  • In this paper, the control technique of the stepping motor using back electromotive force(B-EMF) without encoder is investigated. The stepping motor generally uses the rotary encoder to detect the rotor position. Since this method increases the cost and the motor configuration size, the new closed-loop control method applied for the B-EMF was implemented by using current detect circuit, AD-converter, and micro controller unit(MCU). The control loop of stepping motor became very simplified. The current change of stepping motor measured by the amplifier was measured and analyzed, when the missing step is occurred. Based on the data from current feedback, position errors were compensated and confirmed by using AD-converter.

  • A PMSG in variable speed wind turbine needs to know the position of rotor for vector control. Since the position sensor has the disadvantage in terms of cost, complexity of the system, a sensorless algorithm is needed. The sensorless strategy using the back EMF estimation is used for PMSG Wind Turbine. This algorithm is comparatively easy to implement than other strategies. This paper introduces the application of stable sensorless control for 2MW direct drive PMSG. In order to confirm the sensorless algorithm, the implementation is proceeded using 2MW direct drive PMSG from no-load condition to full-load condition. To drive 2MW PMSG artificially, 2MW PMSG connected PMSG through the mechanical coupling.

  • This paper proposes a novel sensorless control scheme for a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) by using a parallel reduced-order Extended Kalman Filter. The proposed scheme can obtain rotor position and speed by back-EKF that is estimated by reduced-order ETD and save computation time great)y due to using a parallel structure that works by turns every sampling time. Therefore, proposed scheme has merits of conventional EKF, and problems of parameter sensitivity are partially overcome. And proposed scheme can safely estimate rotor speed and position by using new algorithms according to driving regions. Experimental results show the validity of the proposed estimation technique, and to verify the merit of the proposed scheme, a comparison of a new reduced-order EKF algorithm with a conventional EKF algorithm has been also made in terms of computation time.

  • The BLDC(Brushless DC) Motor is characterized by linear torque to current and speed to voltage. It has low acoustic noise and fast dynamic response. Moreover, it has high power density with high proportion of torque to inertia in spite of small size drive. However, when armature current is commutated, the current ripple is generated by the motor inductance components in stator windings and back-EMF. This current ripple caused to torque ripple. Therefore, it is difficult to apply the BLDC motor to a precision servo drive system. In this paper, a new current control algorithm using fourier series coefficients is proposed. This proposed algorithm can minimize torque ripple due to the phase current commutation of BLDC motor. Simulation and Experimental results prove the effectiveness at the Proposed algorithm through comparison with the conventional unipolar PWM method.

  • This paper presents a new rotor position estimation method for brushless DC motors. It is clear that the estimation error of the rotor position provokes the phase shift angle misaligned between the phase current and the back-EMF waveforms, which causes torque ripple in brushless DC motor drives. Such an estimation error can be reduced with the help of the proposed neutral voltage-based estimation method that is structured in the form of a closed loop observer. A neutral voltage appearing during the normal mode of the inverter operation is found to be an observable and controllable measure, which can be dealt with for estimating an exact rotor position. This neutral voltage is obtained from the DC-link current, the switching logic, and the motor speed values. The proposed algorithm, which can be implemented easily by using a single DC-link current and the motor terminal voltage sensors, is verified by simulation and experiment results.

  • This paper investigates the field weakening operation of a five-phase permanent magnet motor. The proposed motor has concentrated windings such that the produced back-EMF is almost trapezoidal and is supplied with the combined sinusoidal plus third harmonic of currents to produce trapezoidal current. Therefore this motor, while generating the same average torque as an equivalent permanent magnet brushless dc motor, overcomes its disadvantages. It is shown that torque producing and flux producing components of current for this motor can be decoupled by using multiple reference frame transformation. Therefore, Vector control is easily applicable to the motor. This motor has benefits such as high torque density of a BLDC motor below the rated speed and controllability of PMSM above the rated speed and during the field weakening region and simulation and experimental results are provided to prove the validity of the superior performance of this drive.

  • Brushless DC Motor(BLDCM) has high efficiency. But this type of motor needs a rotor sensor which complicates the motor configuration. Rotor position sensor degrades system reliability in the severe environmental condition. In this paper, we study a controller which permits the determination of the rotor position by the back EMF to eliminate the rotor position sensor Also, since the back EMF is zero at standstill, a starting technique which permits the starting of an asynchronous motor without a sensor is described. The controller is implemented using microcontroller for minimal external component.

  • This study have established proper mathematical equivalent model of Brushless DC (BLDC) motor and estimated the motor parameter by means of the back-emf measurement as being the step input to the controlled target BLDC motor. And the validity of proposed estimation method is confirmed by the test result of step response. As well, we have designed the reasonable digital controller as a consequence of the root locus method which is obtained from the open-loop transfer function of BLDC motor with hall sensor, and the determination of control gain for variable speed control. Here, revised Ziegler-Nichols tuning method is applied for the proper digital gain establishment, and the system stability is verified by the frequency domain analysis with Bode-plot and experimentation.

  • Brushless Direct Current(BLDC) Motor is essential to measure a rotor position because of that this motor type needs to synchronize the rotor's position and changeover phase current instead of a brush and commutator used on the existing dc motor. Recently, many researches have studied on sensorless control drive for BLDC motor. The conventional control methods are a compensation value dq, Kalman filter, Fuzzy logic, Neurons neural network, and the like. These methods has difficulties of detecting BEMF accurately at low speed because of low BEMF voltage and switching noise. And also, the operation is long and complex. So, it is required a high-performance microprocessor. Therefore, it is not suitable for a small BLDC motor sensorless drive. This paper presents control methods suitable for economic small BLDC motor sensorless drive which are an improved design of the BEMF detection circuit, simplifying a complex algorithm and computation time reduction. The improved motor sensorless drive is verified stability and validity through being designed, manufactured and analyzed.
