  • Recently, the technologies to utilize the cold energy of liquefied natural gas (LNG) have attracted significant attention. In this paper, thermodynamic performance analysis of combined cycles consisting of ammonia Rankine cycle (AWR) and organic Rankine cycle (ORC) with LNG Rankine cycle to recover low-grade heat source and the cold energy of LNG. The mathematical models are developed and the effects of the important system parameters such as turbine inlet pressure, ammonia mass fraction, working fluid on the system performance are systematically investigated. The results show that the thermal efficiency of AWR-LNG cycle is higher but the total power production of ORC-LNG cycle is higher.

  • Performance simulation for a Spark Ignition Wankel rotary Engine is presented in this paper. The volume of chamber at each eccentric shaft angle is evaluated by using geometric models of housing and rotor. A thermodynamic model which includes the first law of thermodynamics, combustion and convective heat transfer from chamber contents to surroundings is imployed. A thermochemical equilibrium model which considers 10 species(CO, $CO_2$, $O_2$, $H_2$, $H_2O$, OH, O, NO, $N_2$) in the burned gas region, is also employed. Four processes of gas exchange, compression, combustion and expansion are considered and the pressure, temperature and composition of chamber gas at each eccentric shaft angle in each process are computed in this performance simulation. This performance simulation must be useful for optimal design of Spark Ignition Wankel Rotray Engine with parametric study for various design parameters and operating conditions.

  • When detonation is occurred, the working fluid is compressed itself, though there are no other devices that compress the fluid. As a result, an engine which uses detonation for a combustion process doesn't need moving parts so that the engine can be lighter than other engines ever exist, and such an engine is often referred to as a pulse detonation engine. Since using detonation has higher performance than using deflagration, many studies have been attempting to control and analyze the engines using detonation as combustion. The purpose of this study is to analyze the hybrid cycle which is consisted of Brayton and Pulse Detonation Engine cycle. At first, we set the theoretical basis of detonation analysis, and after that we consider two hybrid cycles; a turbojet hybrid cycle and a turbofan hybrid cycle. The more energy released, the higher detonation Mach number the detonation wave has. In general, a cycle which has a detonation process has higher performances but thermal efficiency of hybrid turbofan engine.

  • Analytical study on the thermodynamical cyclic behabiour and characteristics of HFC-l34a refrigerant for automotive air conditionser system for the replacement of existing CFC-12 has been carried out in this paper through development of system performance simulation program, expecially in the view point of system design considerations. The results indicate that HFC-l34a system will give a greater refrigerating capacity than CFC-12 if appropriate engineering measures such as proper codensers, flow controllers, etc., taken for certain operating conditions. The results, however, also show that the operating power for compression process increases over entire temperature range as a result of decreasing volumetric efficiency due to larger specific volume and increased discharging pressure. The present study results indicate that proper selection of condensing and evaporating temperature plus refrigerant control is very important performance factor to have better COP in the HFC-134a system design.

  • In this paper, the integration issue, such as an air-side integration design between the gas turbine and air separation unit, is described and analyzed by the exergy and energy balance of the combined-cycle power block in an IGCC power plant. The results showed that the net power of the system was almost same, but that of the gas turbine was decreased as the integration degree increased. The highest exergy loss was occurred in the combustor of gas turbine, which was affected by the chemical reaction, heat conduction, mass diffusion, and viscous dissipation.

  • Performance of two vapor pressure correlation equations in a polynomial expression is compared. These are the Wagner-type equation and the Inverted form equation. The equations are fitted to correlate the data in the ASHRAE tables and from NIST Chemistry WebBook for 17 pure substances. Some observations on the exponents in the two polynomial equations are made, which results in a proposal of a new closed form vapor pressure equation. The new equation yields the accuracy comparable to that of the Wagner-type equation and better than that of the Inverted form equation.

  • This paper presents a thermodynamic performance analysis of regenerative organic Rankine cycle (ORC) using turbine bleeding to utilize low-grade finite thermal energy. Refrigerant R245fa was selected as the working fluid. Special attention is paid to the effects of the turbine bleeding pressure and the turbine bleed fraction on the thermodynamic performance of the system such as net power production and thermal efficiency. Results show that the thermal efficiency has an optimum value with respect to the turbine bleeding pressure and the net power production is lower than the basic ORC while the thermal efficiency is higher.

  • In this study, a technique has been developed to analyze the performance of the launching system using a gas generator of solid propellant. The physical model which described the thermodynamic behaviors of all launching devices from gas generator to canister and the dynamic behavior of missile was established, applying the empirical coefficients in the heat loss model. The processes of combustion, flow, and heat transfer inside the chamber of gas generator and the launching system were simulated by numerical method. The theoretical analysis guided the optimal design of gas generator and system, which made the launching system satisfy the requirements of good performance and high reliability.
