  • Steel reinforcement buried in concrete structure in submerged zone does not easily become corroded due to lack of dissolved oxygen. For that reason, accelerated corrosion test in submerged state is performed with an electrochemical method, which is not suitable for actual corrosion mechanism and makes it difficult to find relevance with long-term behavior. In this study, accelerated corrosion test was performed with the temperature and chloride concentration as main variables in order to establish a method for accelerated corrosion test in submerged zone. Corrosion was determined by the result of reinforcement corrosion monitoring based on galvanic potential measurement and half-cell potential method. The accelerated corrosion test result showed that temperature had the most dominant influence. To determine the chloride content, chloride concentration by depth in the test sample was measured. With the same conditions, chloride penetration interpretation was performed by DuCOM, a FEM durability interpretation program. Also, a test was performed to measure dissolved oxygen according to soaking conditions of artificial seawater, which was used for verifying the validity of the accelerated corrosion test result.

  • Cyclic wet and dry conditions in the marine environment structures corrosion is known to be the fastest rising. For that reason, accelerated corrosion test methods for the reproduction of tidal environment has been actively conducted. However, many studies have estimated threshold value for steel corrosion or concentrated in chloride penetration analysis. In this study, cyclic wet and dry conditions to reproduce the structure of the environment in accelerated corrosion and chloride penetration test analysis was performed. Corrosion was determined by the result of reinforcement corrosion monitoring based on galvanic potential measurement and half-cell potential method. Accelerated corrosion test results for each formulation was different corrosion periods, the order OPC> FA> BS> High-strength concrete. FEM durability interpretation program DuCOM was conducted under the same conditions as in accelerated corrosion test. The experimental RCPT tests demonstrated the validity of the result.

  • The present study concerns the resistance of calcium aluminate cement (CAC) to steel corrosion. The corrosion behavior of steel, chloride binding/buffering and chloride transport were evaluated in order to predict the risk of steel corrosion. The CAC mortar exhibited no corrosion on steel, irrespective of the curing temperature and CAC types, whereas ordinary Portland cement (OPC) showed a severe corrosion on the steel surface. The chloride binding capacity of CAC found to be was lower than that of OPC, yet buffering capacity against pH decrease was found to be significantly higher in the CAC paste. Furthermore, chloride ingress at all depths was found to be reduced in CAC, thereby reducing the risk of corrosion.

  • Corrosion of reinforcement is the main cause of damage and early failure of reinforced concrete structures. The corrosion is mainly progressed by the chloride ingress. In this paper, an experimental study is executed to investigate the effect of concrete properties and testing methods on the coefficients of chloride diffusion. Also, it is surveyed the relationship between total chloride and free chloride in concrete. According to this experiment results, W/C ratio and testing method affect chloride diffusion coefficient of concrete. As W/C ratio is increased, diffusion coefficient in concrete is also increased. Diffusion coefficient obtained by each testing method show the different values, respectively. The model equation of diffusion coefficient with W/C ratio is proposed.

  • In this study the prediction model of Chloride Ion progress rate of concrete using steel powder as an addition is developed, in which the reduction of not only the diffusion rate of $Cl^-$ but also the corrosion rate by replenishment of pore by corrosion products. The model is based on the diffusions of $Cl^-$ and its reaction with $Fe^{2+}$, in chloride attack progression region. The model can also explain the characteristics of chloride ion permeation resistance of concrete that the matrix is densified due to corrosion products. The prediction by the model agreed well the experimental data in which the concrete using steel powder, and it showed the lower rate in long-term age to Chloride Ion progress rate than the concrete without steel powder. Consequently the model can predict Chloride Ion progress rate of concrete exposed in the atmosphere regardless of the water-to-cement raito, the amount of the content of steel powder, etc.

  • Deicer has been generally used for prevention of a road freezing in winter, and the usage amount is increasing every year. However, deicer may induce the decrease of bond strength, surface scaling, and environmental pollution. In this study, the field test was performed to investigate the deterioration of concrete road structures used for 17 years. And, the corrosion resistance characteristics were compared for the existing deicer and eco-friendly deicer. According to the field test results, the penetration depth of limit chloride amount was about 40mm, and the average concentration of chloride was $3.45kg/m^3$ at the surface of structures. On the contrary, the carbonation depth was slight. The penetration depth of eco-friendly deicer was less than the existing deicer, and the corrosion resistance of eco-friendly deicer was higher.

  • In this study, the corrosion density of tendon was evaluated with changing chloride and hydroxide ions. To simulate an accelerated corrosive environment, wet sand was used instead of concrete, and the tests were conducted considering three levels of chloride concentration (0.0, 0.125, and 0.250mol/l ) and three [Cl-]/[OH-] ratios (0.3, 0.6, and 0.9). The corrosion density was measured to 5.13 µA/cm2 at 0.0mol/l and increased with the chloride concentration. Additionally, no significant differences were observed over 0.125mol/l of chloride concentration. When [OH-] increased with a given chloride concentration (0.125mol/l), the corrosion density decreased linearly, showing effective control of corrosion density even at high chloride concentrations. Notably, the measured corrosion amounts were lower than those under of 0.0mol/l condition. Furthermore corrosion density and influencing parameters were normalized with the maximum and minimum results, and the relation between them was analyzed.

  • Corrosion of steel embedded in concrete is one of the foremost factors that affect the durability of concrete structures in marine environments. This paper presents an application technique of anode-ladder-system to evaluate corrosion behaviours of marine concrete structure. In order to investigate the behaviours quantitatively, the measurement of potential and current was performed on the concrete elements subjected to the penetration and diffusion of chloride ions. The main variable was the heights from seawater level; namely 3.7, 6.0 and 8.2 m. As a result of the monitoring, it was found that the corrosion characteristics differently behaved with the increasing height. Additionally, through migration test, the relationship between compressive strength of concrete and diffusivity of chloride ions was observed. It is suggested, ultimately, that in order to reduce or mitigate steel corrosion, both appropriate concrete cover depth and high-quality of concrete in early ages should be done.

  • Domestic area of most be happened chloride deicer damage. Because daily mean temperature is below 0$^{\circ}C$ from the area of domestic most. Use of deicing chemicals has been and will continue to be a major part of highway snow and ice control methods. Chloride-containing chemicals such as calcium chloride or rock salt are main deicers for the road. Extensive use of chloride deicers is, however, not only the source of substantial cost penalties due to their corrosive action and ability to deterioration roadway surface materials but also the source of environmental damages. Particularly, it has been recognized that chlorides present in deicing agents can significantly increase concrete surface scaling. In severe cases, scaling can result in dislodgement of coarse aggregate. This research estimates that pH and test of specific pollutants, dynamic modulus of elasticity for freeze-thaw test of concrete were higher than those NaCl, $CaCl_2$, and NaCl+$CaCl_2$(7:3, w/w), also weight losses for scaling test of concrete were much lower than those of NaCl, $CaCl_2$, and NaCl+$CaCl_2$(7:3, w/w).
