Effect of EGR on power and exhaust emissions in diesel engine (디젤엔진의 출력 및 배기가스에 미치는 EGR의 영향)

  • Diesel engines are widely used due to superior power and fuel consumption, however there are many challenges in exhaust gas management. Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) is the most effective technique for reducing mono-nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions in a diesel engine, in comparison with other catalytic technologies. In addition, the technology has a number of advantages in terms of economic efficiency and implementation. In this study, the effects on the power and exhaust characteristics of diesel engines equipped with EGR systems were investigated. It was found that as the EGR rate increased, horsepower expressed as IHP and BHP decreased. The net effect of the application of EGR was measured at various engine speeds. EGR technology caused decreases in BHP of around 9% during low engine speed and 3.5% during high engine speed. Additionally, NOx emissions reduced as the EGR rate increased, and increased as engine speed increased. However, smoke emissions increased as the EGR rate increased, and decreased as engine speed increased. The optimum operating conditions and ERG rate to simultaneously achieve minimum NOx and smoke emissions were investigate. It was found that as the EGR rate increased, optimal operating speed for minimal NOx and smoke also increased.   • The variable speed engine generator set is interested for an isolated power system due to reduced fuel consumption and less emission. However, because of sluggish dynamic behavior of the internal combustion engine the power quality would be degraded during the sudden load power surge, where the power required by the load is not available by the engine due to the reduced engine speed. An isolated power system based on variable speed engine with a super-capacitor bank can improve dynamic characteristics under such a sudden load change, and power quality, fuel consumption, and pollutants can be improved remarkably. Also, it is verified by the computer simulation that the inverter of 3phase-4leg is compatible to the isolated power system with unbalanced load. In this paper, the feasibility of the system has been verified based on a 26kw commercial diesel engine system.

Economical Evaluation of a LNG Dual Fuel Vehicle Converted from 12L Class Diesel Engine (12리터급 경유엔진을 개조한 LNG혼소 화물자동차의 경제성 분석)

  • It was measured engine power, specific fuel consumption and exhaust emissions to analyze fuel economy between LNG dual fuel vehicle and base diesel one. The tested LNG dual fuel engine is converted from diesel engine having 12 liter heavy duty class. The power of LNG dual fuel engine is 5% lower than diesel one and the engine efficiency is also lower than diesel case. However the exhaust emission of diesel engine such as PM, NOx, CO and $CO_2$ showed higher than that of LNG duel fuel case except NMHC component. And economical analysis were carried out two cases for an aspect of fuel economy and environmental benefit. As a result, LNG dual fuel vehicle gives some economic benefit to whom both business party and public side respectively though considering the subsidy and price discount for diesel.

  • Hydrogen-natural gas blends(HCNG) engine is optimizing technology of performance and emission characteristics with use of hydrogen's fast flame speed and wide flammability limit. As lean-burn limit is extended, the improvement in thermal efficiency and harmful emissions can be achieved. However, the extension of lean-burn limit under a wide open throttle operation point could be realized with the increase in boosting capacity in a lean-burn engine with turbo-charging system. In the present study, the power output characteristics of HCNG engine with turbo-charger change is assessed and feasibility of the increase in boosting capacity is evaluated. The turbo-charger design with high efficiency at higher flow rate rather than higher boosting pressure makes efficient operation possible at relatively rich mixture condition.

  • This paper deals with an optimal output tracking control for open-cycle liquid propellant rocket engine. For this purpose, we modeled simplified mathematical model of open-cycle liquid propellant rocket engine and designed optimal output feedback control system using combustion chamber pressure. For design the closed-loop system of open-cycle liquid propellant rocket engine, we designed optimal output feedback linear quadratic tracking control system using the linearized model and demonstrated the performance of the controller through numerical simulation.

  • 본 논문에서는 주철 라이너를 삽입한 알루미늄 블럭 엔진 개발과정에서 주조 불량이 발생하였을때, 냉각계에 일어나는 제반 현상을 분석하고, 이를 해결해 나가는 과정을 기술하였다. 이를 위하여 주철 블럭과 알루미늄 블럭을 장착한 엔진의 피스톤 온도와 블럭의 열유속, 열정산을 측정하였다. 측정한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 알루미늄 블럭 제작시 주철 라이너와 알루미늄 블럭 사이에 공기층이 크거나, 용탕 충진이 불완전한 주조 불량이 발생하면 열접촉 저항이 커져 엔진 열전달 경로에 큰 영향을 준다. 2. 알루미늄 블럭 제작시 주조 불량이 발생하면 피스톤에서 라이너로의 전열량이 줄어듦에 따라 냉각수로의 전열량은 감소하는데, 6,000rpm, 전부하에서 알루미늄 블럭의 출력 대비 냉각수로의 방열량의 비는 38.3%이고, 주철 블럭은 44.1%이다. 3. 알루미늄 블럭 제작시 주조 불량이 발생하면, 피스톤 온도가 15-20.deg.C 정도 상승하여 피스톤 손상을 유발시킬 수 있다. 4. 알루미늄 블럭의 주조가 완벽하게 되어 주철 라이너와 알루미늄 몸체 사이에서의 열접촉저항이 없어지면, 스토로크 방향에 따른 금속면 온도 분포가 균일하게 된다. 5. 실린더 라이너의 주조상태 개선없이 오일젯을 사용한 결과 피스톤의 온도를 만족할 만한 수준으로 감소시켰다. 6. 6000rpm, 전부하에서 오일젯 적용시 출력 대비 냉각수로의 방열량의 비가 38.3%에서 36.2%로 감소하고, 출력대비 오일로의 방열량의 비는 9.6%에서 11.2%로 증가한다. 7. 오일젯 작용시 오일 펌프의 용량 증대와 오일 쿨러의 장착이 필수적이다.

  • 선박경제운항이란 파도와 바람과 같은 해양 기상정보 예측을 바탕으로 선박의 운항방법에 따른 연료 소모량과 운항시간을 예상해보고, 가장 경제적인 운항을 하는 것을 말한다. 본 논문에서는 실용화할 수 있는 범용의 경제운항시스템 개발에 중점을 두었다. 기존의 시스템들을 살펴보면 임의의 정해진 경로를 대상으로 실험하는 경우가 많은데, 이를 개선하여 임의의 출발점과 도착점이 주어지면 A*알고리즘을 통해서 지리상 최단경로를 찾아내도록 하여 시스템을 자동화하였으며 적용범위를 세계 전역으로 확대 하였다. 그리고 기존의 엔진출력을 고정하거나 속력을 일정하게 운항한다는 가정에서 벗어나서 엔진출력을 탐색하여 보다 효율적인 운항 솔루션을 찾아내도록 하였다. 그리고 사용측면에서는 운항사들에게 보다 효용성 높은 시스템이 되기 위해서, 일방적인 권고보다는 연료소모량과 운항시간 별로 다양한 솔루션들을 제공하여 운항사의 판단을 존중함과 동시에 운항보조시스템으로서의 역할에 충실할 수 있도록 하였다.

  • 이상 소개한 바와 같이 미쓰비시의 경우 현상의 기술로서도 실린더내 분사는 4l 클래스 엔진까지 확대가능하고 앞으로 더욱 엄격해질 배출가스의 규제와 저연비의 요구로 디젤엔진에 대신하여 소형트럭에까지 탑제가 확대될 것으로 추측된다. 그리고 이와 같은 초희박연소에 의한 저연비와 체적효율 향상에 따른 고출력의 양립은 지구환경보호측면에서도 크게 기대할 새로운 기술의 개가라 할수 있을 것이다.

  • 디지털콘텐츠 여러 분야 가운데 '게임 분야'는 이미 상당한 수준에 이르렀다는 평가를 받고 있다. 하지만 현재에 만족하지 않고 발전하기 위해서는 업계의 정보공유와 보다 발전된 테크놀로지가 뒷받침돼야 할 것이다. 2003년 4월호부터 8회동안 한국전자통신연구원(ETRI) 가상현실연구부의 연구원들이 3D 게임 엔진에 대해 상세하게 소개하는 지면을 기획했다. 국내 온라인게임 개발자들에게 도움이 되었으면 한다.

Influence of Compression Ratio on Engine Performance in Heavy-duty LPG Single-cylinder Engine (대형 LPG 단기통엔진에서 압축비가 기관성능에 미치는 영향)

  • The heavy-duty LPG-fueled single cylinder engine was designed and developed as a fundamental equipment for analyzing combustion processes and emission performances. The cylinder head and the piston crown were modified to fire the LPG in the engine. The flywheel was also fabricated to minimize the vibration of the single cylinder engine. The size of bore and stroke of the tested engine are 130 mm and 140 mm, respectively. Compression ratios were varied 8 to 9 with different piston crown shapes. The developed single cylinder engine operates at 1,000 rpm for this work. The major conclusions of this work are; (1) the power of the developed engine was peaked at the condition of equivalence ratio 1.0 at three different compression ratios; (2) the power is slightly increased with the increase of compression ratio; (3) the optimum ignition timing is retarded with the increase of compression ratio ranged 2 to 10 crank angle.
