Nine wells have been developed for uses of thermal waters at the Icheon hot spa area. Drilling depths of those hot spring wells range from 166 to 294 m and their piezometric heads are located at about 50 m below the surface. Using the differences between the surface and bottom temperatures within all boreholes, we can simply estimate geothermal gradient in this area. Thus, we obtained the highest, lowest and average gradient values as $64^{\circ}C/km$ from SB-2 well, $45^{\circ}C/km$ from SB-1 well and approximately $54.28^{\circ}C/km$, respectively. However, observing the MRD-2 well additionally drilled into the depth of 996 m, we found out that this study area has widely experienced the temperature disturbance due to thermal groundwater penetration through the fracture systems within the depth of 720 m. Unlikely this phenomenon, we can conclude that the groundwater flow below the depth of 720 m does not exist. Therefore, using only those temperature data below the 720 m depth, we can estimate reasonable geo-thermal gradient values as $33^{\circ}C/km$ in this study area. Pumping test shows that outflowing temperature is $36^{\circ}C$ corresponding to the temperature logging data at 720 m depth.
We performed the numerical study on the comparison of thermal comport performance indices for cooling loads in the classroom when the 4-way cassette air-conditioner is mounted on the ceiling. We investigated the velocity and the temperature distribution of the classroom as with respect to the variation of the air diffusion angle of the air-conditioner. Air diffusion performance index and Predicted mean vote were used for analyzing the characteristics of the thermal comport in the classroom and comparing their values each other. From the numerical results, we knew that the thermal comport is largely affected by the air diffusion angle and velocity of the air-conditioner. And we also found out that the qualitative tendency of the distribution between Air diffusion performance index and Predicted mean vote is very similar in all occupied zone.

In this research, the image obtained by TM platformed in the LANDSAT-5 and the terrestrial infrared image obtained by the Thermo Tracer were employed in order to search the distribution of industrial thermal plume discharged into seas. Sea surface temperature distributions were deduced based on the infrared band 6 in the TM image of the LANDSAT by employing the transformal formula provided by the CSFC of the NASA and post-calibration values. The temperature distributions were also obtained with the processing mode of the TH1100 series from the terrestrial thermal image or the Thermo tracer. According to the results of the image analyses with this methods, it was found that sea surface temperatures in shallow coastal area largely affected by the temperatures of the freshwater and inland and that the range and the area of distribution of the thermal plume can be visualized quantitatively. Furthermore, when the terrestrial thermal infrared scanner is used, the more details of the distribution range can be obtained, and the image results are comparable to those obtained from the LNADSTA.

Observation of land surface temperature in industrial areas is problematic, as it is not possible to construct a network of weather stations with sufficiently high density and continuous operation in such zones. Multiphase remote sensing data that cover a wide area and take a short time to process can enable the user to precisely and continuously measure the current and changing land surface temperatures in a certain region. Jeollanam-Do in South Korea is undergoing rapid industrialization, with the establishment of a number of industrial complexes, such as the Gwangyang Steelworks, Yeosu Industrial Complex, Yulchon Industrial complex, and Daebul Industrial Complex. To look into the properties of industrial complex's temperature, this study uses the thermal band of Landsat 7 ETM+ images acquired under thermal infrared wavelengths in order to calculate and compare the surface temperatures of the four above-named industrial complexes. From this, it is possible to obtain the basic information about industrial complex for environmental and natural resource management, which will aid industrial complex planners in developing methods of addressing environmental problems.

It is widely believed that increasing socio-economic polarization inspired by globalization and economic restructuring worsens residential segregation by class in Korean cities. However, the existing literature falls short in showing the recent changes of the residential segregation, particularly after the 1997 financial crisis, with reliable and systematic segregation measures. Noting that there are the two major dimension in residential segregation - evenness-concentration and exposure-clustering - this study introduced not only global measure (dissimilarity index and isolation/interaction index) but also local measures (location quotient and Local Moran's I) for each dimension. These measures are applied to the case study of Seoul in the 2000s. The class is defined by education attainment and the data is obtain through the MicroData System Service System(MDSS). The result shows that the residential segregation by education attainment persists through 2000s and even get worse in some dimension. More significantly, it turns out that high-class and low-class residence are nearly mirror-images of each other, indicating high segregation.
The problem of subsidence of the roadbed near the Honam High Speed Railway, which opened in April 2015, continues to be raised, and the ground stability of the area near the Honam High Speed Railway may also be problematic. It is very important to select the factors that determine the indicators and indicators in producing the risk maps. Existing risk indicators are calculated as the final displacement volume based on the last observed date of the observed period, and time-series indicator displacement must be identified to analyze the cause of subsidence and the behavior of the indicator. Furthermore, for a wide range of regions, it is economically inefficient to conduct direct level measurements, so we wanted to observe surface displacement using SAR images. In this paper, time series indicator displacement was observed using PS-InSAR techniques, and risk was compared by rating each factor using the difference between final indicator displacement, cumulative indicator displacement, minimum displacement and maximum displacement as factors for determining risk indicators. As a result, the risk rating of the final displacement is different from that of each factor, and we propose adding factors from different perspectives in determining risk indicators. It is expected to be an important study in finding the cause of ground subsidence and finding solutions.

This study analyzes factors that affect average daily travel time budgets, using the Time Use Survey data from 1999 to 2014 in Seoul. We first developed multivariate regression models for travel time from each year, considering demographic and socio-economic variables as well as non-home activity time. The model results showed that household and personal characteristics and non-home activities significantly affect travel time, and their effects are different over time. In addition, we developed seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) models for time allocation for non-home activity and travel, considering their correlations, and explanatory variables were compared over time. Overall, demographic and socio-economic variables significantly affect travel time as well as non-home activity time.
While much attention has been given to pedestrian environments recently, methods to evaluate their service level have not been fully developed yet. Although many kinds of pedestrian environment-related surveys and field studies are conducted, data are not systematically collected and accumulated due to the lack of consistent evaluation tools and methods. In this regard, it is necessary to develop reasonable evaluation methods for pedestrian environments. This paper suggests technical indices to evaluate pedestrian environments for a city. These indices provide useful ways to determine priorities to enhance pedestrian streets and also provide ways to compare cross sectional and time series changes of pedestrian environments. These indices therefore can be used as criteria for pedestrian environment planning and policy.

It is very important to detect land cover/land use change from the past and to use it for future urban plan. This paper investigated the application of Landsat satellite imagery for detecting urban growth and assessing its impact on surface temperature in the region. Land cover/land use change detection was carried out by using 30m resolution Landsat satellite images and hierarchial approach was introduced to detect more detail change on the changing area through high resolution aerial photos. Also, surface temperature according to land cover/land use was calculated from Landsat TM thermal infrared data and compared with real temperature to analyze the relationship between urban expansion and surface temperature. As a result, the urban expansion has raised surface radiant temperature in the urbanized area. The method using remote sensing data based on GIS was found to be effective in monitoring and analysing urban growth and in evaluating urbanization impact on surface temperature.
