Design of Two-dimensional WIG Craft Airfoil at Cruise Condition (WIG선의 순항 조건에 적합한 2차원 에어포일 형상 설계)

  • 20인승 급 소형 위그선의 운항조건을 고려하여 순항 시 WIG선의 양항비를 최대로 할 수 있는 에어포일 형상 설계 기초연구를 수행하였다. WIG선의 순항 받음각 하에서 NACA 4 digit 에어포일의 최대 캠버 위치, 최대 캠버, 두께를 변화 시켜가며 수치해석을 수행하였다. 그 결과 최대캠버 8 미만에서 두께가 두껍고 최대캠버가 클수록 양항비가 높게 나타나는 경향을 확인할 수 있었으며, NACA6412 에어포일이 전반적으로 가장 우수한 양항비를 나타내었다.

Prediction of acoustic power radiated from an airfoil with thickness in turbulent flow (난류 유동장 내 두께를 가지는 단일 에어포일의 음향파워 예측)

  • Present paper deals with turbulence-airfoil interaction noise and mainly investigates the effects of airfoil thickness on the broadband noise spectrum. The acoustic power radiation from an airfoil is predicted using high-order time-domain method, which is based on the computational aeroacoustic technique solving the linear Euler equations. The homogeneous and isotropic turbulence is generated by utilizing the synthetic turbulence modeling based on random particle method. The airfoils taken into consideration are a flat-plate and a NACA0012 airfoil aligned with uniform mean flow. The effects of airfoil thickness on the radiated inflow turbulence noise are investigated by comparing acoustic power spectrum predicted for each airfoil. The comparison of acoustic power spectrum reveals that the airfoil thickness significantly contributes the high frequency noise reduction.

A Comparative Study on Aerodynamic Validation in Design Process of an Airfoil for Megawatt-Class Wind Turbine (메가와트 급 풍력터빈용 에어포일의 설계 단계에서의 공력성능 검증 기법 비교)

  • A comparative study between a wind tunnel test and an XFOIL simulation looking at the aerodynamic performance of the airfoil for MW-class wind turbine was conducted for validation in the design stage. Tests are carried out for 21% and 30% thickness-ratio airfoils developed for 5 ~ 10 MW offshore wind turbine and the results are compared with the output from the XFOIL simulation at Reynolds number $1.0{\times}10^7$. The test is performed at a free-stream velocity of 50 m/s, corresponding to a Reynolds number of $2.2{\times}10^6$ based on the chord. Surface roughness is simulated using a zig-zag tape. Discrepancies between the results of the test and the XFOIL analysis are found, however, meaningful data for surface pressure distribution, basic performance and surface roughness effect are obtained from the tests, while useful lift-to-drag ratio data is found by the XFOIL simulation.

Thrust Characteristics of Dual Flapping Airfoils in a Biplane Configuration (복엽기 배치의 복식 플랩핑 에어포일들의 추력 특성)

  • The wake patterns and thrust characteristics of dual flapping airfoils in a biplane configuration are investigated using an unsteady panel method. To trace complicated wake shapes behind airfoils, a core addition scheme, a vortex core model, and the fourth order Runge-Kutta convection scheme are employed. Present results are verified by comparing them with flow visualization, exact solution and published computed results. The thickness and camber of thick airfoils has an effect of decreasing thrust. The airfoils produce maximum thrust when the phase angles between plunging and pitching motions are both 90 and 120 degrees. Thrust increases as the plunge velocity is increased, which is also found as the pitch amplitude is stepped up. Thrust decreases when the distance between the airfoils is less than 0.6c.

  • Optimal aerodynamic design for the pitch-controlled horizontal axis wind turbine and its aerodynamic performance for various pitch angles are performed numerically by using the blade element momentum theory. The numerical calculation includes effects such as Prandtl‘s tip loss, airfoil distribution, and wake rotation. Six different airfoils are distributed along the blade span, and the special airfoil i.e. airfoil of 40% thickness ratio is adopted at the hub side to have structural integrity. The nonlinear chord obtained from the optimal design procedure is linearized to decrease the weight and to increase the productivity with very little change of the aerodynamic performance. From the comparisons of the power, thrust, and torque coefficients with corresponding values of different pitch angles, the aerodynamic performance shows delicate changes for just $3^{\circ}$ increase or decrease of the pitch angle. For precisive pitch control, it requires the pitch control algorithm and its drive mechanism below $3^{\circ}$ increment of pitch angle. The maximum torque is generated when the speed ratio is smaller than the designed one.

  • 본 연구에서는 임의의 형상의 다중세포 단면을 갖는 복합재료 블레이드에 대한 유한요소 구조해석을 수행하였다. 보 해석 모델은 구조연성 효과와 단면 벽의 두께, 횡 전단변형, 비틀림과 연관된 워핑 및 워핑구속효과 등을 고려하고 있다. 블레이드 힘-변위 관계식은 Reissner의 반복족에너지 함수를 이용한 혼합이론을 적용하여 유도하였다. 이 관계식은 굽힘 및 전단에 대해서는 Timoshenko 보의 형태로 그리고 비틀림 변형은 Vlasov 이론으로 근사하고 있다. 결과적인 [7×7] 구조강성 행렬은 전단변형 및 전단강성계수들을 특이한 가정에 의존하지 않고도 해석적으로 기술하고 있다. 본 정식화 과정을 통해서 구한 보 이론을 이중세포로 구성된 에어포일 형상의 복합재료 블레이드에 적용하였으며, 기존의 실험 연구 및 다차원 유한요소해석 결과들과 비교 연구를 수행하여 본 해석모델의 타당성을 보이고자 하였다.
