Purpose: This study is intended to identify difference postpartum depression according to delivery mode in the postpartum women. Methods: The subjects were 239 postpartum women in D and A city. Data collected from June 9, 2006 to August 6, 2007 using structured questionnaire surveys and convenience sampling. Measuring instrument was BDI (Beck Depression Inventory) translated By Lee and Song (1991). Collected data was analyzed by $x^2$-test, ANCOVA, Stepwise Multiple Regression with SPSS/PC 14.0. Results: There were significant differences in postpartum period ($x^2$=12.40, p = .002) and sleeping hours ($x^2$=9.09, p = .011) as analysed distribution of the subjects according to delivery mode. As result of analyzing the difference of postpartum depression according to delivery mode using ANCOVA, C-sec women's postpartum depression was higher than vaginal delivery women statistically (F=6.32, p = .013). As a result of Multiple Regression, income was a influencing factor of postpartum depression in vaginal delivery women and support of spouse and sleeping hours were influencing factors in C-sec women. Conclusion: There were differences in postpartum depression and their influencing factors according to delivery mode. Therefore it is necessary to develop and study a concrete nursing intervention and strategies for reducing the postpartum depression according to delivery mode.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of parental media use, parents' educational needs regarding media use, and parents' media guidance for children on the children's media use. Methods: The participants were 161 parents of elementary school children in the 1st and 4th grades. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires, and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 19.0 IBM program. Results: The average times for watching television and using the internet in the children were 11.44 hours and 5.89 hours per week, respectively. Children's time watching television was influenced by parents' time watching television, children's gender (girl), and parents' educational needs. Children's television dependency was influenced by parents' educational needs, parents' time watching television, and parents' age (under 36 years). Time using the internet and internet dependency in the children were influenced by parents' educational needs, family monthly income (under 3 million won), and parents' guidance for children on watching television. Conclusion: The findings indicate that elementary school children's media use is influenced by parental media use, parents' educational needs, and parents' media guidance for children. Therefore parental factors should be considered in developing approaches to provide education programs to prevent media overuse in children.
The subjects of this study were 210 fathers and mothers of 5-year-old preschoolers. Data were analyzed by correlation and regression. Results showed that "activity" was negatively related to children's self-control. Adaptability and rhythmics, however, were positively related to children's self-control in girl Mothers' imperative control was negatively but her position-oriented control and person-oriented control were positively related to the elf-control of boys. Mothers' position-oriented control and person-oriented control were positively related to the self-control of girls. but there were no significant relations found between mothers' imperative control and children's self-control Fathers' person-oriented control was related to the self-control of boys. Finally, both for boys and girls, "activity" was the most influential variable in children's self-control among the four sub-scales of temperament and parental modes of verbal control.
This study investigated the relationships between parental marital conflict, attachment to parents and peer relationships. The mediating role of attachment to parents was also explored in the relationship between parental marital conflict and peer relationships. Two hundred eighty four 8th graders participated in this study. The participants answered questionnaires regarding parental marital conflict, attachment to parents, qualify of their friendship, and attachment to peers. The main results of the study are as follows: First, adolescents who perceived a higher level of parental marital conflict reported less positive feelings and more negative feelings toward their friends. They also reported lower peer attachment, and tended to perceive their friendship functions negative. Second, adolescents who showed stronger attachment to their parents reported more positive feelings and less negative feelings toward their friends. They reported higher peer attachment, and perceived friendship functions positively. Third, adolescents who perceived a higher level of parental marital conflict showed weaker attachment to their parents. Finally, attachment to fathers and mothers mediated the association between parental marital conflict and peer relationships. In other words, parental marital conflict had an indirect effect on peer relationships. The results suggest that attachment to fathers and mothers that resulted from parental marital conflict played an important role in determining peer relationships among adolescents, rather than the existence of the parental marital conflict itself.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe quality of life in school age children and the relationship between quality of life and parenting attitude as perceived by children and parent-child communication pattern. Methods: Data were collected between May 26 and June 3, 2009 using self-report questionnaires from 148 pairs of children and their parents. The children were enrolled in 4th to 6th grades. The questionnaires included the Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI), Parent-Child Communication (PCC) Scale, and Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL). The data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 17.0 program. Results: The Quality of Life (QOL) score for the children was significantly higher among children reporting higher parental bonding attitude (mother r=.38, father r=.34) and parent-child communication (mother r=.43, father r=.36). Results of multiple regression showed that factors significantly associated with QOL were academic achievement, caregiver available after school, parent-child communication, school satisfaction, relationship with peers, and birth order among siblings. Conclusion: Positive relationships and good communication with parents and satisfaction with school life were important factors associated with quality of life in school age children.

Methods: This is the descriptive research to verify the effectiveness of simulation-based practice education for core skill of maternity nursing. Third year nursing students who have completed maternity nursing related theories and practice have been selected as population. Total of 202 surveys have been used for analysis. Data analysis is done by using SPSS/WIN 18.0. Results: Self-confidence of core skill in maternity nursing is experimental group 4.52 and control group 4.37 score (p<.05). Performance competence in childbirth care is experimental group 4.53 and control group 4.35 score (p<.05). The students who have maternity nursing related clinical practice and core skill practicum experience show high core skill evaluation score. Conclusion: Therefore, it is recommended that current maternity nursing core skill curriculum should be reviewed and improved, and the students should be provided variety of simulation techniques to gain essential knowledge and core nursing skills.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the awareness of child rearing among parents of children in early childhood and to provide fundamental data for parent education programs according to child rearing type. Methods: Q-methodology which provides a method of analyzing the subjectivity of each item was used. Forty Q items which were derived from a literature review and interviews with nurturing mothers were classified into a normal distribution using a 9-point scale. Collected data were analyzed using the QUANAL PC Program. Results: Four types of parents' child rearing were identified. Type I was named 'affection-respect type', type II, 'concern-rule compliant type', type III, 'solicitude-model type', and type IV, 'geniality-encouragement type'. Conclusion: For proper growth and development during early childhood, parents should have rational information and awareness of their child rearing type. Results of this study can be used as essential data to develop child rearing education programs according to parents' child rearing attitude.
The purpose of this study is to investigate if self-esteem mediates the effects of conflict with parents, peer relationship and school adaptation in relation to the satisfaction with life of adolescents in multicultural families. The subjects of the present study are 152 adolescents of multicultural families ranging from 12-16 years of age from the cities of Seoul, and Daegu, and the provinces of Gyeong-gi, and Gyeong-buk, South Korea. The measured constructs are Conflict with Parents, Friendship, School Adaption, Self- Esteem and Satisfaction with Life Scale. The dates were analyzed using path analysis. The major results of this study demonstrate that self-esteem does not mediate the effects of conflict with parents and peer relationship in relation to the satisfaction with life of adolescents in multicultural families. However, self-esteem does mediate the effects of school adaptation in relation to the satisfaction with life of adolescents in multicultural families.
Purpose: This study was done to investigate the cognition and needs for hospice care among.parentsofchildrenwith cancer. Methods: The participants were 73 parents of children with cancer. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires and analyzed using the SPSS/WIN Program. Results: Less than half of parents (49.3%) told the child about the disease. If the child could not be treated medically, 39.5% of the parents answered that they would have the child treated in a hospital until his/her last days, while 62.8% of the parents replied that it would be. appropriate for the child to get hospice care when all medical treatments for the child failed, or when the end of the child's life was near. Needs for hospice care for the parents were high, and the physical care of the child ranked as the most important. Conclusion: The above findings indicate that the parents were not cognitive enough about hospice care, but needed hospice care, especially as it is related to the physical care of the children. Therefore hospice care, based on cognition and needs of parents, should be provided for children and their families.

The purpose of this research is to develop and validate an instrument that can be used to measure critical aspects of a parent's attitude and behavior that influence child development and adaptation. This instrument is named Parenting Style Inventory and self-reporting assessment of parent for preschoolers. We reported findings from 578 preschooler's care-givers. Five factors were extracted from 55 items developed for preschooler version and finally 29 items were selected. Subscales were empathy, respect, parental authority, coerciveness, perfectionism. Internal consistency of these subscales were .77, .86, .70, .74, .68 relatively. Empathy, respect and authoritative scales were regarded as the basic dimensions of parent's behavior. For clinical validation, we divided the preschooler care-giver sample into 8 groups according to scores of the basic dimensions and compared the 8 groups with parenting stress and parenting self-efficacy scores. The results indicated that three basic factors would have different effects on parental experiences and satisfaction. We suggested the clinical implication and limitation of this instrument.
