  • Recently, due to the enormous cost for sending a satellite into an orbit, small and more reliable satellites have been more demanded. An introduction of new binders(HTPB, GAP) and new oxidizers made great improvements of the large thrust modulation. In order to make cost reduction, one prefers to the low melting temperature thermoplastic propellant reforming the manufacturing process dramatically. Solid propellant rockets have been had a problem of the injection accuracy into orbit, but PBS(Post Boost Stage) using a liquid mono-propellant improves the injection accuracy. This paper also gives the direction of the advanced nozzle materials and the motor case.

  • A subscale gas generator was designed and manufactured to investigate the effect of design parameters on discharge coefficients of injectors for a 75 ton-class gas generator and hot-firing tests were successfully performed. The test results showed that discharge coefficients of fuel and liquid oxygen injectors remained nearly constant irrespective of variations of a mixture ratio and a chamber pressure. When the post diameter of the liquid oxygen injector was reduced, the discharge coefficient was increased as the pressure drop of the injector was decreased.

  • A Propulsion System of the CRW(Canard Rotor Wing) type UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) was composed of the turbojet engine to generate the propulsive exhaust gas, and the duct system including main and rotary ducts, the nozzle subsystem including main and tip jet nozzle for three flight modes such as lift/landing mode, low speed transition flight mode and high speed forward flight mode. Transient simulation performance utilized the ICV (Inter-component volume) method and simulated using the SIMULINK. Transient performance analysis was performed on 3 cases. Fuel flow schedules to accelerate from Idle to maximum rotational speed were divided into the step increase of the most severe case and ramp increase cases to avoid the overshoot of turbine inlet temperature, and variations of thrust and the turbine inlet temperature were investigated in some transient analysis cases.

  • This paper presents a numerical investigation on detonation of a kerosene-air mixture in the copper tube and the structural response associated with combustion instability in liquid rocket engine. A single step Arrehnius rate law and Johnson-Cook strength model are used to describe the chemical reaction of kerosene-air mixture detonation and the plastic deformation of the copper tube. The changes of flow field and tube stress which are induced by plastic deformation, are investigated on the different tube thicknesses and nozzle configurations.

  • Ignition and combustion performance of a gas-turbine engine were changed by various high-altitude condition. A goal of this study is to make the small test facility to simulate high-altitude condition. To perform the low pressure condition, a diffuser was used in various diffuser front of primary nozzle pressure. To perform the low temperature, heat exchanger was used in various mixture ratio of cryogenic air and ambient temperature air. The experimental result shows that high-altitude conditions can be controled by diffuser front of primary nozzle pressure and mixture ratio of cryogenic air and ambient temperature air.

  • An experimental investigation of the heat transfer characteristics of stretched premixed flames using Synthetic gas has been performed. Hydrogen and carbon mon-oxide which could be extracted from coal gasification process are the main fuel of synthetic-gas. Heat flux at the stagnation point was increased as global strainrate was increased, then the heat flux was decreased when a global strainrate reached a sudden point. Heat flux at the stagnation point is also affected by nozzle to impingement distance. Heat flux was increased as nozzle to impingement place distance was increased. This study is a foundation study of practical use of secondary gases from coals.

  • In this paper, we implemented the prevention of oil mixing accidents caused by stereotypes or novice drivers at gas stations. After the CO gas concentration of the fuel tank is measured using the MQ-9 gas sensor, the gasoline and diesel are distinguished from each other. This is decided by using a servomotor to lock of the fueling nozzle to prevent the mixing of oil. In addition, car washes time display is implemented by using infrared sensor to save the time and to provide convenience for customers who want to wash car after fueling.

  • Operation area of corps was expanded under military reformation, and extending range of 155 mm howitzer became important issue. New approach is needed to extend range to 80 kim. Ramjet engine is air breathing engine, and it can provide specific impulse several times more than solid rocket motor so that range is extended using same weight of propellant. If the ramjet engine is gun-launched system, it does not require any other booster because muzzle velocity is near Mach 3. Especially solid fuel ramjet (SFRJ) does not have any moving part so that it is favorable for gun-launching system which is under high stress during launching. In this paper, we design air intake, combustion chamber, and nozzle of 155 mm gun launched ramjet propelled artillery shell with inviscid flow assumption. We conduct parameter study to have range more than 80 km, and maximum high explosive volume.

  • In case of a gas turbine engine for supersonic operation, the engine have a wide range of operating inlet mass flow rate and required high performance such as thrust and fuel consumption. Therefore, variable system and its optimal control logic are essentially needed. In this work, a method for performance prediction of a gas turbine engine with variable system compressor and its control scheme were developed. Conceptual design of compact acuation system for the operation of the variable system was also conducted. The performance of a low-bypass ratio mixed flow turbofan engine was analyzed, and it was observed that the surge margin of the engine is improved at off-design condition by applying the control scheme.

  • Cooling of hot sections, especially the turbine nozzle and rotor blades, has a significant impact on gas turbine performance. In this study, the influence of precooling of the cooling air on the performance of gas turbines and their combined cycle plants was investigated. A state-of-the-art F-class gas turbine was selected, and its design performance was deliberately simulated using detailed component models including turbine blade cooling. Off-design analysis was used to simulate changes in the operating conditions and performance of the gas turbines due to precooling of the cooling air. Thermodynamic and aerodynamic models were used to simulate the performance of the cooled nozzle and rotor blade. In the combined cycle plant, the heat rejected from the cooling air was recovered at the bottoming steam cycle to optimize the overall plant performance. With a 200K decrease of all cooling air stream, an almost 1.78% power upgrade due to increase in main gas flow and a 0.70 percent point efficiency decrease due to the fuel flow increase to maintain design turbine inlet temperature were predicted.
