Effect of Salinity Concentration on Aerobic Composting of Food Waste (염분함량이 음식물쓰레기의 호기성 퇴비화에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to estimate the degradation rate and process efficiency of the composting according to the salinity concentration. The samples of food waste for this study were collected in Pocheon-Gun, Kyungki-Do. The collected samples were adjusted to the optimum range of moisture content, pH and C/N ratio. After that, adding the saline, the samples with 3 different salinity concentrations(1%, 5% and 10%) were made. Then each sample was fed into the reactor with temperature controller. During the aerobic composting process, the change of the physical and chemical properties of the sample as temperature, pH, C/N ratio and $CO_2$ and $O_2$ concentration in the reactor were measured. From the experiment of this study, the result are following. The highest temperatures are $59^{\circ}C$ at RUN 1(1% salinity conc.), $49^{\circ}C$ at RUN 2(5% salinity conc.) and $45^{\circ}C$ at RUN 3(10% salinity conc.). The change of $CO_2$ production and $O_2$ consumption have the positive correlation with the change of the temperature. $CO_2$ production and $O_2$ consumption are peaked at the low salinity concentration. During composting, Run 1, RUN 2 and RUN 3 are increased pH to 8.9, 8.6 and 7.2 and slowly decreased C/N ratio to 18.9, 19.1 and 22.1 and moisture content to 51.1%, 53.7% and 55.0%, respectively. It is supposed that increasing salinity concentration causes the retarding of the microbial degradation activities during the composting. And for the efficient composting, the salinity concentration in the sample hat to be maintained below 5%.

  • 대부분의 신 간척지 논은 점토 함량이 적은 반면 미사 함량이 많고 토양 콜로이드의 분산제 역할을 하는 Na함량이 높기 때문에 이러한 토양은 입단화가 저해되고 투수성이 불량해 진다. 이러한 투수와 더불어 다량의 SiO$_2$, F$_2$, MR, MgO 등이 하층으로 용출되어 투수성과 통기성을 저하시키고 간척지 토양의 토양 물리화학적 불량에 의한 저수확답의 원인의 되어 벼의 재배가 어렵고 생산성이 낮아 경제성을 기대하기 어렵다. (김, 1992 : 고건, 1988 ;단야, 1983 ; 전중등, 1974). 따라서 본 실험에서는 토양의 염분농도차이가 토양화학성과 수량에 미치는 영향을 검토하여 간척지 토양의 경제성을 높이는데 기초자료로 활용코자 시험한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 출수기는 0.1%의 염분농도 토양은 8월15일, 0.4%의 염분농도 토양은 8월 20일, 0.8%의 염분 농도 토양은 8월 25일로서 0.1%의 염분농도 토양이 가장 빨랐다. 2. 쌀수량은 토양의 염분농도가 0.1%로 낮은 토양이 599kg/10a로 가장 많았고, 다음으로는 0,4%의 염분농도 토양이 568kg/10a이었고 0.8%의 염분농도 토양은 446kg/10a로 가장 낮았으며 쌀수량 구성요소 역시 같은 경향으로 0.1%의 염분농도 토양에서 가장 우수하였고 다음으로는 0.4%, 0.8%순으로 나타났었다. 3. 쌀수량과 토양의 이화학적 특성간의 상관에서는 pH와는 부의 상관, 유기물, 인산, 질소, 가리, 칼슘, 마그네슘의 함량간에는 정의상관이있다. 4. 전남광양만 간척지에서 쌀수량과 수량 구성요소면에서 볼때에 적합한 토양의 염분농도는 0.1%이라고 사료된다.

  • Rye(Secale cereale cv. Chunchu), barley(Hordeum vulgare cv. Dusan 29#), and italian ryegrass(Lolium multiflorum cv. Barmultra) were treated at 0, 0.1, 0.3, and 0.6 % of NaCl solution for 30 days. Plant height, leaf length, and leaf area were decreased with increasing NaCl level, and leaf area was decreased mainly due to decrease of leaf length. Root length was decreased at higher NaCl levels, but root number was increased. Shoot dry weight was decreased by increasing NaCl levels in rye and italian ryegrass, but barley did not show significant change. Dry weight of root was more decreased than that of shoot at higher NaCl levels. Chlorophyll content was decreased, but electric contuctivty of shoots and roots was increased at higher NaCl levels. Na+ content in shoot and root was increased with increasing NaCl level but the degree was not same. Reducing power of roots was that three crops as affected by NaCl was not equal. Barley was the most tolerant to NaCl stress.

Effect of Dietary Salt Levels on the Performance in Laying Hens and Broilers (사료내 염분 함량이 육계와 산란계의 생산성에 미치는 영향)

  • Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary salt levels on the performance in laying hens and broilers. In experiment 1, 108 Avian broilers of 21 days age were conducted to evaluate broiler's performance. The broilers were divided into 6 treatment groups with 6 pens (3 broilers/pen), and 134 diets with different levels of salt with 0.25 (control), 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and $2.5\%$, respectively, for 3 weeks $(3\~5 weeks)$. The feed intake was not affected by the treatments. However, moisture content in feces was increased as increasing levels of dietary salt (P<0.05). In experiment 2, 135 ISA Brown laying hens were used to evaluate on performance of laying hens. The dietary supplementation of salt levels were prepared at 0.25 (control), 1, 2, 3 and $4\%$, respectively, for 4 weeks. Feed intake was decreased as increasing the dietary salt levels during the experiment (P<0.05). Particularly, it was lower in $3\%\;and\;4\%$ salt level treatments compared with the control (P<0.05). As expected, water intake was increased as increasing the dietary salt levels (P<0.05). Therefore, the present results could indicate that dietary salt content need to be considered for broilers and laying hens.

당뇨와 건강음식 - 당분은 적고 혈관은 튼튼 '아보카도'

  • 혈당이 오르는 것을 방지하기 위해서 당뇨인들은 당분이 들어 있는 음식을 자제하고, 조리 시 설탕대용식품을 사용하기도 한다. 영양이 풍부한 반면 당분이 비교적 적은 아보카도는 당뇨병환자에게 맞춤형 식품이다. 아보카도는 반개를 먹었을 때 160kcal를 내지만, 100g 당 포함하고 있는 당분함량은 2.7g로 적다. 뿐만 아니라 염분함량이 낮고 콜레스테롤이 없어 당뇨병에 여러모로 좋은 식품이다. 조금은 생소하고 낯설은 영양만점 '아보카도'를 소개하고자 한다.

  • This experiment was conducted to elucidate the salt tolerance mechanism of crop plants. Plants used in this experiment were rye, barley, Italian ryegrass. Seeds were treated at saline condition and the saline conditions were controlled by NaCl. The results were summerized as follows. In rye, germination ratio and speed were above 90% and 80% at NaCl concentrations below 0.5% but germination ratio was seriously decreased at NaCl concentration above 0.6%. In barley germination ratio was not less than 80% at NaCl concentration below 0.8%. In italian rye grass germination ratio was decreased gradually by increasing NaCl concentration but germination speed was seriously decreased at NaCl concentration above 0.6% as not more than 7.5%. Water absorption rate was low in barley than rye and it was decreased by increasing NaCl concentration and duration of absorption. In barley, carbohydrate content was decreased slightly in response to increased NaCl concentration and content of reducing sugar was independent of NaCl concentration. In rye, reducing sugar content was increased until 0.3% of NaCl and increased seriously after 20 hours. $\beta-Amylase activity was high at control and 0.6% lot of NaCl, but it was not general tendency.

  • Ten days old rice seedlings were treated with NaCl and the contents of endogenous hormones such as GA$_3$, ABA, IAA and zeatin were measured by ELISA. Water content and seedling growth were decreased as the salt concentration was increased. GA$_3$ increased up to 24 hours after NaCl treatment and decreased thereafter. ABA was raised by four times in 48 hours after NaCl treatment. IAA and zeatin decreased as the NaCl concentration and duration of treatment increased. GA$_3$ and ABA showed positive and negative correlation with the water content in the plant tissue, respectively.

  • The characteristics of food waste in our country is high contents of water and sodium chloride(NaCl). Average water contents of household garbage was 80.0%, and those of wastes of restaurants and of wholesale market of agricultural products was 76.9% and 90.0%, respectively. The NaCl contents were high in household garbage and restaurant's waste as 3.36% and 4.84%, respectively. The NaCl contents of food waste composts made by various techniques known upto now were under the level of 1% by fresh weight basis. But these techniques has some problem that is environment pollution from treated water and high equipment cost. The application to agricultural land of food waste compost that is not sufficiently removed NaCl was considered to be improper due to salt accumulation in soils and plant growth inhibition by salt stress. The purpose of this study is to decompose NaCl in food waste compost using triple salt and this method is differ from existing chemical method. Also, reaction of NaCl with triple salt produced KCl that is basic material of potassium fertilizer. The experiment results of growing lettuce produced difference between food waste compost and treated food waste compost with triple salt. The latter got more high sprouting ratio and a growth rate.

Effects of Temperature and Salinity on the Growth and Paralytic Shellfish Toxin (PST) Production by Toxic Dinoflagellate Alexandrium pacificum (유독 와편모조류 Alexandrium pacificum의 생장과 마비성 패독 생산에 미치는 수온과 염분의 영향)

  • Growth rate and production of the paralytic shellfish poisoning toxin (PST) of a toxic dinoflagellate Alexandrium pacificum (LIMS-PS-2611) isolated from the southern sea of Korea, were examined under various temperatures and salinity conditions. The maximum growth rate (0.28 day-1) was observed under 25℃ and 30 psu. Optimal growth (≥ 70% of maximum growth rate) was obtained between 20~25℃ and 25~35 psu. Among the PSTs of A. pacificum, the principal toxins were C1+2 and GTX5 in N-sulfocarbamoyl toxin group, and minor components were characterized as neoSTXs in the carbamate toxin group. Maximum toxin content was observed under 20℃ and 30 psu, and the toxin content increased with the increase of salinity. Low toxin contents were measured under the temperature and salinity conditions of the maximum growth rate. Therefore, the PSP of bivalve, which occurs at a temperature range of 20-25℃ in June, might have been derived from A. pacificum.

Prediction of concrete corrosion using electrode chemical technique (전기화학적인 콘크리트 부식의 예측)

  • 본 연구는 콘크리트 배합시 염분의 함량이 구조물의 부식에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 수행되었다. 콘크리트는 물 : 포틀랜트 cemente : 자갈 : 모래의 비율을 1 : 1.78 : 5.35 : 4.73의 비율로 하여 배합하였으며 염분의 함량은 0-3.5wt%의 범위에서 철근의 부식을 연구하였다. 부식특성을 연구하기 위하여 부식전위를 2년간 측정하였으며 이를 콘크리트 파괴 후의 철근의 외관 부식도와 비교하였다. 옥내와 옥외에 두었을 때 부식속도의 차이는 없었으며 염분의 함량이 증가함에 따라 활성이 큰 전위값이 측정되었다. 전위값이 낮은 시편은 부동태 피막이 파괴되어 부식이 진행하고 있었으며, 전위값이 높은 시편에서는 부식생성물이 관찰되지 않았다. 본 실험의 결과로 보강용 강재의 부식손상 정도를 자연전위 측정방법을 통하여 콘크리트내 보강용 철근의 부식거동 및 부식속도에 대한 비괴적인 전기화학적 기술로서 구조물의 손상여부를 확인할 수 있었다.
