This study is a theoretical bioeconomic analysis to analyze the effectiveness of Marine Protected Area (MPA) implemented in different stock spatial distributions: Closed System, Source-Sink System, and Density-dependent System. In the analysis, an economic impact of vessel activities is also included and a joint effectiveness of MPA and input control is investigated as well. Results of the analysis show that total fisheries stocks are increased in all systems. However, total harvests are decreased when MPA is implemented in the closed system and in the sink patch of source-sink system. On the contrary, total harvests are increased or decreased according to the rate of stock migration and the level of fisheries stocks in the source patch of source-sink system and in the density-dependent system. Specifically, total harvests are increased more significantly as the rate of migration increases and the level of stock increases higher. In addition, the increase in fishing efforts is restricted due to the increase in fishing cost. Therefore, fishing efforts could not be increased greatly in the fishable area. When input control is combined with MPA, the total stocks could be more increased.
This study is to estimate population ecological parameters, including growth parameters, survival rates, instantaneous coefficients of natural and fishing mortalities, and age at first capture, as well as growth rates at age of the hairtail, Trichiurus lepturus Linne in Korean waters. For describing the growth of the hairtail, three growth models were fitted, and the von Bertalanffy growth model was adopted for the purpose of the further stock assessment work. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters estimated from a nonlinear regression using EXCEL Solver were $L_\infty=46.01cm$, K=0.3868, and $t_0=-0.3220$. Annual survival rate (S) of the hairtail was estimated to be 0.277 (variance=0.00035) and the instantaneous coefficient of natural mortality (M) was estimated to be 0.441/year. Instantaneous coefficient of fishing mortality (F) for the recent years was calculated as 0.843/year, implying an impact from fishing about two times greater than that of natural mortality. The age at first capture $(t_c)$ was estimated to be 0.787 years, which is much younger age than $50\%$ mature age. Finally, the growth rates at age were estimated.

This study was conducted to mesh selectivity of Beam trawl for shrimps fishing experiment in the coastal waters around Geomundo, South sea of Korea, during from Oct. to Nov. 2002. The selectivity parameters of big head shrimp (Solenocera melantho) have been studied on the covered con-end method. with mesh of 8, 38, 51 and 61 mm. Selection curves and selection parameters were calculated by using a logistic function S=1/(1+exp-(aCL+b)). The mesh selection master curves were estimated by S=1/(1+exp$^{({\alpha}(CL/M)+{\beta}}$), and the optimum mesh size were calculated with (L/M)50 of master curve. Optimum mesh size and selectivity master curves for the southern rough shrimp (Yrachysalambria curvirostris) and smoothshell shrimp (Parapenaeopsis tenella) optimum mesh size and selectivity master curves were estimated by big head shrimp master curves. The results obtained are summarized as follows : Selection parameters '${\alpha}$' and '${\beta}$' of the master curve for big head shrimp were 8.84 and -5.89, and The selection factor of the master curve (L/M)$_{50}$ was 0.67. The optimum mesh size of minimum length for sexual maturity for big head shrimp was 30.7 mm. Estimated (L/M)$_{50}$ for southern rough shrimp and smoothshell shrimp by using the master curve of big head shrimp was 0.73 and the optimum mesh sizes were 25.5 mm for southern rough shrimp and 16.9 mm for smoothshell shrimp, respectively.

In order to estimate the effect of ceramic artificial reefs on the fisheries resources enhancement, we have studied the variation of catch and species, which were caught by trammel net on the three fishing grounds of ceramic artificial reef, natural reef, and control(non-reef)in the coast of Geomun-do, Korea from 2001 to 2003. Catch per unit effort (CPUE ; g/panel) of fishing ground with the ceramic artificial reef area was 1,621.9g, it was about 67.9% higher than the natural reef area 333.3% higher than the control area. The catch of fish with the ceramic artificial and the natural reef area was not significantly different based on statistical analysis of Tukey test, whereas the relationship between the ceramic artificial reef and the control area was significantly different (p<0.05). Monthly mean number of species caught by the artificial reef area, the natural reef area and the control area was no difference by ANOVA test. The catch of fish was highest in November and lowest in May, whish was associated with the natural reef and the control area. The dominant species were demersal fishes living around rock such as Pagrus majir, Thamnaconus modestus, Stephanolepis sirrhifer, Pleuronichthys curntus, and Ostracion cubicus in the artificial reef area, but demersal of migratory fishes in the natural reef and the control area.
With an object to obtain an indication on the efficiency of the saury baits for tuna longline, frequencies of the saury heads found in the tuna stomachs were analysed by the equations developed from tile binomial distribution. Four factors were introduced into the equations : The hooking rate, p; rate of not being hooked q; rate of the effective baits retained in the stomachs of the captured tuna r; and the rate of tile previously taken baits retained in the tuna stomachs, t. The best estimates of $\frac{p}{p+q^t}$ and r are empirically obtained as follows. Yellowfin tuna: $\frac{p}{p+q^t}$=0.789, r=0.598 Bigeye tuna: $\frac{p}{p+q^t}$=0.810 r=0.608, Albacore tun : $\frac{p}{p+q^t}$=0.838, r=0.621.

The basic investigation of the sea eel pots fisheries by questionnarie observation and dimension of the pots by fishing operation were carried out in order to develop for mechanical hauling system with 20~50 gross tonnage fishing boats from June to December, 1988. Number and weight of fish per pot between smaller diameter 11cm and larger 13cm of the pot have no significance so that the drag of the smaller pots can be decreased about 20% than the larger pots. The operating time by two men from opening to closing with screwing lock entrance was slightly faster than that by three men with knotting entrance even though the losses with two kinds of entrances while fishing operation were about the same. It was very reasonable that stone and lead sinker on the main line were substitute for two or three lead core P.P rope to make it smooth surface of the main line for mechanization of the continuous fishing operation.

We conducted experiments to compare the catch rate of bigeye tuna and yellowfin tuna between circle hooks and straight shank hook in the Korean tuna longline fishery at the eastern and central Pacific Ocean from 2005 to 2007. We analyzed difference of fork length, survival and hooking location between a circle hook and a straight shank hook for both tunas, respectively. There was no difference in the mean fork length size of yellowfin tuna caught on the two type of hook but bigeye tuna was significant. In case of survival, there was no difference between two hook type, but the difference of hooking location was significant for both species. We also analyzed to find determinants of both tunas catch rate using generalized linear models (GLMs) which were used latitude, longitude, year, month, depth, hook type, bait type and so on as independent variables. Spatial factors, latitude and longitude, and temporal factors, year and month, affected catch rate of bigeye tuna and yellowfin tuna. And also, depth such as a marine environment factor was influenced on catch rate.
It is an important work to determine the mesh size of gill net for efficient catch. For investigating the suitable mesh size, the gill net for anchovy, Engraulis japonica was made and operated in the bay of Ulsan in July. 1983. The gill net for anchovy was composed of six different mesh size, 23.1mm (H=0.65), 21.6mm (H=0.65), 20.0mm (H=0.65), 23.1mm (H=0.55), 21.6mm (H=0.55) and 20.0mm(H=0.55). The parts of body caught by the gill net was examined, and the selectivity curves (for reference Ishida's method) with respect to the each mesh size were estimated using the data obtained through the operation of research gill net. The main results of this study are as follows: 1. The number of anchovy whose neck was in net was 148, more than $90\%$ of all, 161 2. The coefficient of relationship between the circumference of neck and the fork length were 0.70. 3. Fork length that the relative fishing efficiency of 23.1 mm mesh size (H=0.55) was maximum value was about 11.1 centimeter.

Korean tuna purse seine fishery in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean (WCPO) began to operate in earnest in the early 1980s. Since then, the total catch has shown an increasing trend and the target species are skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis), yellowfin tuna (Thunnus albacare) and bigeye tuna (Thunnus obesus). Based on the operational data of Korean tuna purse seine fishery from 2016 to 2020, the catch rates of target species (skipjack and yellowfin tunas) were analyzed by operation time for set types (free school and FAD sets). In the case of the free school sets, they were usually made from sunrise to sunset, and the catch rate was high before and after sunrise for skipjack tuna and before sunset for yellowfin tuna. On the other hand, for the FAD sets, more than 90% of them were made just before sunrise, and there were few operations during the daytime. The purpose of this study is to examine whether there are differences in the catch rate of skipjack and yellowfin tunas by operation time and by school type for Korean tuna purse seine fishery in the WCPO, which could be helpful in understanding its fishing characteristics and providing useful information for developing the stock indices of the target species.

Test fishing was carried out to examine the selectivity of the mesh size in trammel net for tonguefish (Cynoglossidae spp.) from May to August, 1999 and a total of 30 times of test fishing have been done in the coastal waters around Dolsando, Yosu, South Chunra province, Korea. A gill net and a trammel net which were composed of three different mesh sizes (70.5mm, 86.6mm and 101mm) were used for the experiment. The selectivity curve of mesh size was estimated by Kitahara's method for Robust tonguefish (Cynoglossus robustus). The results obtained are summarized as follows ; 1. Catching efficiency of the trammel net (70.5mm-sized-lint main net) was 39.0% and it was 2.5 times higher than 15.8% for the gill net. 2. The optimum l/m value of the trammel net was 3.51 and it was 0.13 higher than 3.38 for the gill net. 3. The selectivity of trammel net was similar to that of the gill net for low length-class. However, the selectivity of trammel net was not good compared with that of the gill net for high length-class. The 50% selectivity was 1.33 for the trammel net and 0.83 for the gill net. According to the experimental results, fishing efficiency of the trammel net was better than that of the gill net for tonguefish (Cynoglossidae spp.) and it was known that catch length for targeted species could be selected by controlling the mesh size.
