Nutrient and Water Uptake of Cucumber Plant by Growth Stage in Closed Perlite Culture (순환식 펄라이트재배에서 생육단계에 따른 오이의 양수분 흡수 특성)

  • 순환식 펄라이트 재배에서 오이의 양액흡수는 일사량 변화와 관계없이 단위 일사량당 흡수량이 80-100mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$까지 증가 후 일정하게 유지되어 양액흡수 지표는 전체 양액흡수량보다 단위일사량당 양액흡수량이 더 적합하였다(Fig. 1). 오이의 엽장$\times$엽폭 수치와 실측 엽면적과의 관계는 Y=-16.87+0.987x+5E-5x$^2$의 회귀식을 구할 수 있었으며 $r^2$=0.89의 높은 정의 상관을 보였다. NO$_3$$^{-}$ -N의 흡수량은 초기에 3mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$에서 후기 16mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$로 상승하였고 Ca는 초기에 3mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$에서 후기에 14mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$로, Mg는 초기에 1mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$에서 후기에 5mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$로 증가되었으나, 정식 후 62일 이후의 증가세가 둔화되었다. K는 초기에 5.0mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$에서 후기 18mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$로 증가되었으나 지속적인 증가를 보여주지 못하였는데 이것은 오이의 하엽 제거로 인한 결과로 생각되어진다. 그러나 P는 초기에 0.5mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$에서 후기에 3.2mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$로 지속적으로 증가되었다. S는 초기에 0.5mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$에서 중기에 6.5mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$까지 증가되다가 후기에 2.7mgㆍMJ$^{-1}$로 감소되었다(Fig. 2). 오이의 각각의 무기이온 흡수량과 가장 상관이 높았던 요소는 정식일수와 엽면적이었으며 이 두 요소와 단위일사량당 양액흡수량과는 $r^2$=0.92, 0.97로 높은 상관을 보였다(Table 1). 단위일사량당 양액흡수량을 이용한 각각의 무기이온 흡수량 회귀식은 $r^2$=0.8 이상으로 높은 상관관계를 보여 실용적 이용이 가능할 것으로 보였다(Fig. 3).

Effect of Air Circulation in Greenhouse on Development of Fermented Fruits in Oriental Melon (시설내 공기순환이 참외 발효과 발생에 미치는 영향)

  • This experiment was conducted to investigate to investigate the effect of air circulation and forced ventilation of greenhouse on the development of fermented fruits in an oriental melon. An air circulation system and a forced ventilation system were operated during 09:30~17:00 at a 15 min. interval from Apr. 6, 5 days after fruit setting, to Jun. 29, everyday except rainy days. Wind velocities in the greenhouse were 0.06~0.08, 0.24~0.32, and 0.60~0.72m.s$^{-1}$ in the naturally ventilated (control), in the air circulated, and including leaf length and width, were observed between treatments. However, the amount of xylem exudate increased in the air circulated treatment as compared to the control. Percent of fermented fruits significantly decreased in the air circulated treatment as compared to the control. The forced ventilation treatment showed no significant difference in percent of fermented fruits as compared to the control or to the air circulated treatment.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of various types of mulching materials for cutflower cultivation in statice. The results obtained were as follows ; The soil temperature mulched by black polyethylene film or rice straw was lower as 3$^{\circ}C$ than that of soil mulched by transparent polyethylene film or non - mulching in plastic house. The weed yield occurrenced on the soil mulched by black polyethylene film was lower than that mulched by transparent polyethyl one film and rice straw or non-mulching. The growth characteristics, those are plant height, leaf length and leaf width were not different among the mulching materials but in flower quality and yield of first grade, black polyethylene film produced better than others.

  • It was conducted to investigate the effect of rice downy mildew (RDM) infection to plant growth and yield components in water seeding stage, and to screen of varietal resistance to downy mildew. Being infected by rice downy mildew, chlorotic spot appeared in the leaf and leaf length was shortened. As the infected rice was growing, internode was not elongated properly and was deformed, and then panicle was not arised or mal-formed. Plant height of infected rice was shortened at all growth stage, and while the number of tillers of infected rice was more decreased than that of healthy plant before maximum tillering stage, and that of infected rice was more increased after heading stage. While the number of internode of infected tiller was much increased than that of healthy tiller internode length of infected tiller was shorter. As the rice infected by RDM severely, the number of panicles per square meter and ripening of rice was more decreased and yield of rice was extremely much decreased. As result of the varietal resistance screening with rice seedling, Geyh-wabyeo and Donjinbyeo were resistant varieties to downy mildew.

Treatment Level of Neem Product for the Control of Bemisia tabaci in the Environmental Friendly Agriculture of Eggplant (가지 담배가루이 방제를 위한 Neem제 처리농도 설정)

  • This experiment was carried out to develop an environmental friendly agriculture material (EFAM) using neem extract i.e. azadirachtin (0.5%), especially against Bemisia tabaci (Gennadius) in eggplant. Neem product was found to be very effective against both nymph and adult of B. tabaci. Yield and economic value of eggplant treated with neem extract were higher than other EFAMs used. Effect of different concentration of Neem product was also investigated on population density of B. tabaci. The growth and yield of eggplants were highest in plants treated with 500 times concentrated solution of neem product. Economic analysis showed that the income increased by 13,545 thousand won/10a from the plots treated with 500 times concentrated solution of neem product over control. The results suggested that 500 times concentrated solution of EFAM (azadirachtin 0.5%) could be a good controlling agent of B. tabaci in eggplants.

  • Experiments were carried out to find the difference of resin canal numbers by tree age and topophysis of crown of black pine needles, and the results were summarized as follows. 1. The average numbers of resin canal by tree age were increased from the age of 5 years were not difference between 10 and thereafter years significantly. 2. In this observation, the range of resin canal number was 2 to 9. 3. The numbers by the topophysis of crown did not show significant differences but the individual trees showed significant variations in the canal number in younger trees.

  • The study was conducted to examine effective concentration and fertilization time of $CO_2$ for the growth of potted Phalaenopsis in growth chambers. Enrichment level of $CO_2$ was 1,000 or $2,000{\mu}mol{\cdot}mol^{-1}$ and fertilization time was 06:00~12:00, 00:00~06:00, or 18:00~24:00. Two, seven, or twelve month-old clonal micropropagules of Phalaenopsis cultivars were cultured for 99 days. Leaf number, leaf length, leaf width, root length and fresh weight of all Phalaenopsis cultivars in $2,000{\mu}mol{\cdot}mol^{-1}$ $CO_2$ were significantly greater than that of $1,000{\mu}mol{\cdot}mol^{-1}\;CO_2$. $CO_2$ fertilization time was the greatest growth in 0:00~06:00.

Effects of Drenching Treatment of Growth Retardants on Growth in Datura suaveolens 'Orange Star' (생장억제제 관주처리가 'Angel's Trumpet'의 생육에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to identity the effect of plant growth retardants such as paclobutrazol, ethephon, uniconazole and daminozide by drenching on growth of Datura suaveolens 'Orange Star'. Datura suaveolens 'Orange Star' treated with the growth retardants except ethephon was gradually shortened in proportion to the treated concentration of growth retardants. Especially, uniconazole treatment dramatically short ed stem height and width of plant, diminished leaf width and length and also shortened the days to flowering, and increased flowering times per year. On the contrary, ethephon treatment showed the opposite affect such as higher plant width and plant height, increased days to flowering, and decreased the number of flower times. Dwarfing by plant growth retardants in Datura suaveolens 'Orange Star' was effective in orders of uniconazole, daminozide and paclobutrazol.

Effect of Mulching Materials on Growth and Agronomic Characteristics of Angelica gigas NAKA in Southern Area (남부 지방에서 피복 재료가 참당귀(Angelica gigas NAKAI)의 생육과 주요 형질에 미치는 영향)

  • In an effort to produce high quality Angelica gigas NAKAI in the southern area of Korea, a variety of mulching materials were used to prevent withering during the summer. The experimental results are summarized as follows. Soil water content and temperature under various mulching materials were higher than those without mulching, in all the cases studied. Among various mulching materials P. E.(polyethylene) mulching material showed the highest effect. The appearance of weeds was the lowest when using the black P. E. mulching, while growth of weeds was the greatest when using transparent mulching. Growth and development of the plant were better with P. E. mulching than straw mulching or no mulching, allowed for more and bigger leaves. The bolting rate was about 2∼5%, with a slightly larger value under P. E. mulching. Under P. E. mulching, probably due to good physical properties of the soil the number of roots was large, and the length and diameter were good. Active growth of roots under P. E. mulching resulted in a yield increase of the plant. The black P. E. mulching material showed a prominent effect on suppression of weed growth, and the black P. E. material was considered to be the most recommendable among various P. E. mulching materials when there is a lack of labor.

A New Self-Incompatible Interspecific Hybrid Pasqueflower Variety, 'Yeonhong' (자가불화합성 종간교잡종 할미꽃 신품종 '연홍')

  • A new hybrid variety of pasqueflower, 'Yeonhong', was derived from an interspecific cross between Pulsatilla davurica and P. koreana at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extension Services (JARES) in Naju, Korea. The original cross was performed in 2001, and the 'Yeonhong' hybrid was established in 2003 after two years of selective breeding. 'Yeonhong' is characterized by deep pink flowers and is self-incompatible. The inherent characteristics of the variety are deep yellow anthers, a deep pink stigma, six petals, and green leaf color. 'Yeonhong' blooms twice a year. The agronomic characteristics of the variety are 26.5 flowers per plant, 58.6 cm in flower height, 46.8 cm in cut flower length, 11.5 cm in bract width, and 34.4 cm in leaf length. Flower characteristics include 8.4 days of longevity for cut flowers and 34 days of longevity for bracts. The new variety is suitable for use as a cut flower.
