  • This study examined the relative effects of positive and negative reinforcement on customer service behaviors. In addition, we examined whether the intervention would lead to response generalization on non-target behaviors. Five employees at three different convenient stores participated and ABC/ACB within-subject design was adopted. For the three participants, followed by the baseline(A), the positive reinforcement was first introduced(B) and the negative reinforcement(C) was introduced for the next phase. For the remaining two participants, the negative reinforcement(C) was first introduced after baseline(A) and the positive reinforcement (B) was introduced. Results showed a greater improvement in target behaviors under the positive reinforcement condition than that of the negative reinforcement condition. In addition, both reinforcement condition cause response generalization on non-targeted service behaviors, however, the comparable effects was found between two reinforcement conditions. Post-interview indicated that participants experienced positive emotions under positive reinforcement condition and negative emotions under negative reinforcement condition. These results suggest that the he techniques using positive reinforcement can be more effective and efficient to improve the work performance.

  • Previous researches of organizational citizenship behavior have been focused mainly on organizations, and there have been only a few studies on the organizational citizenship behavior of nonprofit organizations. In particular, few empirical studies have been made on the relations among variables affecting the organizational citizenship behavior of profit and nonprofit organizations. Thus, this study attempted comparative analysis. According to the result of the analysis, in profit organizations, the fairness of procedure, emotional commitment and continuous commitment had a significant effect on organizational citizenship behavior, as well as the fairness of distribution and perception of organizational support. In nonprofit organizations, on the contrary, the fairness of distribution, the fairness of procedure, and perception of organizational support were insignificant, and only emotional commitment and continuous commitment had a significant effect on organizational citizenship behavior. This study is meaningful in that it comparatively analyzed the effects of organization members' perception of fairness on organizational citizenship behavior in profit and nonprofit organizations, and its outcome may be utilized as a reference in future researches but it has a problem in external validity that poses a limitation in its generalization.

  • Organizational citizenship behaviors(OCB) are discretionary behaviors of employees, which go beyond that which is required, and are known to be contributing factors of organizational performance. When a supply chain management(SCM) system is implemented, organizational knowledge concerning the global standards, process innovation and key performance indicators(KPI) is also spread out across different, disconnected silos, thus increasing the absorptive and innovative capacity of employees. Therefore, OCB may be an important antecedent to successful operation of supply chain. This paper examines the causal relationships among absorptive capacity of employees, organizational citizenship, SCM performance and intention to innovate in global manufacturing corporations in Korea. Empirical results from 122 survey responses indicate that the organizational citizenship affects the level of SCM performance and absorptive capacity, which, in turn, influences SCM performance. As expected, SCM performance has been found to affect intention to innovate, but absorptive capacity has no impact on intention to innovate. As a conclusion, the academic and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

  • In this study, we measured customers' perception of organization citizenship behaviors of employees which are known as the important factor for improving performance of companies, and examined the path relationship among related variables such as service quality, customer satisfaction, trust, and positive word of mouth. Although there have been many studies of OCB in the marketing field, the majority of these studies measured employee's OCB from the organization's perspective. This study has extended the prior studies by measuring employee's OCB from the customer's perspective. Customers of beauty salons and public houses were researched such that OCB may be applied to more various customer contact situations. The result is as follows. First, employees's OCB had a direct effect on perceived service quality and trust, and had an indirect effect on customer satisfaction. It means that customers evaluate the service quality of employees and trust frontline employees when they observed employees helping other organizational members, orientated customer facilitation beyond the regulated role and showed positive attitudes for their organization. As a result, customers feel more satisfied. Secondly, OCB had an indirect effect on positive word of mouth through mediation of service quality, satisfaction, and trust. Finally, consumer facilitation had the largest effect on consumer attitude among three dimensions of OCB-consumer facilitation, organization involvement, and sportsmanship. We understood the relationship between frontline employee's OCB and customer attitudes, and the necessity of multidimensional approach in measuring employee's OCB from the customer's perspective.

  • This study empirically analyzes the impact of role stress, user misconduct, and job satisfaction on turnover intention by categorizing turnover intention into workplace turnover intention and occupational turnover intention among academic librarians working at national, public, and private universities across South Korea. Data were collected through a survey conducted from September 13 to September 20, 2023, yielding 447 responses, which were subsequently analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. The results revealed that role ambiguity and severe user misconduct (physical threats) positively influenced both workplace turnover intention and occupational turnover intention, while age negatively influenced both. The study found that librarians who experience unclear responsibilities and physical threats are more likely to have a strong intention to leave both their workplace and occupation. As differential factors, role overload and the location of the workplace in the metropolitan area were found to be significant. Role overload positively influenced only occupational turnover intention, while the metropolitan location negatively influenced only workplace turnover intention. These findings suggest that excessive workload increases doubt about the occupation itself, leading to consideration of occupational turnover and that librarians working outside the metropolitan area exhibit higher workplace turnover intention. Both intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction negatively influenced workplace and occupational turnover intention. These results indicate that differentiated strategies tailored to specific types of turnover intention are warranted to effectively manage turnover intention among academic librarians.

  • In order to achieve the results that are appropriate for the purpose of the enterprise, it is important to comprehensively understand the behaviors within the roles of the members of the organization and actions outside the roles. However, there have been relatively few studies on corporate social responsibility (CSR) among the existing studies that have been conducted to date. In particular, organizational citizenship behavior, a voluntary commitment by organizational members, is perceived as a very effective way of enhancing corporate performance, but studies on organizational citizenship behavior based on corporate social responsibility have rarely been conducted. In recent years, domestic companies have recognized social responsibility as an activity rather than an additional activity. Therefore, it is very meaningful to look at the organizational performance by examining the factors that make up this social responsibility from the perspective of the company. It is considered a task. In order to demonstrate this, this study collected 303 data from a business incubator center operated by universities and public institutions nationwide and used a total of 303 samples. As a result of the verification, the wages received by the members of the organization did not affect the organizational commitment, and the working hours and the working environment affected the organizational commitment. In addition, corporate social responsibility has an effect on organizational trust in the marketing side. Organizational commitment and organizational trust were studied to positively affect organizational citizenship behavior. In addition, this study divides the degree of perception of social responsibility of the organizational members into the high recognition group and the low recognition group and analyzed whether there is a difference in the level of organizational citizenship behavior according to the employment type (regular and irregular workers) The results of this study are as follows.

  • This article analyzes film performances in the Korean movie market utilizing three-stage models that incorporate available information in three different stages of the movie life cycle, i.e., at the time of its release, at the end of the first week, and at the end of its life cycle. Based on the premise that the performance of a movie is affected principally by factors of scale, evaluation, and competition, we attempted to ascertain the effects on these factors on performances, and how they differ in different stages. Also, by analyzing domestic and foreign movies released in Korea separately, we were able to compare the different effects of the three factors on the performances of the two categories of movies. Additionally, our movie performance models incorporated herding behavior among the customers. Our results demonstrate that herding is prominently observed after the first week only for domestic movies. In general, the scale factor has been shown to be most important for movie performances in all stages. For foreign films, it is particularly critical for the first week and total performances. Whereas the evaluation factor influences domestic film performance more strongly at the screen choice stage, it affects the performance of foreign films more strongly in the later stages of the life cycle. As compared to foreign films, domestic film performance appears to be more sensitive to the competition factor. We also discuss the effects of covariates such as genre and symbolicity on movie performance.

  • An outbreak of the onion thrips, Thrips tabaci, was observed in welsh onion cultured in greenhouse during winter season (Jan ~ Feb). The thrips was identified using DNA barcode. Weekly occurrence was around 240 ~ 700 adults per trap. Trap color gave significant influence on the capture efficiency with a preference on yellow compared to blue sticky trap. Subsequently, most (> 90%) onions exhibited a damage symptom induced by the thrips. This outbreak was observed only in a specific area but not in nearby greenhouses. This discontinuous occurrence pattern was further investigated by analyzing flight behavior through in- and out- door tests. About 1.5 mm-body length adults could jump up to about 5 cm and fly up to 2 m in altitude, which was the top of the greenhouse. This suggested their migrating potential to nearby (< 2 m) greenhouses. However, few were detected in the neighboring places probably due to physical hindrance with low temperatures between greenhouses. This is reasoned why the onion thrips forms a patch distribution among greenhouses during winter season.

  • The current study investigated whether in-group bias affects 5- to 6-year-old children's resource-allocation decisions. In Experiment 1, participants were asked to allocate 10 stickers between a friend (an in-group member) and a stranger (an out-group member). Children allocated significantly more stickers to friends than to strangers, suggesting that they made distributive decisions in favor of their in-group members, when they were not the beneficiary of a resource-allocation. In Experiment 2, we examined whether being one of the recipients in the resource-allocation game would affect children's decisions. The procedure was identical to that of Experiment 1 except that participants were asked to allocate stickers between themselves and a friend or a stranger. The children showed selfish distributions regardless of recipients. These results indicate that when children become one of the recipients in a resource-allocation, their self-interests override their preference for in-group members.
