Effects of Spring Seeding Dates on Dry Matter Yield and Feed Value of Alfalfa in the Central Area of South Korea (중부지방에서 봄 파종시기가 알팔파의 건물 생산량과 사료가치에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to determine the optimal spring seeding dates for alfalfa yield and feed value. The experiment was conducted annually for three years (2021~2023) at the field in the Department of Animal Resources Development, NIAS, located in Cheonan. The treatments involved six seeding dates ranging from February 24 to April 14, with 10days intervals. Alfalfa was harvested four times a year at the early flowering stage. Dry matter yield showed a tendency to decrease with delayed the seeding date. However, depending on the climatidc condisions in the seeding year, the dry matter yield on March 14 or 24 was comparable to that on February 24. Annual dry matter yield varied, influenced by the daylight conditions each year. The average feed value did not significantly differ within in the same year with delayed seeding dates (p>0.05). Therefore, the most stable period for alfalfa spring seeding in the central area of South Korea is considered to be from February 24 to April 4, with February 24 indentified as the optimal date.

A Review on Conception of Policy for Production of Imported Tropical and Temperate Fresh Fruits Using Hot Waste Water from Power Plant (발전소 온배수를 활용한 온·열대 신선과일 수입대체 정책 방안)

  • One of the policies of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Livestock Food and Livestock aims to export $10 billion worth of products. Although it was not easy to achieve the export goal of $ 6.5 billion in 2016, the policy should be pursued continuously. Accordingly, a facility modernization project and high-tech greenhouse project are being implemented to facilitate exports. Moreover, it is possible to consider substitution of imports in the policy shift. Imports of temperate and tropical fresh fruits totaled 1.2 trillion won in 2016. Accordingly, identification of alternatives to tropical and temperate fresh fruit imports will enable farm income to increase and the fresh fruit industry to grow. The major obstacle to tropical fruit production in Korea is high heating costs. However, Jeju Island apple mango farmers found that using non-taxable kerosene and hot water from power plants could reduce heating costs by 42.5%. Indeed, using hot wastewater can reduce heating costs by more than 40%. To improve competition with imported fruits, farmers can change their heating systems using financial support plans (e.g., 20% government subsidies, 20% loans, 30% subsidies from local governments). The income effect and import substitution effect of fruit tree farmers should be carefully analyzed in the future and the study will be closed to discuss the policy direction.

Effect of Long Day Period Before Short Day treatment on the Dry Matter Production and Flower Quality of Greenhouse-Grown Cut Chrysanthemum cv, Reagan Improved (단일처리전 장일처리 기간이 온실재배 스프레이 절화국의 건물생산과 절화품질에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted under the condition of greenhouse to investigate the relationships between the period of long day (LD) treatment before short day treatment, the dry matter production and flower quality of cut chrysanthemum (Indicum group) cv. Reagan Improved at Wagenigen University in the Netherlands. Rooted cuttings of chrysanthemum (Indicum group) cv. Reagan Improved were transplanted on 6th, 13th, loth of September and all of them were treated with short-days (SD) on 21th September. The periods from planting until final harvest were 70, 77, 84 days after being planted for 1, 2, and 3 week-LD period, respectively. The time of flower initiation was similar in all treatments. The number of flowers per plant was greater in the plot of 3 week-LD period than that in the plot of 1 or 2 week-LD period. The fresh weight and dry weight of flowers also increased more in the plot of 3 week-LD period than that in the 1 week-LD period by 4g and 0.4g, respectively. The final dry matter production ($g{\cdot}m$^{-2}$ ) was greater in the treatment of 3 week-LD period than 1 or 2week-LD period. In this study, LD period before short day treatment did not affect the time of flower initiation and flower quality. As a result, 3 week-LD period before short day treatment was strongly recommanded for producing high quality cut flowers of greenhouse-grown chrysanthemum.

Effect of Immature Rhizome Productivity according to Harvest Times-based Treatment Method for Seed Production of Gastrodia elata (천마 종자 생산을 위한 수확시기별 처리방법에 따른 자마 생산력 효과)

  • This study was investigated the effect of immature rhizome production according to harvest times-based treatment method for seed production of Gastrodia elata. The results revealed that when the tuber weight of G. elata harvested in spring (GEHS) was ${\geq}100g$, the rate of artificial fertilization, protocorm formation, and immature rhizome formation was 90.9%-94.8%, 3.1%-5.4%, and 10.1%-15.3%, respectively. When G. elata harvested in fall (GEHF) was treated at a low temperature for 4 weeks or more, the rate of artificial fertilization, protocorm formation, and immature rhizome formation was 70.4%-87.6%, 2.2%-2.6%, 8.7%-9.5%, respectively. Therefore, to produce seeds and immature rhizomes, GEHS must have tubers of more than 100 g, whereas GEHF requires breaking dormancy by low-temperature treatment for 4 weeks or more. Compared with those of GEHS, the rate of artificial fertilization, protocorm formation, and immature rhizome formation was lower in GEHF; however, it was higher than those in the natural germination state. Thus, it can be expected that G. elata can be produced throughout the year by ensuring that the seeds and immature rhizomes of G. elata are produced using a constant tuber weight and by breaking dormancy with low temperature treatment.

  • 식물체가 건조 스트레스를 받으면 각 기관 물질 생산의 변이, 분화 및 발달 억제를 통해서 식물의 생산활동을 현저히 저하시켜, 식물의 생장, 형태, 개체발생 및 대사생리에 영향을 미치는 것으로 연구되어 왔다. 최근 기후 온난화로 인해 온도가 점진적으로 상승하고 가뭄과 같은 이상기상이 빈번하게 발생함에 따라 많은 노지 작물의 농업 생산성이 약화되고 있다. 배추는 우리나라의 대표적인 식품 중 하나인 김치의 주재료로 연중 안정적인 생산과 공급이 필요시 되지만, 배추의 경우 건조 조건에서 엽육조직의 붕괴와 같은 생리장해가 발생되기 때문에 최근 발생되고 있는 이상 기후의 영향으로 안정적인 생산이 어려워지고 있는 실정이다. 하지만, 배추에서는 이상 기후에 대응이 가능한 내건성 품종의 육성을 위한 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 내건성이 높은 배추 개발을 위한 기초소재를 찾는 것을 목적으로 농촌진흥청 유전자원센터에서 보존하고 있는 재래종 배추 30계통을 분양받아 강릉원주대학교 생명과학대학 내의 조직배양실을 이용하여 연구를 수행하였다. 배지는 Tissue Culture Square Dish(125×125×20mm)에 Agar를 녹여 40ml씩 분주하여 고체배지를 조성한 후, 건조 처리구 Polyrthylene glycol 6000(PEG) 0%(Control), 20%(Mild Stress), 30%(Severe Stress)를 설정하여 60ml씩 추가 분주하여 배양기 28℃에서 15시간 처리를 하였다. 분양받은 각 계통의 종자는 1% 차아염소산 나트륨으로 10분간 종자표면을 살균한 후, 5번 정도 멸균수로 헹군 후, 표면 살균한 재래종 종자를 고체배지 시험관에 6립씩 치상하였다. 식물체 생육은 각 처리구별 3반복으로 하였으며 주간 12시간 주기, 광도 2,400Lux, 온도 20℃의 조직배양실에서 치상 후 7일간 생육하였다. 치상 후 7일간 생육시킨 식물체를 채취하여 지상부생체중, 지하부 생체중, 뿌리 길이를 측정하였으며, 지상부와 지하부로 나누어 50℃에서 72시간 건조시킨 후, 건물 생산량을 조사하였다. 본 실험 결과 건조 처리(PEG-6000)는 배추의 생장을 저해하였지만, 생육 저해 정도는 계통간의 차이가 있는 것을 관찰할 수 있었으며 무처리구와 스트레스 처리구간의 생장량 변화 정도를 기반으로 군집분석을 수행한 결과 'IT110483'과 'IT104903' 계통이 실험에 공시된 계통들 중 상대적으로 강한 건조 내성을 가진 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 따라서, 재래종 배추 계통 중 일부는 건조내성이 강한 새로운 배추 품종을 육성하는데 있어 유용하게 이용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

  • 풋고추의 재배면적은 시설채소 면적이 증가하면서 연중 생산이 가능하게 되어 급속히 증가하고 있으며 신선 채소류에 대한 선호도가 늘어나면서 풋고추의 소비량이 늘어나고 있다. 2001년 현재 고추의 시설재배 면적은 5,517㏊로써 과채류 시설재배면적의 10%를 차지하고 있다. 재배지역별로는 경남, 전남, 광주, 충남지역이 전체 재배면적의 73%를 차지하고 있으며 풋고추는 시설재배로 대부분이 주산단지로 이루어져 있어 선별작업기계화가 요망되고 있다. 이와 같이 풋고추선별에 대한 기계화 요구도가 높은 반면 아직까지 풋고추의 선별작업은 전적으로 인력에 의존하므로 많은 노동력이 소요되며 작업능률이 낮고 육안에 의존하기 때문에 정확한 크기선별이 곤란한 실정이다. 또한 고추의 선별ㆍ포장에 소요되는 작업노력으로 인하여 주산지별로 선택ㆍ포장 작업의 기계화 요구도가 높다.   • 우리나라의 시설재배는 연중 고품질의 농산물을 요구하는 소비자의 기대와 생산자의 경제적 목적이 부합되어 재배면적이 증가하고 있으며 전체 시설재배면적의 31.3%는 수리시설이 완비된 관개논에 위치한다. 시설재배지에서의 수분관리는 작물의 안정적인 생산과 수자원의 효율적인 사용을 위하여 토양 특성을 고려하여 운영되어야 한다. 따라서 시설재배지 토양 특성을 반영한 작물근군역에서의 물수지와 수분거동 특성에 관한 연구가 선행되어야한다. 불포화토양에서의 수분이동은 토양-작물-대기의 연속계에서 수분의 공급과 증발산, 배수 및 유거에 의한 토양수분 장력의 변화로 이루어지며 토양수분과 토양수분 장력, 수리전도도와의 관계는 토양의 수리적 특성에 따라 상이하다. 실험을 통한 토양수분 거동 분석은 시간적, 비용적 측면에서 비효율적이므로 모형에 의한 분석이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 불포화토양에서의 수분이동을 모의하기 위하여 Richards 공식을 유한차분법으로 해석하였으며 국내 논 시설재배지 이(異)층토양에 대하여 다양한 관개조건을 적용하여 토양수분 거동 특성을 분석하였다. 관개와 작물의 수분흡수가 지속됨에 따라 근군역을 이탈한 토양수분이 유하되어 밭 토양과 논 토양의 경계에 축적됨을 확인 하였으며 과다관개가 이루어질수록 이러한 현상이 심화되는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 관개시스템의 설계와 운영에 기초자료로 활용될 수 있다.

Application of a Pond System to Korea for Treatment and Recycling of Wastewater (하수 처리 및 재활용 연못시스템의 국내 응용)

  • The applicability to Korea is examined of a pond system which treats and recycles wastewaters. Air temperature and solar radiation of the pond systems at Corinne, Utah, and Eudora, Kansas, which are located in temperate regions of the U.S., are compared with those of Kimpo lying in the mid-western part of Korea. Analyzed are also $BOD_5$ and SS concentrations, algal concentrations, pH levels, and water temperature of the two systems. Air temperature of Kimpo is quite similar to that of the two systems, and solar radiation of Kimpo is more conducive than that of the systems to the growth of algae during summer. Analysis of $BOD_5$ and SS concentrations in the final effluent of the systems shows that they meet the secondary treatment standards. The study demonstrates that wastewater treatment pond system which is similar in design to the systems can be reliably utilized at Kimpo, Korea. A model is proposed which can integrate a pond system with aquaculture and agriculture.

A Study on the Design of Metadata for Research Data Management in Forestry Engineering (임산공학 분야 연구데이터 관리를 위한 메타데이터 설계에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, many academic fields are developing metadata to manage data produced in the field. Metadata to support a specific academic field beyond the general field is considered essential for searching, managing, sharing, and reusing research data in the field. Therefore, in this study, metadata items were derived to manage research data produced in forestry engineering. In order to derive metadata items, mapping work was performed on 7 metadata such as FGDC-CSDGM, ISO 19115, NEFIS, INSPIRE, ANZLIC, DataCite 4.3, and TTA.KO-10.0976. As a result of this study, 6 mandatory, 13 recommendations and 9 optional elements were derived. The derived metadata can be used as an item to systematically manage research data in the field of forestry engineering.

Trend and direction for plant factory system (식물공장 시스템의 동향과 발전방향)

  • Plant factory is the fruit of the most advanced modern agricultural technology. This is a crop-producing technology that controls systematically sowing, cultivating, and harvesting crops within an indoor factory. Growing crops in a factory has advantages over traditional farming because it produces safer crops all year around due to clean environment and it is easier to hire workers at the factory. Developed countries has invested actively in this field for several decades because its economical and industrial impact are predicted to be enormous. Recently, Korea also begins to investigate this field actively to develop a system that may be competitive at global market, using technologies and human resources that Korea already has. The plant factory technology is currently less competitive than traditional farming because it requires a large initial investment and management cost and lacks cultivation technologies for various crops. However, I believe in solving these problems if plant biotechnologists participate in developing the plant factory system. If this technology is developed well in Korea, then it will play a great role in solving food and environmental issues.
