Motion Prior-Guided Refinement for Accurate Baseball Player Pose Estimation (스윙 모션 사전 지식을 활용한 정확한 야구 선수 포즈 보정)

  • 현대 야구에서 타자의 스윙 패턴 분석은 상대 투수가 투구 전략을 수립하는데 상당히 중요하다. 이미지 기반의 인간 포즈 추정(HPE)은 대규모 스윙 패턴 분석을 자동화할 수 있다. 그러나 기존의 HPE 방법은 빠르고 가려진 신체 움직임으로 인해 복잡한 스윙 모션을 정확하게 추정하는 데 어려움이 있다. 이러한 문제를 극복하기 위해 스윙 모션에 대한 사전 정보를 활용하여 야구 선수의 포즈를 보정하는 방법(BPPC)을 제안한다. BPPC는 동작 인식, 오프셋 학습, 3D에서 2D 프로젝션 및 동작 인지 손실 함수를 통해 스윙 모션에 대한 사전 정보를 반영하여 기성 HPE 모델 결과를 보정한다. 실험에 따르면 BPPC는 벤치마크 데이터셋에서 기성 HPE 모델의 2D 키포인트 정확도를 정량적 및 정성적으로 향상시키고, 특히 신뢰도 점수가 낮고 부정확한 키포인트를 크게 보정했다.

Batting index prediction model 2017 (2017년 한국프로야구 타자력 예측모형 개발)

  • In this paper, we propose batting index prediction models of 2017. Due to the insufficiency of KBO pitchers data, batting index prediction models of 2016 has been developed based on elected eight batting index collecting the past three years data of MLB and KBO. It has been found that this prediction model fits well to both MLB and KBO, and the KBO model fits better than MLB in some cases. Using these prediction models, we analyzed and compared 2016's estimated values for the batting index of MLB and KBO. With the relation results between batting index prediction and batter's age for MLB and KBO, it can be determined that there is no relationship between the significant batting index and ages.

Ultrasonographic Findings of the Shoulder in Asymptomatic High School Overhead Athletes (무증상 고교 상지 거상 운동 선수의 견관절 초음파 소견)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the ultrasonographic (US) findings in both shoulders of asymptomatic high school overhead athletes and compare with healthy control. Materials and Methods: 33 individuals (age: $17.5{\pm}1.4$ years) participated in this study. We recruited two groups of high school male athletes, 13 baseball and 10 volleyball players without shoulder pain for recent 6 months as well as one control group of 10 untrained healthy high school students who were age-matched. Ultrasound measurements of thickness of biceps and supraspinatus tendon and acromio-humral distance (AHD) at 0o abduction were taken in dominant and nondominant shoulders. Results: On US examination, subacromial bursa effusion was observed in 5 of the dominant shoulders and in 1 of the nondominant shoulder of 23 overhead athletes and in none of the asymptomatic controls. The thickness of the biceps and supraspinatus tendons and AHD in both shoulders were significantly greater in the athletes than in the controls (P<0.05). We also found that the thickness of the biceps and supraspinatus tendon and AHD of the dominant shoulder were significantly greater than the non-dominant shoulder in overhead athletes (P<0.05), but there were no differences between baseball and volleyball players. Conclusion: Subacromial effusion could be found even in the asymptomatic stage overhead athlete and the thickness of the biceps and supraspinatus tendons and AHD were significantly greater in the overhead athletes than in the healthy controls. Our data is useful reference guide for the ultrasonographic diagnosis of shoulder pathologies occurring in overhead athletes.

  • In this study, amateur baseball team leaders studied ways to train student baseball team players through records management. To this end, a system was developed that could apply the formula for obtaining various secondary records or savermetrics data. The team distributed the information to three leaders of the student baseball team and studied the training guidelines through the target group interface. Through the records, students were able to increase motivation and make sure that all the players were faithful to their roles.

  • 매일 게시되는 다양한 프로야구 관련 기사에는 경기 결과, 각종 기록, 선수의 부상 등 다양한 정보가 뒤섞여있어, 사용자가 원하는 정보를 찾아내는 과정이 매우 번거롭다. 본 논문에서는 문서 검색과 기계 독해를 이용하여 야구 분야에 대한 Q&A 시스템을 제안한다. 기사를 형태소 분석하고 BM25 알고리즘으로 얻은 문서 가중치로 사용자 질의에 적합한 기사들을 선정하고 KorQuAD 1.0과 직접 구축한 프로야구 질의응답 데이터셋을 이용해 학습시킨 BERT 모델 기반 기계 독해로 답변 추출을 진행한다. 야구 특화 데이터 셋을 추가하여 학습시켰을 때 F1 score, EM 모두 15% 내외의 정확도 향상을 보였다.

The Results of Ultrasound Examination of the Elbow in Middle School Baseball Players (중학교 야구선수에서 시행한 주관절 초음파 검사의 결과)

  • Purpose: To evaluate the ultrasonographic findings of the elbows on group screening of middle school baseball players. Materials and Methods: Ninety-three players (age: 12-15, mean 13.5 years) of four middle school baseball team were evaluated with bilateral elbow ultrasonographies in the field regardless of elbow pain. Medial and anterolateral ultrasound examination of the both elbow were performed in the field to detect any abnormalities including medial epicondylar separation or fragmentation and capitellar osteochondritis dissecans respectively. We analyzed the relationship among elbow pain, physical findings and sonographic abnormalities and the differences of sonographic abnormalities between pitchers and fielders. Results: Thirty-six of 93 (39%) players had sonographic abnormalities of elbow in dominant arm, 30 with medial epicondylar apophyseal separation or fragmentation, 2 with osteochondritis dissecans, 4 with both lesions. Twenty-nine of 37 (78%) players with elbow pain had sonographic abnormalities. On physical examination, players with medial epicondylar abnormalities had medial epicondylar tenderness (59%) and pain on valgus stress test (52%), and 5 of 6 (83%) players with osteochondritis dissecans showed flexion contracture more than $5^{\circ}$. The incidence of medial epicondylar abnormalities between pitchers and fielders was statistically not significant but osteochondritis dissecans was more prevalent in pitchers (p<0.05). Conclusion: Elbow sonography is a simple and useful screening tool in the field and also effective for early detection of medial epicondylar abnormalities or osteochondritis dissecans that could be the main causes of elbow pain in adolescent baseball players.

  • This research is to comprehensively evaluate offensive abilities of baseball players who are expected to produce as many runs as possible by their hitting and running. To this end, we establish a simulation program to obtain the so-called scoring index of an individual player. The scoring index of a player is defined as an expected number of runs scored by an imaginary team that is composed of nine copies of the player. As a simulation input, we use 2014 season data of Korean pro-baseball. As a result, we present the scoring indices of top 10 players, 9 Korean pro-baseball teams, and overall 2014 season. The scoring index can serve as a comprehensive evaluation of offensive ability of a player or a team, selection of players for a (national) team or for a starting line-up, estimation of player's worth, and so on.

Prediction of OPS(On-base Plus Slugging) in KBO League (한국프로야구에서 장타율과 출루율(OPS) 예측 연구)

  • In sports, the proportion of data analysis in team management such as team strategy planning and marketing is increasing. In KBO(Korea Baseball Organization) league, in particular, plans such as recruiting players and fostering players are established to devise team strategies for the next year, such as FA and trade, at the end of a season. For these reasons, it is very important to predict players' performance for the next year. In this study, the target was limited to only the batter and tried to find out how to predict whether the performance of the next year will improve. As a standard record for rising and falling, OPS(On-Base Plus Slugging), which is easy to calculate and has a high relationship with team score, was used. In this study, 40 years of regular season data from 1982 to 2021 were used as data, and 11 machine learning classification models were used as experimental methods. Predicting the rise and fall of OPS, RBF SVM, Neural Net, Gaussian Process, and AdaBoost were more accurate than other classification models, and age did not significantly affect accuracy.

Norm-referenced criteria for strength of the elbow joint for the korean high school baseball players using the isokinetic equipment: (Focusing on seoul and gyeonggi-do) (등속성 장비를 이용하여 한국고교야구선수 주관절 근력 평가기준치 설정: (서울 및 경기도 중심으로))

  • The purpose of this study was to establish norm-referenced criteria for the isokinetic strength of the elbow joint in Korean high school baseball players. Two hundred and one high school baseball players participated in this study, none of whom had any medical problem with their upper limbs. The elbow flexion/extension test was conducted four times at a speed of $60^{\circ}/sec$. The HUMAC NORM (CSMI, USA) system was used to obtain the values of the peak torque and peak torque per body weight. The results were presented as norm-referenced criterion valuesusing the 5-point scale of Cajori which consists of five stages (6.06%, 24.17%, 38.30%, 24.17%, and 6.06%). In the results of this study, the peak torques of the elbow (flexor and extensor?) at an angular velocity of $60^{\circ}/sec$ were $37.88{\pm}8.14Nm$ and $44.59{\pm}11.79Nm$, and the peak torque per body weight of the elbow (flexor and extensor?) were $50.06{\pm}8.66Nm$ and $58.28{\pm}12.84Nm$, respectively. The reference values of the peak torque and peak torque per body weight of the elbow flexor and extensor were setat an angular velocity of $60^{\circ}/sec$. On the basis of the results analyzed in this study, the following conclusions were drawn. There is a lack of proper studies on the elbow joint strength, even though the most common injury in baseball players occurs in the elbow joint. Therefore, we need to establish a standard muscle strength in order to prevent elbow joint injuries and improve their performance. The criteria for the peak torque and peak torque per body weight established here in will provide useful information for high school baseball players, baseball coaches, athletic trainers and sports injury rehabilitation specialists in injury recovery and return to rehabilitation, which can beutilized as objective clinical assessment data.
