One dimensional diffusion of NaCl in flooded soil systems (담수(湛水) 토양계(土壤系)에서 염분(鹽分)의 일차원적(一次元的) 확산(擴散))

  • 1. Under an asumption that Ficks diffusion equation could be applicable in soil systems, the diffusivities of NaCl in several flooded soil systems were measured to range from $0.4{\times}10^{-5}cm^2sec^{-1}$ to $0.83{\times}10^{-5}cm^2sec^{-1}$ 2. It was discussed that, when a polder soil with a uniform initial salt content through the profile is desalinated only by diffusion to flooding water, the salt content in profile is a function of soil depth, diffusion time, and diffusivity as following $$C=C^{\circ}erf\frac{x}{\sqrt[2]{Dt}}$$ 3. On the basis of Kirkham, et al's integration of complementary erra function, the speed of desalting was discussed to be inversely proportional to the square root of time as following $$dq/dt=C^{\circ}{\sqrt{D/{\pi}t}}$$ 4. It was estimated enough to exchange the flooding water once or twice, even when desalination of polder soil is carried out only by diffusion, if the desalination begins in June, the used flooding water is fresh water, and flooding depth is 10cm. 5. Desalination of polder soil by diffusion requires 2 month for good standing of planted rice.

Characteristics of Wheat Flour Dough and Noodles with Amylopectin Content and Hydrocolloids (아밀로펙틴 함량 변화와 하이드로콜로이드 첨가에 의한 밀가루 반죽 및 국수의 특성)

  • The effects of amylopectin and hydrocolloid (locust bean gum and guar gum) content on wheat flour dough and noodle properties were investigated. As the amount of amylopectin increased, the water absorption rate (farinograph), the tension (tension test), the gel stability (freeze-thawing treatment), and the springiness and the cohesiveness (TPA) increased, but the pasting temperature (RVA), the lightness and yellowness (color measurement), and the hardness (TPA) tended to decrease. In sensory evaluations, the scores for cohesiveness, springiness, and acceptability of cooked noodle increased as the proportion of amylopectin increased. The proper combination of amylose/amylopectin ratio and hydrocolloids improved the freeze-thaw stability and the sensory acceptability of wheat flour dough and noodle.

Effects of the Supplementation of Fermented Food Wastes on the Performances of Pigs (발효 남은 음식물의 급여가 비육돈의 생산성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to assess the nutritional value and the safety of the fermented food wastes (FFW) made by adding lactobacillus spp. and bacillus spp. at the ratio of 3:7, respectively to food wastes collected everywhere, and also to determine effects on the performances, carcass characteristics and economical profitability when FFW was fed to pigs. For swine trial, FFW was formulate to pellet by utilizing different feed ingredients, and its formulated FFW pellet was used in this feeding trial. Treatments were consisted of different ratios (T1: $100+0\%$, T2: $75+25\%$, T3: $50+50\%$, T4: $25+75\%$, T5: $0+100\%$) of FFW pellet to commercial diet. A total of 20 male pigs were allotted to treatments of five groups of four pigs per pen. Experimental period lasted for 4 months. The nutritional composition of FFW was 56.7, 19.5 and $19.5\%$ for moisture, crude protein and ether extract, respectively. Salt content was $0.39\%$. Noxious microorganisms such as salmonella and E. coli were not detected in FFW, and contents of heavy metal and aflatoxin B1 were lower than the standard. Nutritional values of FFW pellet satisfied over $100\%$ of requirements presented in official Korean feeding standard for swine. Feeding trial for pigs showed that feed intakes were significantly (P<0.05) decreased with increasing levels of FFW pellet. T2 treatment was ideal ratio under the consideration of economical value of feeds and body weight gain of pigs. For carcass characteristics, dressing rate ($\%$) was highest in T3, and carcass grades for T2, T3 and T4 treatments were estimated as 'A'. Feed cost for FFW per kg was ${\won}167.95$, which implies $52\%$ of commercial feed cost (${\won}350/kg$). Thus, this result implied the decreased feed cost in the swine farm. Conclusively, the utilization of food wastes as feed source may lead to the reduced environmental pollution and the practice of organic livestock farming. However, our results showed that excessive amount of fermented food wastes supplementation to pigs might give rise to their reduced palatability and delayed growth.

  • 본 연구는 전복의 유생사육을 목적으로 먹이생물인 부착미세조류의 파판 배양시 배양기간에 따른 종조성과 영양성분의 변화를 파악하기 위하여 수행되었다. 실험은 완도지역에서 봄철인 2~4월에 8주 동안 실시되었다. 배양을 위한 기초 조사로 배양지역 연안해수의 수온, 염분, pH, 총질소, 총인, Chlorophyll-a를 측정 하였다. 실험에 사용된 파판은 전복 종묘생산에 이용되는 규조배양용 파판과 틀을 이용하여 2주마다 파판을 수거한 뒤 부착된 미세조류를 부드러운 솔로 분리하여 원심분리한 후 지방산과 아미노산을 측정하였다. 각각의 시료는 광학현미경(Nikon)으로 동정한 후 Sedwick-rafter counting chamber를 이용하여 종별로 계수하고 이를 단위면적당 개체수 (cells/$\textrm{cm}^2$)로 환산하여 정량분석을 하였다. 실험 결과 봄철 완도지역의 평균 수온과 염분은 각각 15.4$^{\circ}C$와 33.88$\textperthousand$이었고 pH는 8.21이었다. 총질소와 총인은 각각 0.078mg/$\ell$, 0.018mg/$\ell$였고 chlorophyll-$\alpha$는 1.47$\mu$g/$\ell$ 였다. 부착미세조류의 아미노산 분석 결과는 배양 2주째의 총아미노산 양이 5.63%로 가장 낮았고, 4주는 6.50%, 6주 7.82% 8주 7.87%로, 6주까지 증가하다가 정체하는 경향을 보였다. 필수아미노산의 경우 총아미노산의 경향과 비슷하였고 2, 4, 6, 8주째의 양은 각각 2.75%, 3.16%, 4.01%, 3.96%였다. 필수 아미노산과 비필수아미노산의 비는 2, 4, 6, 8주 각각 0.95, .095, 1.05, 1.01의 결과를 보였다. 지방산의 경우 palmitic acid( $C_{16:0}$)와 palmitoleic acid( $C_{16:1}$)가 43.10~67.66%의 함량을 보였으나 4주째에는 검출되지 않았으며 EPA는 6주에서 10.97%를 보였고 나머지 구간에서는 검출되지 않았다. 부착미세조류의 biomass는 기간별로 2.4$\times$$10^3$ cells/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 7.8$\times$$10^3$ cells/$\textrm{cm}^2$ 25.1$\times$$10^3$ cells/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 44.3$\times$$10^3$ cells/$\textrm{cm}^2$ 이었다. 출현량은 총 64종으로 대부분이 부착규조류였으며 2주, 4주, 6주, 8주 각각 43종, 25종, 19종, 24종의 부착 규조류가 출현하였다. 그리고 우점종은 2주째 Nitzschia petitiana, Fragilia psedonana, 4주 Navicula mollis, Flagilia cylindrus, 6주 Flagilia capucaina, Achnanthes haukiana, 8주 Flagilia islandica, Flagilia cylindrus였다.s였다.

Wastepaper as a Bulking Agent for Butchery Wastes Composting (도축 폐기물의 퇴비화에 있어서 수분조절제로서 폐휴지 이용)

  • Changes of chemical and physical properties of the butchery waste compost were assessed when the wastepaper was used as a bulking agent (BP). Temperature of compost, with frequent turnover, was increased up to $83^{\circ}C$ even during the winter. Canon exchange capacity of the compost was increased with composting time, but pH, water content, total carbon, total nitrogen, C/N ratio and salt concentration were decreased to the extents showing a convergency. Heavy metal contents of BP-192 were lower than the standard criteria. Germination rate of cucumber seed, when BP-34 and BP-96 composts were applied more than 15 g, was under 40%, but those of BP-143 and BP-192 were 100%, irrespective of the amounts of compost used. The C/N ratio of the matured compost was 8.6. Results indicated that wastepaper might be employed as a bulking agent for butchery wastes composting.

  • Two different sizes of olive founder were abruptly (within 30 min) exposed to hyposalinities from 35 to 0 $\textperthousand$ and to 15 $\textperthousand$ in a flow through seawater culture systems with 8 tanks (300 l/tank). Analysis of blood samples showed the following significant increase at 0 $\textperthousand$ S: hematocrit from 16.1 to 23.4% after 3 hr exposure and to 24.6% after 24 hours; plasma cortisol from 1.6 to 22.8 and 9.5 ng/$ml$ at 1 and 24 hi after exposure. At this salinity, survival decreased to 92 and 20 % after 72 and 144 hours of exposure, respectively. Levels of glucose, $Na^{+}and Cl$^{-}$, total protein and AST showed that the fish was under considerable stress. However, the fish showed no significant stress on exposure to 15 $\textperthousand$S.

  • 환경부 하수재이용사업은 2007년도 하수도법 개정을 통해 공공하수처리시설 처리수의 재이용 의무화를 시작으로 2010년도 "물의 재이용 촉진 및 지원에 관한 법률"의 시행으로 전국적으로 사업이 확대되고 있다. 제주도 월정하수처리장은 2009년도 하수재이용사업지구로 선정이 되어 2010년도부터 농업용목적의 재이용으로 구체적인 설계와 시공이 추진되고 있는 사업지구이다. 제주도에서는 지하수보존을 위해 대체수자원 개발 방안을 시급히 마련중에 있다. 특히, 제주도 농업용수 종합계획수립(제주도, 2004)에는 하수처리수를 농업용수로 이용하기 위한 계획을 수립할 정도로 지하수 사용량을 줄이기 위한 노력을 진행중에 있으며, 그 일환으로 하수재이용사업을 지속적으로 추진하고 있다. 하수처리수의 농업용수 재이용은 사용된 물을 재이용함으로써 물과 에너지를 절약할 수 있고, 유역 또는 해양으로 배출되는 오염원을 억제하는 장점이 있는 반면에 농산물 생육에 직접 영향을 줄뿐만 아니라 주변의 수질 생태 토양 환경 및 영농인의 보건에도 영향을 주기 때문에 장기적인 관찰과 검증작업이 필요하다. 이 에 서울대와 한국농어촌공사는 안전한 농업용수 재이용기술을 개발하기 위해 장기간 현장시험을 통해 재이용 재배기술과 함께 보건환경에 미치는 영향을 검증하였고 그 개발기술을 월정사업지구에 적용하게 되었다. 월정하수처리장이 위치한 제주 동부의 월정지역은 농지면적이 밭(374ha)과 과수(12ha)등 제주도의 전형적인 농촌마을으로 주요 재배작물은 마늘과 당근, 쪽파, 콩 등으로서 농업기반시설의 미비로 영농에 어려움을 호소하고 있으며, 2006년도에 발생한 가뭄으로 그 해 평균 수학량의 30%가 감소된 바 있는 지역이다. 제주도 농업용수 종합계획수립(2004, 제주도)에서는 10년에 한발을 기준 으로 $43,000m^3$/일의 용수가 부족할 것으로 분석하였으며 최근 $35,000m^3$/day 규모의 상수도 확보사업 계획 수립하였으나 여전히 농업용수가 부족하다. 방류수의 수질은 방류수수질기준을 만족하지만 염분함량이 높아 직접 농업용으로 사용하기에는 적당하기 않고, 농업용재이용방류수 수질기준에 맞도록 재이용시스템을 통해 재처리하여 농업용수로 사용해야 한다. 제주도에서는 이미 제주 서부하수처리장 농업용수 재이용사업(이하 판포재이용사업)'이 완료되어 재이용수를 농업용수로 공급하고 있으며 향후 지속적으로 하수재이용사업이 확대될 것으로 판단된다.

Studies on the Frost Heave Revelation and Deformation Behaviour due to Thawing of Weathered Granite Soils (화강암 풍화토의 동상 발현 및 융해에 따른 변형 거동에 관한 연구)

  • Natural ground is a composite consisted of the three phases of water, air and soil paircies. Among the three components, water as a material is weU understood but soil particles are not in foundation engineering. Especially, weathered granite soil generally shows a large volumetric expansion when they freeze. And, the stability and durability of the soil have shown decreased with repetitive freezing and thawing processes. These unique charcteristics may cause various construction and management problems if the soil is used as a construction material and foundation layers. This project was initiated to investigate the soil's physical and engineering characteristics resulting from freezing and freezing-thawing processes. Research results may be used as a basic data in solving various problems related to the soil's unique characteristics. The following conclusions were obtained: The degree of decomposition of weathered granite soil in Kangwon-do was very different between the West and East sides of the divide of the Dae-Kwan Ryung. Soil particles distributed wide from very coarse to fine particles. Consistency could be predicted with a function of P200 as LL=0.8 P200+20. Permeability ranged from 10-2 to 10-4cm/sec, moisture content from 15 to 20% and maximum dry density from 1.55 to 1.73 g /cmΥ$^3$ By compaction, soil particles easily crushed, D50 of soil particles decreased and specific surface significantly increased. Shear characteristics varied wide depending on the disturbance of soil. Strain characteristics influenced the soil's dynamic behviour. Elastic failure mode was observed if strain was less than 1O-4/s and plastic failure mode was observed if strain was more than 10-2/s. The elastic wave velocity in the soil rapidly increased if dry density became larger than 1.5 g /cm$^3$ and these values were Vp=250, Vg= 150, respectively. Frost heave ratio was the highest around 0 $^{\circ}C$ and the maximum frost heave pressure was observed when deformation ratio was less than 10% which was the stability state of soil freezing. The state had no relation with frost depth. Over freezing process was observed when drainage or suction freezing process was undergone. Drainage freezing process was observed if freezing velocity was high under confined pressure and suction frost process was occurred if the velocity was low under the same confined process.

The Effects of Fermented Anchovy on the Bromobenzene-Induced Hepatic Lipid Peroxidation in vitro (시험관내에서 멸치액젓이 Bromobenzene유발 간조직 지질과산화에 미치는 효과)

  • Fermented anchovy was used to investigate its effects on the formation of lipid peroxide and the activities of epoxide or free radical generating enzyme in vitro in bromobenzene-treated rats. All solvent fractions from fermented anchovy not only showed the strong antioxidative activities on linoleic acid autooxidation, but also reduced bromobenzene-induced hepatic lipid peroxidation. The activities of aniline hydroxylase and aminopyrine N-demethylase elevated by bromobenzene were recovered to the level of normal rats by adding the solvent fractions of fermented anchovy. But, xanthine oxidase and aldehyde oxidase activities were not affected by fermented anchovy. These results suggest that reduction of the bromobenzene-induced hepatic lipid peroxidation is caused by inhibition on the epoxide formation, not on free radical generation.

Production of Methane from Anaerobic Fermentation of Marine Macro-algae (해조류의 혐기성 발효를 이용한 메탄 생산)

  • Methane was produced from the anaerobic digestion of marine macro-algae. Elemental analysis was first performed to estimate the theoretical methane production of three macro-algae (Undaria pinnatifida, Laminaria japonica, Hizikia fusiformis). Three algae were found to contain C 34 ~ 36%, H 5%, O 37 ~ 43%, N 2 ~ 4%, S 0.4 ~ 0.7%, and ash 14~21%, and the theoretical methane content was in the range of 56 ~ 60%, which can produce 442 ~ 568 mL $CH_4$ per g of volatile solid (VS). Using the biological methane potential (BMP) test, we found that L. japonica resulted in the highest yield of methane (52%). Moreover, various operational conditions, such as algae amount, pH, salinity, particle size, and pre-treatment, were investigated in order to find an optimal condition of anaerobic digestion. At pH 8.0, the autoclaved L. japonica (5g VS/200 mL), when used without washing salt, produced 268.5 mL/g VS which is 65% of the theoretical methane productions. Furthermore, using a CSTR (with the working volume of 7 L out of the total volume of 10 L), we have successfully operated the reactor for 65 days and obtained maximum methane production rate of 1.4 L/day with purity of 70%.
