It is known that buried rebars inside concrete structures are protected from corrosion due to passive layer. It is very important to delay the timing of corrosion or evaluate a detection of corrosion initiation for the purpose of cost-beneficiary service life of a structure. In this study, corrosion monitoring was performed on concrete specimens considering 3 levels of cover depth(60 mm, 45 mm, and 30 mm), W/C(water to cement) ratio(40.0%, 50.0%, and 60.0%) and chloride concentration(0.0%, 3.5%, and 7.0%). OCP(Open Circuit Potential) was measured using agar-based socket type sensors. The OCP measurement showed the consistent behavior where the potential was reduced in wet conditions and it was partially recovered in dry conditions. In the case of 30 mm of cover depth for most W/C ratio cases, the lowest OCP value was measured and rapid OCP recovery was evaluated in increasing cover depth from 30 mm to 45 mm, since cover depth was an effective protection against chloride ion ingress. As the chloride concentration increased, the effect on the cover depth tended to be more dominant than the that of W/C ratio. After additional monitoring and physical evaluation of chloride concentration after specimen dismantling, the proposed system can be improved with increasing reliability of the corrosion monitoring.
The kinetics of 2-anthracenesulfonyl chloride in methanol-water, ethanol-water, acetone-water and acetonitrile-water has been studied by electroconductometric method. For media in which water has the same mole fraction, the rate was greater in protic solvent than in dipolar aprotic solvent and it was greater consistently in methanol-water than in ethanol-water over the whole range of solvent composition investigated, while the two rates in acetone-water and acetonitrile-water inverted at about 0.9 of mole fraction of water. Both m value, susceptibility of rate to the ionizing power and n value, solvent participation number in the transition state were much smaller in protic solvent. These values and the activation parameters show that solvolysis of 2-anthracenesulfonyl chloride proceeds by $ S_N2$ mechanism.

This study uses the recovered water as mixing water and artificial lightweight aggregate pre-wetting water as part of a study to increase the recycling rate and reduce greenhouse gas of the ready-mixed concrete recovered during the concrete transport process, and cement fine powder of blast furnace slag(BFS) and fly ash(FA). The engineering characteristics of the three-component lightweight aggregate mortar used as a substitute were reviewed. For this purpose, the flow, dry unit mass, compressive strength, drying shrinkage, neutralization depth, and chloride ion penetration resistance of the three-component lightweight aggregate mortar were measured. When used together with the formulation, when 15 % of BFS and 5 % of FA were used, it was found to be positive in improving the compressive strength and durability of the mortar.

The corrosion potential in concrete varies greatly with exposure and concrete mix conditions. In this study, RC (Reinforcement Concrete) samples were prepared considering cover depth, chloride concentration, and W/C(water to cement) ratio as variables, and HCP(Half Cell Potential) was measured, which evaluated comparative potential between embedded steel and concrete surface. In addition, OCP(Open Circuit Potential) was measured using buried steel and CE(Counter Electrode). Agar and NaOH solution were used as ion exchange materials and Hg/HgO was used for RE(Reference Electrode), which was more sensitive to temperature than HCP. Among the influencing factors, the exposure period and chloride concentration had a relatively greater effect than cover depth and w/c ratio. Additionally, the entire measured HCP and OCP showed a clearly linear relationship with increasing cover depth and w/c ratio. Through multiple regression analysis, the relationship between HCP and OCP was quantified, and an improved correlation was obtained with temperature effect.
Bacteria with ability for iron reduction in the soil can use corrosion products of iron remains as energy source. The activities of this bacteria cause the change of corrosion products. As a result, it can be difficult to identify corrosion products promoting corrosion of iron remains. The purpose of this study, is to investigate the change in corrosion products that bacteria causes and to improve understanding about the corrosion of iron remains. To simulate corroded condition of excavated iron remains, carbon steel corroded by solution of NaCl and $Na_2SO_4$ was prepared. Then the prepared carbon steel was immersed in a liquid medium with bacteria. The incubation period was 42days. After experiment, the carbon steel was analyzed by SEM-EDS, X-ray diffraction method. The result is that the carbon was changed to green because of activity of bacteria and that the plate crystal and lozenge crystal were generated on the corrosion specimen. Also, we confirmed that the activities of bacteria differenciated colors and forms of corrosion products.

Up to now, the RC structures have been recognized as being socially semi-permanent. But in recent years there were reports about the cases of early deterioration of RC structures. Most of all pore structure effects on the durability of concrete as well as mechanical properties of concrete. Therefore, in this study, mixing design was proportioned with the water-binder ratio 0.55 binder compositions corresponding to cement without any supplementary materials(OPC), cement with 50% blast-furnace slag replacement (BFS50), cement with 15% fly ash replacement (FA15), and ternary cement with cement, 15% fly ash, and 35% slag replacement (BFS35+FA15). And this study is to compare pore structure property of concrete by carbonation to investigate the effect of the permeation of deterioration factors such as $CO_2$ and chloride ion under the combined deterioration environments. The results showed that pore volume effects on the diffusibility of chloride ion.

To predict the service life of reinforced concrete structures exposed to chloride environment, quantitative measures of material properties such as the critical chloride content for corrosion in concrete and the diffusion coefficient of chloride ions of concrete and the surface chloride content of the concrete are essential. However, it should be noted that they are influenced by several factors such as concrete mix proportions, cement type, and environmental conditions, etc. Thus, the purpose of this research is to estimate more actually the critical chloride content for corrosion of the reinforcing steel in concrete by field exposure experiment. For this purpose, the prism concrete test specimens were made for water-cement(W/C) ratios of 31%, 42%, 50%, and 70%, and then the field exposure experiment for them were conducted at Youngduk of the east coast for about 3 years. During the test, corrosion monitoring by half cell potential method was carried out to detect the time to initiation of corrosion for test specimens and its chloride content was evaluated by breaking the concrete test specimens when corrosion of the reinforcing steel in concrete was perceived. It was observed from the test results that the critical chloride content for corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete would be dependent on W/C ratio and almost irrespective of concrete cover.

Response mechanism for the chloride-selective membrane doped with 5, 10, 15, 20-tetraphenyl(porphyrinato)manganase(III) chloride(Mn(TPP)Cl) in PVC/DOS matrix is proposed by examining the visible spectra of the corresponding optode membrane. The visible spectra of Mn(TPP)Cl-doped membrane placed in aqueous solution show that the chloride ligand is easily replaced with water molecule. When other halogen ions, such as $F^-$, $Br^-$ and $I^-$, are added to the sample solution, they replace the water ligand, exhibiting distinctive change in the Soret band of Mn(TPP). On the other hand, bulky anions, such as SCN and salicylate, do not form a bond with the central metal. These results suggests that the potentiometric response of Mn(TPP)-based membrane results either from the ligand exchange (water with halides) at the central metal or from the counter ion exchange (chlorides with bulky lipophilic anions) around the positively charged porphyrin molecule in membrane phase. It was also noted that both hydration enthalpies of anions and their binding constants to Mn(TPP) play critical role in determining the potentiometric selectivity pattern of the membrane.

The purpose of this study is to estimate Chloride Attack Resistibility and mechanical properties of quaternary concrete adding fly ash, blast-furnace slag, and silica fume. Compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, chloride migration coefficient, charge passed from Rapid chloride penetration test(RCPT), and immersion testing in 3% NaCl are tested. Chloride migration coefficient and charge passed of quaternary concrete measured $0.032{\times}10^{-12}m^2/sec$ and 650 coulomb at 17 weeks, which are in a permitted limit. Also in immersion test, depth of chloride penetration and maximum chloride ion of quaternary concrete measured 3.7 mm and $10.211kg/m^3$ respectively. From the results, quaternary concrete adding fly ash, blast-furnace slag, and silica fume denotes improvement of mechanical properties and chloride attack resistibility.
