Paralytic Shellfish Toxin Composition and Intoxication of Scallops (Patinopecten yessoensis) in Kangnung Coastal Waters of East Sea in 1997 (강릉 연안산 참가리비의 PSP 독화 및 독조성)

  • Toxicity and toxin compositions of wild and cultured scallops (Patinopecten yessoensis), collected from coastal waters near Kangnung of East Sea, were examined from January to June, 1997. By mouse bioassay methods, the toxicity was detected with low toxicity of $2 MU\;g^{-1}$, and paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) toxin was detected in the specimens from 30 April to 15 May by HPLC. GTXs and PXs were identified as the major toxin components.

  • Temperature inversion off Wasaka Bay in the East Sea was studied using data measured on a CREAMS cruise in June of 1995 and 1996. Temperature inversion occurred mainly at the upper layer of the thermocline at a depth of no more than 20 m and around the thermal front between the TWC and the coastal waters of Japan. At some stations. temperature inversion had an influence un density inversion, while, in some other stations, high salinity water prevented density inversion.

  • It is difficult to expect the service improvements such as increased number of sailing and making new ship due to financial difficulty this is caused by deterioration of island dwellers. In addition, the safety of ship operation is also a problem with the supply of good sailors difficult problem of low wages and lack of safety working environment. T It is necessary to ensure the introduction of public operating system in coastal passenger shipping business to secure the public and safety. There are many practical constraints but if we obtain public sea ways, it will be possible to improve the operating system through the implementation from a subsidized line and taking off business licenses of an insolvent enterprise by enhancing safety control.

연안 항해 중소형 선박을 위한 운영 및 유지보수(O&M) 지원 서비스 아키텍처 설계

  • 차도선과 같은 연안 화물 여객선에는 필수 탑재 항해통신장비 이외에 유지보수 지원이나 운항 효율 향상을 위한 장비는 거의 탑재 되어 있지 않은 상황으로 ICT 기술 기반 운영 및 유지보수(O&M, operating and maintenance) 지원 서비스 제공 시스템 도입이 필요하다. 이에 중소형 선박 기자재의 데이터 수집, 통합, 분석을 통해 선박 관리, 유지보수 지원, 운항 모니터링 등의 스마트 O&M 서비스를 제공하기 위한 시스템의 개발을 진행 중에 있다. 개발하는 시스템은 빅데이터 분석 기술, 모바일 어플리케이션 개발 기술, 증강현실(AR) 기술을 기반으로 선박을 구성하는 요소의 상태 모니터링, 최적 관리, 원격 유지보수 지원 등의 서비스를 제공할 예정이다. 또한, 클라우드 기반 육해상 통합 O&M 서비스 지원 시스템의 개발을 통해 선단 단위 분석, 중소형 해운선사 소모품 관리 및 운영 지원 등 종합적인 부가 서비스를 제공하는 것이 목적이다. 이러한 시스템의 개발이 완료되면, 실선 시험을 통해 개발 시스템과 서비스의 유용성을 검증할 계획이다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 O&M 지원을 위한 시스템에 관해 소개하고, 앞서 언급한 각종 서비스를 제공하기 위한 선박 및 육상 측 구성요소 정의와 서비스 아키텍처의 설계에 관한 내용을 다룬다.

Assessment of Water Piling-up behind a Submerged Breakwater during Storm Events (단기 태·폭풍 기인 잠제 배후의 Piling-up 현상 평가)

  • It is generally known that submerged breakwaters can reduce the incoming wave energy without disturbing the beach scenery. However, a submerged breakwater is also able to cause a setup of the sea level in the protected area which is also called as water piling-up. Since the piling-up can result in longshore currents, sediment transports, and unexpected beach erosion, understanding about the piling-up process is required prior to designing the nearshore structures. In this study, the water piling-up behind a submerged breakwater is assessed in the time of storm events. For the study area, Anmok beach in Gyeonso-dong, Gangwon-do is selected. 1-year, 5-year, 10-year, and 50-year return-values were derived from Peaks-Over-Threshold(POT) method and those are applied as offshore boundary conditions for the numerical simulation. The numerical results of the piling-up were assessed with regard to the wave steepness and the height of the submerged breakwater. With increase of both significant wave height and the height of the submerged breakwater, the piling-up parameter is also increased which can lead to erosion of dry beach behind the structure.

  • A simple and useful plane strain testing device was newly developed and its mechanical features were presented in this paper. The new testing device was designed to be capable of testing various stress paths expected under plane strain condition with only the conventional triaxial loading system. The applicability of the new testing device was systematically checked both by theoretical evaluation and by experiments. As a result, it was found that the new testing device has much wider range of application than the conventional plane strain testing devices.

Path Prediction and Suggestion of Efficient Collection Points for Marine Plastic Debris Based on Betweenness Centrality Analysis (매개 중심성을 이용한 해양 플라스틱 폐기물의 경로 예측 및 효율적인 수거지점 제안)

  • Korea severely suffers from plastic-induced ocean pollution, but only few studies predicted the trajectory of marine plastic debris and provided their collection method. This study used Ocean Surface CURrent Simulator (OSCURS) of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in order to predict the trajectories of marine plastic debris flowing into the East Sea and Yellow Sea for each season during 2004 to 2013. Results suggest that efficient collection hubs through the high betweenness centrality index. Most hubs were located in the seashores regardless of season, suggesting the seashore of Uljin for the East Sea and the seashore between Saemangeum and Shinan for the Yellow Sea as the most efficient hubs.

Sensitivity Analysis in the Prediction of Coastal Erosion due to Storm Events: case study-Ilsan beach (태풍 기인 연안침식 예측의 불확실성 분석: 사례연구-일산해변)

  • In coastal morphological modelling, there are a number of input factors: wave height, water depth, sand particle size, bed friction coefficients, coastal structures and so forth. Measurements or estimates of these input data may include uncertainties due to errors by the measurement or hind-casting methods. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the uncertainty of each input data and the range of the uncertainty during the evaluation of numerical results. In this study, three uncertainty factors are considered with regard to the prediction of coastal erosion in Ilsan beach located in Ilsan-dong, Ulsan metropolitan city. Those are wave diffraction effect of XBeach model, wave input scenario and the specification of the coastal structure. For this purpose, the values of mean wave direction, significant wave height and the height of the submerged breakwater were adjusted respectively and the followed numerical results of morphological changes are analyzed. There were erosion dominant patterns as the wave direction is perpendicular to Ilsan beach, the higher significant wave height, and the lower height of the submerged breakwater. Furthermore, the rate of uncertainty impacts among mean wave direction, significant wave height and the height of the submerged breakwater are compared. In the study area, the uncertainty influence by the wave input scenario was the largest, followed by the height of the submerged breakwater and the mean wave direction.

Using the Gyeong-in Ara Waterway to Revitalize Coastal Shipping (연안해운 활성화 측면에서의 경인아라뱃길 활용 방안)

  • Many countries are developing transportation technologies aimed at reducing environmental pollution and the environmental burden. For example, environmentally friendly transportation routes and methods are being used to improve inland waterways in Europe. Against this backdrop, a case study was conducted on special cargo (weight cargo, earth and sand, etc.) on Korea's Gyeong-In Ara Waterway, an inland waterway connecting the Han River and the West Sea, serving a distribution function. The results of the analysis showed that coastal shipping could be promoted using the waterway, including a positive synergy among environmental, economic, and social aspects. That is, by shifting from overland transportation to marine transportation, it is possible to reduce environmental pollution, ease traffic congestion, decrease traffic accidents, and shorten the licensing period for the weight cargo demand of the northern area of the Han River. In this respect, the Gyeong-in Ara Waterway could become an environmentally friendly transportation route, promoting coastal shipping in Korea. However, for this to occur, support systems such as subsidies for marine transportation and using the inland waterway are required, as happens in the EU. Furthermore, existing policies to promote coastal shipping should be improved and applied more broadly.

Performance Assessment of Navigation Seakeeping for Coastal Liquified-Natural-Gas Bunkering Ship (연안선박용 LNG 벙커링 전용선박의 내항성능 평가에 대한 연구)

  • Through the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, South Korea is trying to support the "Building Project for Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) Bunkering Ship," centered on the Korea Gas Corporation, while the Ministry of Maritime Af airs and Fisheries is pushing to construct an LNG bunkering terminal at Busan New Port. LNG bunkering ships are essential for supplying LNG fuel from the terminal to the ships, resulting in the need for safety operation procedures. Therefore, in this study, the stability of a coastal LNG bunkering ship operating from Busan New Port to the anchorage in Busan Port was assessed to investigate the need for operational procedures for coastal LNG bunkering ships. Seakeeping analysis of the LNG bunkering ship was performed for each significant wave height by combining the response amplitude operator from the ship motion analysis under the potential flow theory with the actual observed sea data for five years and Texel, Marsen, and Arsloe (TMA) spectrum suitable for the Busan coast. The results showed that the roll and horizontal acceleration were the main risks that affected the navigation seakeeping performance above a significance wave height of 2 m. The operational periods of the LNG bunkering ship ranged from 83.3% to 99.9% of the total observation period.
