Housekeeping genes are expressed in cells of all organisms and perform basic cellular functions such as energy generation, substance synthesis, cell death, and cell defense. Accordingly, the expression levels of housekeeping genes are relatively constant, and thus they are used as reference genes in gene expression studies, such as protein expression and mRNA expression analysis of target genes. However, the levels of expression of these genes may be different among various tissues or cells and may change under certain circumstances. Therefore, it is important to select the best reference gene for specific gene expression research by exploring the stability of housekeeping gene expression. This review summarizes housekeeping genes found in humans, chickens, pigs, and rats in the literature and estimates expression stability using geNorm, NormFinder, and BestKeeper software. The most suitable reference housekeeping gene can selected based on expression stability according to the experimental conditions of the gene expression study and can thus be applied to data normalization.

This study reports on the development and performance verification of cell simulation boards of simulator and the embedded program for board control of the battery management system (BMS) of electric vehicle (EV) cars, which manages the next-generation automotive lithium-ion battery pack. Here, we have improved the speed of the simulator by using operational (OP) amplifier and transistors that were connected in series. In addition, using a digital analog converter (DAC) in each channel, we have improved the performance by channel-to-channel isolation (isolation) as compared to the traditional methods. Furthermore, by constructing a current-limiting protection circuit, one can be protected from disturbance and, by utilizing a precision shunt resistor for the current sensor, we have increased the precision of the current control. In order to verify the performance of the developed simulator, we have performed the experiment 10 times, with values ranging from 0.5 V to 5 V, and a voltage drop step of 0.5 V. Significance analysis of experimental data, and repeatability tests were performed, showing an average standard deviation of 0.001~0.004 V, indicating high repeatability and high statistical significance of the current method and system.

Recently, the installation of energy storage systems (ESSs) has increased in parallel with the extension of renewable energy resources. However, there has been no concrete analysis ofthe performance verification and economic evaluation of ESSs,which makes it difficult to perform aneffective installation and operation of an ESS. In particular, there are no international technical standards and guidelines on electric ESS for frequency regulation applications. Therefore, acomprehensive study on the power quality, impact on grid, extent of contribution, and cost benefit study of ESS are strongly being required. Under these backgrounds, this paper proposes a performance verification algorithm on ESS for frequency regulation application based on ananalysis of the AGC(Automatic Generation Control) performance verification method of PJM in USA. In addition, this paper proposes an economic evaluation algorithm on a 500 MW installation of ESS for frequency regulation applications using the account settlement of an expensive gas-fired generation plant and coal-fired power generation plant. From the simulation with real ESS operation data and 500 MW installation case, it wasconfirmed that the ESS showssuperior performance toany other conventional generators and provides anannual benefit of 500 MW ESS are between 345~429 billon won.

The subsea pipeline has received considerable attention as a high-value-added industry linked to the energy and steel industries including natural resource development. The design and installation of the subsea pipeline require a variety of key technologies to carry out the project. In particular, a thorough pre-verification process through pre-commissioning is essential for the safe operation of the subsea pipeline. The hydrotesting stage in the pre-commissioning process of the subsea pipeline is known to be affected significantly by the ambient temperature change; however, there is a little study based on the theoretical and numerical approach. In this study, the method of predicting the internal temperature change using the transient heat transfer method for the stage of hydrotesting during the pre-commissioning process of the subsea pipeline and the prediction method of the pressure variation in the pipeline using it were proposed. The predicted results were compared with field test results and its effectiveness was verified. The proposed analysis procedure is expected to contribute to the productivity improvement of the subsea pipeline installation project by enabling the prediction of pressure variation through pipeline heat transfer simulation from the initial design stage of the subsea pipeline installation project.

The electronic structure of charge-density-wave (CDW) system $CeTe_2$ has been investigated by using angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). The clearly dispersive band structures are observed in the measured ARPES spectra, indicating the good quality of the single-crystalline sample employed in this study. The four-fold symmetric patterns are observed in the constant energy (CE) mappings, indicating the $2{\times}2$ lattice deformation in the Te(1) sheets. The observed CE images are similar to those of $LaTe_2$, suggesting that Ce 4f states have the minor contribution to the CDW formation in $CeTe_2$. This study reveals that the carriers near the Fermi level should have mainly the Te(1) 5p and Ce 5d character, that the Te(1) 5p bands contribute to the CDW formation, and that the Ce 5d bands cross the Fermi level even in the CDW state.
Characteristics of oxidation reaction of four lanthanide chlorides(Ce, Nd, Pr and $EuCl_3$) in a oxygen-eutectic(LiCl-KCl) salt bubble column was investigated. From the results obtained from the thermochemical calculations by HSC chemistry software, the most stable lanthanide compounds in the oxygen-used rare earth chlorides system were oxychlorides(EuOCl, NdOCl, PrOCl) and oxides($CeO_2$, $PrO_2$), which coincide well with results of the Gibbs free energy of the reaction. In this study, similar to the thermochemical results, regardless of the sparging time and molten salt temperature, oxychlorides for Eu, Nd and Pr and oxides for Ce and Pr were formed as a precipitant by a reaction with oxygen. The structure of the rare earth precipitates was divided into two shapes : small cubic(oxide) and large tetragonal (oxychloride) structures. The conversion efficiencies of the lanthanide elements to their molten salt-insoluble precipitates(or compound) were increased with the sparging time and temperature, and Ce showed the best reactivity. In the conditions of $650^{\circ}C$ of the molten salt temperature and 420 min of the sparging time, the conversion efficiencies were over 99% for all the investigated lanthanide chlorides.
A model for radiological dose assessment in an urban environment, METRO-K has been developed. Characteristics of the model are as follows ; 1) mathematical structures are simple (i.e. simplified input parameters) and easy to understand due to get the results by analytical methods using experimental and empirical data, 2) complex urban environment can easily be made up using only 5 types of basic surfaces, 3) various remediation measures can be applied to different surfaces by evaluating the exposure doses contributing from each contamination surface. Exposure doses contributing from each contamination surface at a particular location of a receptor were evaluated using the data library of kerma values as a function of gamma energy and contamination surface. A kerma data library was prepared fur 7 representative types of Korean urban buildings by extending those data given for 4 representative types of European urban buildings. Initial input data are daily radionuclide concentration in air and precipitation, and fraction of chemical type. Final outputs are absorbed dose rate in air contributing from the basic surfaces as a function of time following a radionuclide deposition, and exposure dose rate contributing from various surfaces constituting the urban environment at a particular location of a receptor. As the result of a contaminative scenario for an apartment built-up area, exposure dose rates show a distinct difference for surrounding environment as well as locations of a receptor.

Korea has recently constructed a number of renewable photovoltaic power plants in Jeolla province as an effort to provide environment-friendly energy. However, several problems appeared in the power plant locations because they were not appropriately chosen ignoring social-environmental perspectives. Consequently, locations of both currently existing photovoltaic power plants require an social and environmental evaluations. This study aims to provide appropriate photovoltaic power plants locations and evaluation of current photovoltaic power plants in Jeolla province. By presenting location analysis of photovoltaic power plants, this study would minimize environmental and social side effects regarding photovoltaic power plants. Kriging and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are applied as methodology. ANP generates correct weights in combining spatial data, so that the result would present optimal locations. In addition environmentally sensitive regions were excluded in the analysis process. The results show that South and West coastal areas have a number of appropriate locations for photovoltaic power plants. In addition, evaluating currently running photovoltaic power plant locations, total 23 out 81 are turned out to be inappropriately located. This study is expected to contribute avoiding social and environmental conflicts in photovoltaic power plant locations and present criteria in evaluating photovoltaic power plants.
In order to set the outdoor weather conditions to be applied to the design standard of the greenhouse heating and cooling system, outdoor air temperature and heating degree-hour for heating design, dry bulb temperature, wet bulb temperature and solar irradiance for cooling design were analyzed and presented. For every region in Korea, we used thirty years from 1981 to 2010 hourly weather data for analysis, which is the current standard of climatological normal provided by KMA. Since the use of standard weather data is limited, design weather conditions were obtained using the entire weather data for 30 years, and the average value of the entire data period was presented as a design standard. The design weather data with exceedance probability of 1, 2.5, and 5% were analyzed by the TAC method, and we presented the distribution map with exceedance probability of 1% for heating and 2.5% for cooling which are recommended by design standards. The changes of maximum heating load, seasonal heating load and maximum cooling load were examined by regions, exceedance probabilities, and setpoint temperatures. The proposed outdoor design conditions can be used not only directly for the greenhouse heating and cooling design, but also for the reinforcement of heating and cooling facilities and the establishment of energy saving measures. Recently, due to the climate change, sweltering heat in summer and abnormal temperature in winter are occurring frequently, so we need to analyze weather data periodically and revise the design standard at least every 10 years cycle.

This paper presents test results on eight reduced beam section(RBS) steel moment connections. The testing program addressed bolted versus welded web connection and panel zone(PZ) strength as key variables, Specimens with medium PZ strength were designed to promote energy dissipation from both PZ and RBS regions such that the requirement for expensive doublet plates could be reduced. Both strong and medium PZ specimens with a welded web connection were able to provide satisfactory connection rotation capacity for special moment-resisting frames. On the other hand, specimens with a bolted web connection performed poorly due to premature brittle fracture of the beam flange of the weld access hole. If fracture within the beam flange groove weld was avoided using quality welding, the fracture tended to move into the beam flange base metal of the weld access hole. Plausible explanation of a higher incidence of base metal fracture in bolted web specimens was presented. The measured strain data confirmed that the classical beam theory dose not provide reliable shear transfer prediction in the connection. The practice of providing web bolts uniformly along the beam depth was brought into question. Criteria for a balanced PZ strength improves the plastic rotation capacity while reduces the amount of beam distortion ore also proposed.
