The Effects of Occupational Performance Ability and Leisure Satisfaction of Parents of Children with Disability on Parenting Stress (장애아동 부모의 작업수행능력과 여가만족이 장애아동의 양육스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of occupational performance ability and leisure satisfaction on parenting stress in parents with disabled children. The data collection period was from January 10, 2017 to February 17, 2017, and 72 questionnaires were used for analysis. The research tool was a structured questionnaire which comprised the following components: general characteristics questionnaire, parenting stress measurement tool, occupational performance ability tool, and leisure satisfaction questionnaire. The results of this study were as follows. The general characteristics of children with high parenting stress were as follows: female, age 8-12, developmental and intellectual disability, disability grade 1 and 2, in the case of private treatment institutions. There was a significant correlation between parental occupational performance ability, parenting stress, and leisure satisfaction. Occupation, social integration, and economic independence, and leisure satisfaction were the factors influencing parenting stress. The results of this study can be used as basic data for the parenting stress intervention of parents with disabilities.

Parental Efficacy and Practices among Korean Immigrant Families in the US (부모의 양육효능감과 부모역할수행과의 관계 : 재미동포 한인 1세대 부모에 관한 연구)

  • This study investigates the relationships between parental efficacy and parental practices among Korean immigrant parents in the US. Parental efficacy constitutes a special aspect of parental belief systems focusing on the beliefs that parents have the capabilities to manage the tasks of nurturing and socializing their children. Results showed that parental efficacy was positively related to the authoritative dimension of parental practices. However, there was no significant negative relationship between parental efficacy and the authoritarian dimension of parental practices. Interestingly, the authoritative and authoritarian dimensions of parental practices were highly correlated among Korean immigrant parents. This finding is in contrast to much of the research on Anglo American parenting that indicates that authoritarian practices are not compatible with authoritative practices. For Korean immigrant parents, authoritarian practices seem not to have detrimental connotation. Therefore, it can be assumed that Korean immigrant parents parental practices have different underlying mechanisms compared to Anglo American parents. We need to focus parenting research with a broader perspective on the sociological and historical context from which parental practices arise.

The effects of father's parenting behavior and stress, and knowledge on child rearing on his parenting self-efficacy (아버지의 양육수행, 양육스트레스 및 양육지식이 부모효능감에 미치는 영향 -7세 이하 자녀를 둔 맞벌이 가정을 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relative effects of father's parenting behavior, parenting stress and knowledge on bringing up children on his parenting self-efficacy. Two hundred and seventy fathers with children under the age of seven participated in this study. Fathers showed a lower level of parenting stress and a higher level of knowledge on child rearing. A higher level of parenting self-efficacy was observed in fathers who have good jobs. The factors of father's parenting behavior, parenting stress and knowledge on rearing children were significant variables in predicting his parenting self-efficacy. A factor of knowledge on child rearing was the best predictor of father's parenting self-efficacy.

A Study on Fair Parental Role Model of Dual Earner Couples, their Expectation for Parental Nursing Capability and Real Nursing Practices (맞벌이 부부의 부모역할 공평성 가치관 및 아버지의 양육수행유능감과 양육수행)

  • This study aims to explore the variable factors by which fathers affect nursing practices. for this study 544 married couples were interviewed, which resulted in the following conclusions. First, wives have higher fairness than husbands in sharing their parental roles. Second, in some couples, there was a difference seen in the expectations of each parents nursing capability, but rarely were differences in real nursing practices actually observed. Third, all couples interviewed showed some disparity between their expectations of parental nursing capability and their real nursing practices, where the expectations for nursing capability were higher than the real nursing practices. Fourth, higher expectations for nursing capabilities from fathers result in them having better parental roles. Fifth, there is no correlation between parental nursing practices and social demographic variables. Lastly, the impacts on the parental nursing practices are ranked by relative importance as parental nursing capability, the wife's expectation for parental nursing capability and so on.

The Dif erence in language Development according to Childcare Type and Child Age (부모양육과 조부모 양육에서 연령에 따른 언어발달의 차이)

  • The study aimed to identify the differences in language development according to childcare type and child age. Specifically, the study aimed to confirm the difference in the language development between children whose language interactions with their parents are made normally and children whose language interactions with their parents are blocked. With this aim, the study conducted a language development test aimed at a total of 248 children consisting of 146 children raised by their parents and 102 children raised by their grandparents from among children at the age of 3 and of 4. The results obtained from the study include the following. First, the receptive language of children raised by their parents was found to be higher than that of children raised by their grandparents. Second, the expressive language of children raised by their parents was discovered to be higher than the expressive language of children raised by their grandparents. Third, the language development of children raised by their parents was shown to be higher than that of children raised by their grandparents.

Father's Participant Program at Kindergarten : Influences on Father's Involvement in Child-Rearing and Role Performance and Mother's Parenting Stress (유치원의 아버지 참여 프로그램이 아버지의 자녀양육 참여도와 역할수행 및 어머니의 양육스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated whether there are differences in father's involvement in child-rearing and role performance and on mother's parenting stress after fathers' participating in the father's program at kindergarten. Subjects were parents of children enrolled in H kindergarten, 38 fathers (18 experimental group, 20 control groups) and 38 mothers (wives of the experimental and control group fathers). Data were analyzed by mean, standard deviation, and t-test on the pre-score and post-score. Findings were that : father's participant program at kindergarten affected father's involvement in child-rearing and role performance, and mother's parenting stress reduction : the experimental group father's involvement in child-rearing and role performance was improved more than the control group. Experimental group mothers' parenting stress than that of the control group.

Impact of Social Capital on Married Immigrant Women's Parenting in South Korea (사회자본이 여성결혼이민자의 양육참여 및 양육효능감에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the impact of social capital on married immigrant women's parenting, specifically focusing on the mediating effect of parenting participation. Using structural equation modeling, social capital within and outside of the family were examined in their relations to parenting efficacy, and the mediating effect of parenting participation was analysed. Study participants were 459 immigrant women from the Gyeonggi Education Welfare Panel(2011), who had children in 5th and 6th grades of elementary school. Findings suggested that social capital within and outside of the family had significant impact on parenting participation, which in turn affected parenting efficacy. Direct effects of social capital on parenting efficacy were not statistically significant, indicating a full mediation effect of parenting participation. Implications for social work practice and social policy for this population are discussed.

An Analysis of Nursing Research on Child Rearing in Korea (자녀양육에 대한 국내 간호학분야 연구논문 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze papers on child rearing in Korea and to suggest future research and nursing practice directions for child rearing. Methods: An on-line search via 5 web sites yielded 201 research papers. The analysis of key concepts was based on the attributes of parenting and type of knowledge held by the parents. Results: The research papers found in the search were 27.3% experimental and 72.7% non-experimental. Among the participants, 77.0% of parents raising the child were mothers and the children were mostly young children under the age of one year. Types of knowledge related to child rearing varied widely, but explanatory knowledge (55.2%) was the most common, followed by prescriptive knowledge (30.0%) and descriptive knowledge (14.8%). For attributes of parenting, reaction to parenting (49.9%) followed by parenting behavior/practice (43.1%) was most common. Conclusion: Findings of this study indicate that further research is necessary regarding fathers and surrogate caregivers and on prescriptive knowledge for health promotion of children at different developmental stages. Also the results suggest a need for research toward developing child care policies.

A study on experience of childcare service providers for adolescent parents (청소년부모 양육지원가의 양육지원서비스 제공 경험)

  • The purpose of the study is to explore the experience of participants who have provided a chidlcare service, and to suggest implications for childcare service for adolescent parents. The author used a purposive sampling method to select 3 cases with experiences related to childcare service, collecting data via direct interview and by obtaining a written text describing their case management. An inductive (open) coding approach was utilized to draw themes and categories from the data. The 6 categories describing service providing experiences of the study participants include "motives for participate a childcare service", "contents of service provided by participants", "tries to establish relationship with adolescent parents", "deepening of understand about adolescent parents", "limits of providing services". Implications and future directions were discussed for childcare services on adolescent parents having crisis related to childbirth and child rearing.

Relationships among Maternal Parenting Behavior, Parenting Stress and Performance on the K-BSID-II : The Moderating Effect of Parenting Stress (모의 양육행동 및 양육 스트레스와 K-BSID-II 수행간의 관계 : 양육 스트레스의 중재효과 탐색)

  • This study analyzed relations among maternal parenting behavior, infant development and parenting stress focusing on the moderating effect of parenting stress. Subjects were 30 infants and their mothers. After videotaping the mother-infant free play session, maternal parenting was analyzed by the Parent Child Interaction Play Assessment(Mash & Terdal, 1981); mothers' parenting stress was measured by questionnaire. Infant development was measured individually by the Korean Bayley Scale of Infant Development (K-BSID-II). Correlation analyses revealed that infant cognitive development correlated significantly with maternal parenting behavior (attention) but the relation between them was moderated by maternal parenting stress; only the low parenting stress group showed a positive relationship between maternal parenting behavior and infant development.
