The purpose of this study is to examine and analyze the development process of Korean children's libraries from 1945 to 2002. The development process of Korean children's library is divided into stages as follows. First, the preparation period (after colonial liberation in 1945~1976) is the time when library services for children were started, focusing on children's rooms in public libraries. The children's libraries were not recognized enough to be established. Second, the growing period (1977~2002), was primarily aimed at providing library services to children. In this period, the children's libraries were mainly established in the private sector rather than the public sector.

어린이도서관에 대한 사회적 관심이 증폭되고 있다. 올해 초부터 MBC TV '!느낌표‘의 ’기적의 도서관 프로젝트‘가 가동되었고, 지난 2월 20일 서울시 노원구청에서는 지자체 최초의 어린이도서관인 ’노원어린이도서관‘을 개관한 바 있다. 이렇듯 어린이도서관 만들기 운동은 전국의 어린이들과 아동교육 관계자들의 뜨거운 지지와 격려를 받고 있다. 이와 관련해 지난 3월 12일 부산여자대학에서 어린이도서관을 개관했다는 소식을 접했다. 대학에서 어린이도서관을 개관했다기에 본지에서 이에 대한 내용을 좀 더 자세히 다루고자 부산여자대학 정영재 어린이도서관장과 서면인터뷰를 하였다.

The purpose of this study is identify factors influenced of children's library use and management through investigating the use patterns and recognition of children's parents on children's libraries. Questionnaire was used as a research method. Data was collected from the parents who entered library entrance with their child and children on four public libraries. Six factors were identified from four public libraries setting. There were the spatial planning based upon library use patterns, the flexibility and mobile furnishings, the activity area for causing children's Interesting, the guarantee of safety Place for children, the quiet area for emotional stability, and functional place for moving around.

This study suggests basic principals and requirements for future development of children's library classification scheme Until now there is no standardized children's library classification system, thereby librarians as well as library users have to go through many troubles. Therefore this study researched current conditions of children's libraries In Korea and analyzed the types and characteristics of children's books. This study reviewed children's book classification systems and how these systems are being used in three different library system: public and Inpyo Children's Library, Miracle Library, and private children's libraries. This study conducted in-depth research on two notable children's book classification systems of Neutinamu Children's Library and Parangsae Children's Library. This study suggests basic principals and requirements for children's library classification scheme, based on researches described above.

IFLA(국제도서관협회연맹)의 어린이/청소년 도서관분과(Libraries for Children and Young Adults Section)는 전세계의 어린이 및 청소년을 위한 도서관 발전에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 평생학습의 중요성, 어린이의 독서, 그들의 정보를 제공받을 권리에 대한 인식을 고양시키고 있다. 어린이 도서관은 일상생활 가까이에서 지역주민에게 지식정보 서비스를 제공할 뿐 아니라 공공도서관과의 연계를 통해 우리나라 전체 도서관 서비스의 수준을 발전시키고자 하는 생활 친화적 문화기반 시설인 소규모 도서관(혹은 문고)시설이다. 즉 어린이 도서관은 접근성을 가장 큰 장점으로 하여 누구나 쉽고 편리하게 이용할 수 있는 고객중심의 공공도서관 서비스라고 할 수 있다. 어린이 도서관의 주 이용고객은 어린이와 주부로서 최근 이들이 함께 도서관을 이용하는 빈도가 증가하면서 어린이 도서관은 단순히 책을 빌리고 공부를 하는 장소에서 나아가 가족단위의 여가활동이 가능한 문화적 공간으로 변모하여가고 있다. 어린이 도서관은 기본적으로 책을 읽는 조용한 공간이지만 주 이용자가 6세 미만의 유아와 초등학교 저학년 어린이이기에 독서행위와 더불어 또래 친구들과의 친교행위. 부모님과의 정서적 유대감 형성행위, 소규모 근육활동과 같은 놀이행위가 병행된다. 또 어린이 도서관에서 사용되어지는 정형적인 모듈의 서가를 비롯한 입식. 좌식 테이블과 의자들은 소수의 디자이너에 의해 만들어진 것이지만 그것을 이용하는 다수의 어린이들은 디자이너의 의도와 방법에 따라 가구를 사용하는 것 외에도 환경적 컨텍스트에 맞추어 가구의 새로운 쓰임을 발견하며 훨씬 더 다채로운 방법으로 가구를 사용하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 독서 및 놀이 행위 시 아동-부모의 상호작용 방법에 기반하여 아동의 가구사용방법(Way of Seat)을 알아보고 이를 바탕으로 어린이의 행태정보를 모델링하여 가구를 사용하는 어린이의 다양한 행위 이면에 내재된 요구를 파악하는데 있다. 가구를 사용하는 어린이의 다양한 행태 이면에 내재한 어린이만의 특성과 요구를 알아보기 위해서는 먼저 어린이 도서관이라는 특수한 물리적 환경요인 및 사용자 컨텍스트(Context)에 대한 이해가 선행되어야 한다. 이를 위해 기반조사 및 어린이 도서관 방문을 통한 정황조사(Contextual Inquiry)를 실시하였다. 이를 통해 6세 미만의 유아와 초등학생의 가구사용방법(Way of Seat)과 독서 및 놀이 행위 시 행태를 관찰하여 Photo Based Research를 바탕으로 어린이의 행태정보를 모델링 하였다.

This study develops a set of measures for public library services to children. It is designed to use both measures for library service quality including personnel, library materials and resources. spaces for the service, and other services. and those for library customer satisfaction on equal basis. It specifies 23 scales for 4 each dimensions of measures for service quality, based on the suggestions both from the consulting members of specialists and from the personnel of the National Library for Children and Young Adults. and from the results obtained from the analysis on the questionnaires from the public librarians to children and researchers in this fields. This measures were testified by applying to 18 sample libraries.

환경(공간)은 예외 없이 존재의미를 규정한다. 학교도서관은 더욱 그러하다. 청소년기의 학교도서관이 그 존재 자체만으로도 도서관의 존재에 대한 일반적 의미 이상인 이유도 거기에 있다. 즉 학교안에 도서관이 있기 때문이다. 특히 초등학교 도서관의 의미는 더욱 각별하다. 학교도서관은 담임선생님이나 교장선생님의 존재보다 더 훌륭한 인류의 스승들, 즉 위인들의 모습들이 간직되어 있는 곳으로, 한마디로 말해 어린이에게 그곳은 위인의 전당이고 어린이 철학의 요람이기 때문이다. 많은 어린이들이 그곳에서 자신의 미래를 꿈꾸고, 자신도 모르는 사이에 어린이 철학자가 되기 때문이기도 하다.
