In this study, elementary mathematics textbooks from grade 1 to grade 6 of Korea and Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture are compared. This study is limited to number area. In this study, textbooks of Korea are developed according to the 2007 curriculum and published between 2009 and 2011 and textbooks of Yanbian are published between 2009 and 2010. Seven implications for developing Korean textbooks can be drew from Yanbian textbooks as conclusions. First, it is necessary to consider using counters to teach place values. Second, it is necessary to consider reading inequalities in style of one to one correspondence between signs and words. Third, it is necessary to consider mentioning explicitly that it is possible to express the concrete whole which has a continuous quantity as natural number 1. Fourth, it is necessary to consider introducing term of fraction line that separates the numerator and denominator. Fifth, it is necessary to consider mentioning explicitly the properties of the fraction. Sixth, it is necessary to consider broadening examples to use decimals. Seventh, it is necessary to consider stating clearly that it is possible to make an additional place of decimals by adding a zero at the right end of the decimals.

Chinese mathematical curriculum is divided 4 areas(number and algebra, space and figure, statistics and probability, practice and synthetic application). The purpose of this paper is to analyze the contents of the practice and synthetic application in yanbian elementary textbook. For this, 12-textbook which was published in yeonbeon a publishing company is analyze by topic, mathematical process, area of content and mathematical activity. mathematical process The following results have been drawn from this study. First, contextual backgrounds of practice are restricted in classroom. The contents of synthetic application are limited in connection of mathematical areas. Mathematical problem solving is a main in mathematical process, whereas reasoning activity is a few. Mathematical experience activity is a main in mathematical process, whereas synthetic activity is a few. We can use the suggestions of this paper for development of textbook and the contents of mathematical process.

Korea and Japan are close countries having a mutual influence on history and have similar cultural and educational circumstances. The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the textbooks for elementary school mathematics between Korea and Japan. First, it established the theoretical backgrounds through the precedent research comparing the mathematic textbooks between South Korea and North Korea, Korea and India, Yanbian in China, Japan( Fraction part in numeral field. The Plane Figures). Next, it compared and analyzed two countries'(Korea and Japan) textbooks regarding the structural system and concept of units on the basis of the theoretical research. And it included more specific and detail contents in comparison of Korean with Japanese mathematic textbooks focused on the 5, 6th grade.
