  • This study aims to analyze the field survey of thermal comfort in office building with national thermal environment standard. Internal and external temperatures were measured at ten minute intervals and compared in accordance with the national standard for thermal environment. Sixty two workers filled in the questionnaire survey forms five times a day for 40 days. Field monitoring of offices in Seoul, Korea were conducted from 20 July to 28 August. Result for the comfort temperature was set a $26.30^{\circ}C$. This indicates that the 26 degree is reliable for the Korean standard. Indoor temperature standard can reduce energy use by air-conditioned buildings and the temperature would be offer comfort to occupants.

  • Numerical analysis of frost heave is challenging due to the influence of soil and environmental factors. Thermo-hydromechanical coupled analysis relies heavily on excessive input variables and primarily focuses on validating clayey soils, so it is limited to frost susceptible silty soils. An empirical approach based on thermodynamics offers relatively simple frost heave analysis and the advantage of linking constitutive equations with frost heave to enable geomechanical interpretations. In this paper, we introduce an empirical numerical model using the Segregation Potential (SP) and evaluate reliability through comparative analysis with experimental results of frost susceptible silty soils. While the SP model enables frost heave analysis for the given silty soils, further investigation on various silty soils is necessary to gather data on key input variables.

  • The occurrence of geothermal water has high correlates highly with fossil geothermal system. A fuzzy logic based data integration is applied for geothermal potential mapping in the Southern Gyeongsang Basin which is distributed in the regional fossil geothermal system. Several data sets are related with the origin and distribution of fossil geothermal system, such as the geological map, the density of lineaments, the aerial survey map of magnetic intensity, the map of hydrothermal alteration, the distribution density of hydrothermal mines, which were collected as thematic maps for the integration. Fuzzy membership functions for all thematic maps were compared to the locations of the spa hot springs, which were used as ground-truth control points. After integrating all thematic maps, the results of gamma operator (${\gamma}=0.1$) was showed the highest success rate, and new geothermal potential zone is prospected in some area.

  • This study evaluated the in-site compressive strength development of high-strength concrete developed for the mass structures under cold weather condition. Two mock-up wall specimens with $2.0{\times}1.2{\times}1.0m$ in dimension were cured under an average temperature of $5^{\circ}C$. Core strengths measured at different locations of the mock-up walls were compared with the companion standard cylinder strengths. Test results revealed that the core strength of mock-up walls at an age of 3 days is higher by approximately 30% than the companion cylinder strength because of the high curing temperature effect generated from the heat of hydration of cementitious materials. Furthermore, comparisons with the prediction models based on maturity function confirmed that the effect of hydration heat on the curing temperature increase needs to be reflected to reasonably evaluate the on-site compressive strength development of concrete for mass elements.

  • In this paper, we propose a new objective speech quality measure using noise masking threshold for speech quality assessment of mobile telephone network environments, and verify the effectiveness of the proposed method through the experiments. For such a purpose, well known objective speech quality measures such as BSD and PSQM are first evaluated for digital mobile telephone network environments. However, these conventional methods does not have good performance under mobile networks environments compared to literary results. To be mote effective objective speech quality measure under mobile telephone environments, the proposed method employs human psychoacoustic masking effect. The DMOS, instead of MOS, is used as a subjective speech quality measure for performance evaluation. The performance comparison are carried out with speech data collected from digital mobile telephone environments. As results, the proposed measure have and average 4% higher performance, in terms of correlation, than existing objective speech quality measures such as BSD and PSQM.

  • Vegetation is the basis for biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. In the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which is the most direct and efficient policy measure to prevent degradation of nature, vegetation-related assessment has limitations as it is not based on quantitative and scientific methods. In addition, it focuses on the presence of protected species; hence, it does not take into account the role of vegetation as a habitat on a wide-area scale. As a way to overcome these limitations, this study aims to contribute to the quantification and advancement of future EIA on vegetation. Through the review of previous studies, core areas, connectivity, and vegetation condition were derived as the items to be dealt within the macroscopic aspect of vegetation impact assessment. Each item was spatially constructed using land cover maps and satellite imageries, and time series change analysis was performed. As a result, it was found that vegetation has been continuously deteriorating due to development in all aspects, and in particular, development adversely affects not only the inside of the project site but also the surrounding area. Although this study suggested the direction for improvement of the EIA in the vegetation sector based on data analysis, a more specific methodology needs to be established in order to apply it to the actual EIA process. By actively utilizing various environmental spatial data, the impact of the development on the natural ecosystem can be minimized.

  • A closed loop thermal control system simulates space thermal environment to verify the satellites' functionality in extremely cold/hot temperature. It is composed of a cryogenic blower, thermal shroud, heater, cryogenic valves. This paper presents an overview of closed loop thermal control system's design parameter and test results for control parameter. A capacity of blower is calculated through energy balance equation and an advantage/disadvantage for a shroud material and a type was analysed. The thermal control system is controlled by a constant density of fluid in the system. A requested performance of closed loop thermal control system was verified by measuring a homogeneity and stability of shroud through control parameter such as density and RPM of blower.
