Detection of Inflow Permeable Zones Using Fluid Replacement Conductivity Logging in Coastal Aquifer (공내수 치환 전기전도도검층을 이용한 연안지역 대수층의 탐지)

  • Fluid replacement and conductivity logging have been applied to three boreholes in coastal aquifer in order to identify permeable fractures and to estimate the origin of saline groundwater. Fluid replacement technique measures and monitors the change of borehole fluid conductivity with depth under ambient or pumping condition after replacing the original borehole fluid with different one (by pumping out original one and injecting simultaneously new one at the hole bottom). After the replacement of borehole fluid, the change of fluid conductivity can be the direct indicator of the intake flow of formation water through aquifer such as permeable fractures or porous formations. The conductivity profiles measured with times therefore indicate the locations of permeable zone or fractures within the open hole or the fully slotted casing hole. As a result of fluid conductivity logging for three boreholes at coastal area in Yeonggwang, Jeonam Province, it is interpreted that the seawater intrusion in this area is not by remnant saline groundwater after land reclamation but mainly by intrusion of saline water through fractured rock. This approach might be useful for assessing the characteristics of seawater intrusion, the design of optimal pumping, the mitigation of seawater intrusion using freshwater injection, and estimating the hydraulic characteristics in coastal aquifer.

  • The increasing international awareness regarding air pollutant reduction has resulted in increasing demand for eco-friendly ships; hence, electric ships are being actively developed by various countries. Presently, studies on electric ships are mainly focused on electric propulsion systems and electric motors. However, from the ship perspective, there are no studies on conceptual designs for coastal car ferries powered by removable power supply systems. In the present study, the main research consideration is regarding the conceptual design of a fully electrified car ferry using a battery-based removable system as the main power source. By analyzing the dimensions of more than 100 domestic coastal car ferries, the main criteria satisfying the requirements for developing a suitable vessel were derived, and a study on intact/damage stability was conducted considering the application of a removable battery truck. Further analyses of the problems concerning the conceptual design were also performed to derive solutions.

  • 용존 산소 센서는 하천과 연안으로 유입되는 오염원을 측정하는 곳에 사용되고 있다. 상용화되고 있는 용존 산소 센서는 멤브레인의 부유물 점착 및 전해질 변질로 인해 수명이 단축되는 문제점이 있다. 본 연구팀에서는 수명 문제를 해결하기 위해 실시간 연속 측정이 가능한 자동 교체형 초소형 용존 산소 센서를 개발하고자 한다.

Distribution of Anchovy Eggs and Larvae off the Western and Southern Coasts of Korea (한국남해 및 서해 연안해역에서의 멸치난치어의 분포)

  • The distribution of anchovy eggs and larvae was studied using the ichthyoplankton samples and oceanographic data collected in the western and southern waters of Korea over the period of April through June in 1981 and 1982. Three water masses, the Tsushima Warm Current, the South Korean Coatal Water and the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water, are found to exert extensive influences of the distribution of anchovy eggs and larvae. The Tsushima Warm Current contacts with the South Korean Coastal Water to produce a coastal front between Cheju Island and Tsushima Island in the southern waters of Korea. Off the west coast of Korea, a coastal front is also formed running parallel with the western coast-line of Korea in the area between the Yellow Sea Bottom Cold Water and the extended part of the South Korean Coastal Water. In the southern waters of Korea anchovy eggs were found chiefly in the coastal waters inside the front, and larvae appeared to both sides on the front. The distribution of anchovy eggs and larvae off the west coast of Korea, however, was limited largely to the coastal waters of more than $12^{\circ}C$ in temperature. In the southern waters of Korea prelarvae appeared in the coastal area, and postlarvae in the offshore area. While in the western waters of Korea prelarvae were found in the southern part of the waters, and postlarvae in the northern part. Anchovy eggs and larvae were distributed in the considerably limited area of the coastal waters off the south coast of Korea in 1981 when the temperature gradient of the coastal front was sharper than in 1982.

Research on Basic Concept Design for Digital Twin Ship Platform (디지털트윈 선박 플랫폼 설계를 위한 연구)

  • The International Maritime Organization is establishing international agreements on maritime safety and security to prepare for the introduction of autonomous ships. In Korea, the industry is focusing on autonomous navigation system technology development, and to reduce accidents involving coastal ships, research on autonomous ship technology application plans for coastal ships is in progress. Interest in autonomously operated ships is increasing worldwide, and maritime demonstrations for verification of developed technologies are being pursued. In this study, a basic investigation was conducted on the design of a demonstration ship and an onshore platform (remote support center) using digital twin technology for application to coastal ships. To apply digital twin technology, an 8-m small battery-powered electric propulsion ship was selected as the target. The basic design of the twin-integrated platform was developed. The ship navigation and operation data were stored on a server system, and remote-control commands of the electric propulsion ship was achieved through communication between the ship and the onshore platform. Ship performance management, operation and operation optimization, and predictive control are possible using this digital twin technology. This safe and economical digital twin technology is applicable to ships responding to crisis scenarios.

  • 해양에너지는 자원량이 무한하고 무공해이기 때문에 미래의 중요한 대체에너지의 하나로 그 역할이 기대되고 있다. 세계적으로 파력, 조력, 해류, 해상풍력 등의 신재생에너지 이용 방안이 지속적으로 연구개발 되고 있다. 이중 파력은 모든 해역에 폭넓게 분포하므로 가용 에너지원이 풍부하고 설치 해역 또한 광범위하여 우리나라의 연안 해역에 대규모로 활용이 가능하다. 본 연구는 이와같은 파랑에너지를 이용하여 전기로 변환하는 파력 발전용 횡류형터빈의 개발을 하고자 한다.

온달굴의 개발타당성 연구

  • 온달굴은 우리나라 내륙산지의 서쪽기슭에 속하는 충청북도 단양땅에 있는 석회동굴이다. 그 옛날 온달장군이 이 동굴속에서 심신을 단련시켰다하여 온달굴이라고 한다. 한편 이 동굴은 남한강 강가의 남쪽연안에 있기 때문에 남굴이라고도 전해지고 있는 동굴이다. 사실상 이 온달굴에 있는 단양땅에는 이미 고수동굴, 노동굴 그리고 천동동굴이 관광동굴로 공개되고 있으므로 될 수 있으면 이 동굴만이라도 길이 보존관리하는 것이 좋다고 사료되기는 하나 이미 이 동굴이 지금부터 15년전에 2년동안 이 기나긴 세월을 관광동굴로 개발 이용되었던 동굴이므로 동굴내부는 매우 훼손, 오염이 심하며 더구나 그 당시에 설치되었던, 통로, 교량, 전기조명 시설들이 그대로 방치되어 왔었기에 이미 훼손된 동굴이기에 개발의 타당성을 연구하게 된 것이다.(중략)

  • 친환경 선박의 연구개발을 위하여 LNG, 수소 등 신에너지 추진 선박을 활용하고자 신에너지 추진 선박의 전문 연구기관으로 발전시키고 4차 산업혁명에서의 스마트 선박을 선도하고자 본 선박의 설계를 추진하게 되었다. 또한, 해양관광산업과 연계하고자 친환경 유람선 및 친환경 에너지원을 사용하여 추진할 수 있는 적합한 선형 개발을 목표로 진행하고자 하며, 연안 유람선 기술 개발로 지역 기반산업 활성화에 기여하는데 목적이 있다.

Seasonal Changes of Zooplankton Communities along the Coast of Geumo Arichipelago, Yeosu (여수 금오열도 연안에서 동물플랑크톤 군집의 계절 변동)

  • To understand the seasonal changes in the zooplankton community, we investigated their occurrence patterns and environmental factors during four seasons at 9 stations along the coast of Geumo Archipelago, Yeosu. A total of 44 taxa were sampled, with an abundance ranging from 15~$28,183inds.\;m^{-3}$, among which Noctiluca scintillans predominented. Noctiluca scintillans, Paracalaus parvus s. l., Acartia (Acartiura) omorii, Oithona spp., Aidanosagitta crassa, dedapods larvae, copepods nauplii, and copepodites were the most abundant taxa detected. Species diversity of zooplankton was high in autumn and winter, but it was relatively low in summer and spring. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) revealed significant differences in the structures of the zooplankton community among the seasons. Our results showed that the seasonal variation in zooplankton community along the coast of Guemo Archipelago, Yeosu were attributable to seasonal changes in temperature, salinity, and Chl. a concentration. Additionally, this particularly study area might have been specifically influenced by occurs of the neritic species.
