[TEACOOH]-Montmorillonite intercalations complex obtained from Na-Montmorillonite and 10-Carboxy-n-decyldimethylethylammonium bromide(organic cation) was reacted with the monomer($\varepsilon$-caprolactone) to achieve the [TEACOOH]-$\varepsilon$-caprolactone-Montmorillonite intercalations complex. From intercalations complex Montmorillonite/Polycaprolactone Nanocomposite in which montmorillonite(inorganic material) is chemically linked with the polycaprolactone(organic polymer) was formed at $220^{\circ}C$ for 48 h. The basal spacing for the sample obtained after polymerization, extraction with methanol and dried at $65^{\circ}C$ in high vacuum for 24 h was 50.7 $\AA$.
The water-soluble poly(vinyl alcohol) membranes with the addition of sulfosuccinic acid (SSA) were prepared and to assign the ion exchange capacity, poly(4-styrene sulfonic acid-co-maleic acid) (PSSA_MA) was added to PVA according to PSSA_MA contents of 70, 80 and 90 wt%. To characterize the resulting membranes, FT-IR, water contents, ion exchange capacity, proton conductivity and methanol permeability were measured. As PSSA_MA contents increased, water contents, ion exchange capacity, proton conductivity increased, but methanol permeability decreased. From these results, the best preparation component was known as PVA10/SSA9/PSSA_MA80.

This experiment has been carried out to determine the pH dependent cation exchange capacity concerning the sorption phenomenon of long-lived radionuclides contained in low-level liquid radioactive waste on various clay minerals. The pH dependent cation exchange capacity determined by Sawhney's method are used to the analysis of sorption phenomenon. About 70 percent of the total cation exchange capacity is contributed by the pH dependent CEC due to the negative charge originated naturally in clays in case of clinoptilolite, vermiculite and sodalite. It is sugested in this test that the high neutral salt CEC, that is, highly charged clays would show good fixation yield. The removal of radionuclides at the pH range more than pH 9 is considered the hydroxide precipitation of metal ion rather than the cation exchange. The Na-clay prepared by the method of successive isomorphic substitution with electrolyte showed a considerable improvement in removal efficiency for the decontamination.
To synthesize cation exchange resin which has thermal stability, the sulfonated poly(ether ether sulfone) (SPEES) was obtained by sulfonation after synthesis of poly(ether ether sulfone) (PEES). It was prepared from hydroquinone and dichlorophenyl sulfone. From FT-IR results, the sulfonation was confirmed by the bands of asymmetric O=S=O stretching of $SO_3Na$ Na group at $1140cm^{-1}$ and S-C stretching at $621cm^{-1}$. The optimum condition of the sulfonation of PEES, based on IR absorbance, was 3 hr of reaction time, $30^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature, and chlorosulfonic acid of 150 mol%. Ion exchange capacities calculated by the IR absorbance of PEES sulfonated in optimum condition was 6.2 meq/g, which was nearly similar to the ion exchange capacity calculated by titration. When the metal ion was adsorved, small brain, lump, hulled millet shape and compact surface, were observed in the morphology of SPEES.
The mineralogical, physicochemical and thermal properties of the Myogi bentonite occurring in Japan were measured. A adsorption properties of U, Th, Ce and Eu ions on the Myogi bentonite were also investigated in different solution concentrations and pH conditions. The Myogi bentonite showed a strong alkaline character (pH 10.4), very high swelling, viscosity property and CEC, and a slow flocculation behavior due to the strong hydrophilic property. By the thermal analysis, the dehydroxylation of crystal water in bulk and clay fractions of the Myogi bentonite occur at $591^{\circ}C$ and $658^{\circ}C$, respectively, The adsorption experiments of ions such as U, Th, Ce and Eu were conducted for 0.2 g bentonites with 20mL solutions of various concentrations and different pH conditions with pH 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11. As a result, the Myogi bentonite showed excellent adsorption capacities for Ce, Th and Eu ions, whereas U ion showed very low adsorption capacity. Generally, Ce, Th and Eu ions showed the similar adsorption properties for the different concentrated solutions and pH conditions. These adsorption properties seem to be affected by the formation of various forms of chemical species and precipitation as well as ionic exchange reaction and surface adsorptions on smectite. Some associated zeolite minerals perhaps have some effects on the adsorption of U, Th, Ce and Eu on Myogi bentonite.
Objective of this research was to evaluate the fate of nitrogen and phosphorous in hydroponic waste solution from the plastic film house cultivation applied to the upland soil by column leaching and field experiment. The pH and EC of leachate were decreased by the reaction with the upland soil in the column leaching experiment. The EC and concentrations of $H^+,\;K^+,\;and\;{NH_4}^+$ of leachate were decreased as the column length (soil depth) was increased. But these were increased as the amounts of the hydroponic waste solution were increased field experiment growing red pepper (Capsicum annum L.) to monitor the nutrients movement using ion exchange resin capsule demonstrated that the nutrient concentration of soil solution was increased in the orders of $PO_4-P. Nitrate concentration of resin capsule inserted into the soil was relatively higher than other nutrients $(NH_4-N\;and\;PO_4-P)$ at the 45 cm of soil depth. The overall results demonstrated that the hydroponic waste solution could be recycled as plant nutrients to enhance fertility of soils. But nitrate leaching was a major factor for safe use of the hydroponic waste solution in soil.
The reactions of trimethylbenzenes were investigated over dealuminated, cation-exchanged mordenite catalysts. Higher reaction temperature favored the formation of disproportionation products. In the reaction of 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, the formation of 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene and the disproportionation products decreased sharply with reaction time. The product distribution, especially the distribution of trimethylbenzenes, suggests that the effective pore diameter of Ba-exchanged dealuminated mordenite catalysts lies somewhere between 8.1 and 8.6${\AA}$.
