  • Motion sickness is dizziness symptom that occurs when movement detected in the vestibular organ and movement detected visually are collide with each other. When dizziness occurs, user complains of symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, sense of direction abnormality, and fatigue. These causes of dizziness are various and difficult to differentiate and treat the symptoms. Especially, among the types of dizziness VIMS(Visually Induced Motion Sickness) is a problem to solve in developing VR industry. These VIMS analysis can be done through user's vital signs measurement and feature analysis, and EEG characteristics analysis. Therefore, this paper is discuss the minimization of motion sickness caused by visual information based on EEG signal and present research trends related to it.

  • Posterior canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (PCBPPV) is the most common disease among patients who visited the st. Carollo hospital dizziness center with the head suddenly feeling rolling or rotational dizziness caused by head and body movements. Most patients showed improvements in symptoms after a single treatment. On the other hand, there are more causes requiring multiple treatments. This study examined the factors affecting the canalithiasis repositioning maneuver for symptom recovery of dizziness, which is posterior BPPV. Dizziness patients who visited the dizziness center of PCBPPV were classified. From March 2008 to November 2010, the cure rate of 165 posterior BPPVs patients was investigated. The success rate after the first, second, third, and further treatments was 57.6%, 17.6%, 10.3%, and 14.5%, respectively. The factors affecting treatment of PCBPPVs included traumatic, medical disease, cerebral infarction, small vessel disease, vestbro basilar artery insufficiency (VBI), cerebrovascular disease, brain disease, and vestibuloplasty (P<0.05). Vomiting, nausea, and syncope can be treated easily by considering the factors affecting these treatments. If the related diseases are combined with the treatment of the canalithiasis repositioning maneuver for symptom recovery of dizziness, the results will show an improvement in daily life that is free from painful dizziness.

  • In general, dizziness is caused by various situations, but among them, symptoms due to dysfunction of the motor system belonging to the nervous system are the most severe, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Treatment of these dizziness includes drug therapy, surgical therapy, and rehabilitation. Drug therapy and surgery are generally performed in vest rehabilitation training, which is a rehabilitation therapy because of the risk of aftereffects. The vestibular rehabilitation training includes eye training, posture stabilization training, and walking training. Among them, walking training is performed in a certain space under the supervision of a doctor or a professional therapist, so that the time and space burden is increased. In order to solve this problem, we implemented gait training contents which can be used for rehabilitation training by using the augmented reality technology. It is expected that it can be utilized as dizziness rehabilitative contents which can be used in medical environment through clinical tests for patients with dizziness.

  • VR technology is a technology that allows a user to experience virtual reality close to reality by wearing an HMD (Head Mounted Display) device. Recently, as the interest in VR technology increases due to the 4th industrial revolution, various HMD devices are spreading. As a result, VR technology is being rapidly applied to various fields, but many of them still experience VR nausea. VR nausea is caused mainly by visual factors, unlike motion nausea, such as car nausea, sea nausea, and air nausea. Such occurrence of VR nausea may be caused by the characteristics of visual information of VR video contents, the hardware characteristics of HMD devices blocking the external visual field, or the physical specificity of individuals, and it is difficult to distinguish the causes. In this paper, we aim to analyze the characteristics of Visually Induced Motion Nausea images focusing on VR video content, which is the cause of VR nausea, in order to search for minimization of Cyber sickness occurrence.

  • Users may experience a sub-type of motion sickness, called cybersickness, when interacting with virtual reality (VR) applications in the state of wearing head mounted display (HMD) devices. Although the root cause of cybersickness is still unclear, it is believed to result from a sensory mismatch between visual and vestibular systems. However, there is a lack of studies developing data collection and analysis systems to measure cybersickness. In this paper, therefore, a system is designed that collects electroencephalography (EEG) and physiological data from a user wearing a VR HMD device through an internet of things (IoT) platform and decides whether a user experiences a symptom of cybersickness, namely dizziness, or not by using a decision threshold. Experimental results showed that the proposed system achieved about 92% accuracy of a dizziness detection when considering 14 participants.

  • A dizziness case with functional cerebro-spinal therapy (FCST) was reviewed to explore the effect of FCST. The case was managed with Yinyang Balancing Appliance (YBA) and the TMJ Balancing Appliance (TBA), combined with acupuncture, cupping and herbal medicine. Clinical outcome measurement was performed based on subjective measures and clinical observation. The patient showed positive changes starting after the first treatment. Futher clinical and biological research on FCST is expected.

  • Objective : The purpose of this paper is to report the improvement of patient with dizziness treated by herb medication based on Shanghanlun disease pattern identification diagnostic system. Methods : According to 'Disease Pattern Identification Diagnostic System based on Shanghanlun Provisions', the patient diagnosed with Taeyang-byung, number 27 provision, and took Guizhieryuebiyi-tang herb medication 30 days. The changing symptom of dizziness was estimated by VAS(Visual Analogue Scale). Results : The VAS changed 10 to 0. Conclusions : On the number 27 provision of Shanghanlun, '弱' means lower body helplessness. This is the first case report treating the dizziness with Guizhieryuebiyi-tang in Korea.

  • We present an experimental framework to analyze the physical reactions and causal factors of Visually Induced Motion Sickness (VIMS) using electroencephalography (EEG) signals and vital signs. We studied eleven subjects who are voluntarily participated in the experiments and conducted online and offline surveys. In order to simulate videos including global motions that could cause the motion sickness, we extracted global motions by optical flow estimation method from hand-held captured video recordings containing intense motions. Then, we applied the extracted global motions to our test videos with action movies and texts. Each genre of video includes three levels of different motions depending on its intensity. EEG signal and vital sign that were measured by a portable electrocorticography device and an electronic monometer in real time while the subjects watch the videos including ones with the extracted motions. We perform an analysis of the EEG signals using Distance Map(DM) calculated by correlation among each channel of brain signal. Analysis using the vital signs and the survey results is also performed to obtain relationship between the VIMS and causal factors. As a result, we clustered subjects into three groups based on the analysis of the physical reaction using the DM and the correlation between vital sign and survey results, which shows high relationships between the VIMS and the intensity of motions.
