among EFL learners. Particularly, the voice-based chatbot was as effective as the text-based chatbot. An analysis of survey results indicates perception of chatbot-assisted language learning changed positively over time. In particular, most participants preferred voice-based chatbot over text-based chatbot. This study provides insight on the use of chatbots in EFL learning, suggesting that EFL teachers should integrate chatbot technology in their classrooms.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the level of Media Information Literacy of international students in K-university, who attend the courses in which the classes are delivered only in English. A survey was carried out to find out the level of media information literacy. In order to verify the validity and reliability of the measurement result gathered from the responses, an item analysis was carried out with SPSS21.0, a statistics analysis software, and the diversity of utilizing media information literacy was also measured according to the factors of each analysand group. The analysis result gathered through ${\chi}^2-test$, a frequency analysis tool, shows that international students use domestic media information literacy mainly for daily life activities such as the internet shopping and the bank transaction.
