Comparative Research on the Carbon Dioxide Liquefaction Using Several Refrigerants (몇 가지 냉매를 사용한 이산화탄소 액화에 대한 비교 연구)

  • In this study, we compared the performance of several refrigeration cycles using different refrigerants and utilizing the cold heat of liquefied natural gas (LNG) for the liquefaction of carbon dioxide. The final conditions for the liquefied CO2 were set to -20℃ and 20 bar. The refrigerants used included R404a, ammonia, propane, and propylene using a vapor recompression refrigeration cycle. For the refrigeration cycle, the CO2 at room temperature and pressure was compressed in a two-stage compression process with an intermediate cooling stage using a refrigeration unit. To compare with the liquefaction process using refrigeration, we compressed the CO2 to 8 bar in a single compression stage and cooled it to around -50℃ using the cold heat of the LNG before liquefying it. Results showed that using ammonia as the refrigerant required the least amount of compressor power for the liquefaction process, and the heat transfer area of the evaporator was the smallest when using propylene as the refrigerant. Using the cold heat of LNG instead of refrigeration using R404a resulted in approximately 69% less energy consumption.

  • Due to the depletion of fossil fuel, high oil price and global warming issue by green house gas such as CO2, clean synthetic fuel technologies using biomass, especially GTL(Gas To Liquid) technology, have been greatly attracted. This paper has examined and compared the worldwide technologies trend of natural gas reforming reaction, F-T(Fisher-Tropsch) synthesis and upgrading process which are three backbones of GTL technology.

  • 세계의 석유자원은 향후 30년의 가채년수 뿐일 것이라는 추정은 이제 상식화된 느낌이다. 그래서 세계 선진국들은 석유를 대신할수 있는 에너지원으로서 석탄의 가스 액화, 수소, 원자력, 태양열광 등의 개발을 추진하고 있다. 아직 우리는 석유의 꿈을 버리지 않고 있으며, 한편으로는 원자력 발전소 건설에 기대하고 있다. 국내에도 태양에너지 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있는 줄 안다. 고리에 원자발전 제1기를 점화한 우리는 계속 2,3,4의 발전소를 계획하고 있다. 따라서 1990년대 우리 나라 소요에너지의 75%를 원자력에 두게 될 것이라는 전망이고 보면 향후 우리의 생활과 원자력 발전은 불가분의 관계를 이끌어가게 될 것으로 본다. 우리는 지금 육상에서 원자력 발전을 이용하는 단계이나 선진제국은 원자력을 선박 추진력에 이용하는 단계에 있다. 미국을 비롯해서 소련, 영국, 서독, 프랑스, 일본 등이 원자력선 개발에 열을 올리고 있어 앞으로 10년 뒤에는 원자력선 시대의 막이 올려질 것으로 전망된다.

A Study on the Characteristics of Exhaust Gas According to the Use of Gasoline and LPG in SI Engine for UTV (UTV용 SI엔진에서 가솔린과 LPG 사용에 따른 배출가스 특성 연구)

  • Even in non-road UTV (Utility Terrain Vehicle), spark ignition engines are often used to reduce emissions. In this study, gasoline and LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) fuels were applied to UTV engines, and the exhaust gas and combustion stability were compared through engine tests. A 0.8-liter two-cylinder SI engine was used in the experiment. Experiments were conducted while changing the IVO (Intake Valve Open) and EVC (Exhaust Valve Close) at 1500 rpm 14 N·m, 40 N·m, and 3000 rpm 17 N·m, 44 N·m conditions. As a result of the experiment, when the valve overlap increased according to the change of IVO and EVC, combustion stability decreased and THC emission increased, but NOx decreased. Comparing the LPG engine with the gasoline engine, the amount of CO2 and PN (Particulate Number) generation decreased in the LPG engine, and the combustion stability was good.

  • The GTL(Gas to Liquids) technology, manufacturing synthesized oil from natural gas, had been developed about 1920 for the military purpose by Fischer and Tropsch, German scientists. And 1960, Sasol company had started commercializing the FT(Fischer-Tropsch) synthesis technology, for the transport fuel in South Africa. Until a recent date, the commercialization of GTL technology had been delayed by low oil price. But concern about depletion of petroleum resources, and development in synthesizing technology lead to spotlight on the GTL businesses. Especially, Qatar, which has rich natural gas fields, aims at utilizing natural gas like conventional oil resources. Therefore, around this nation, GTL plants construction has been promoted. There are mainly 3 processes to make GTL products(Diesel, Naphtha, lube oil, etc) from natural gas. The first is synthesis gas generation unit reforming hydrogen and carbomonoxide from natural gas. The second is FT synthesis unit converting synthesized gas to polymeric chain-hydrocarbon. The third is product upgrading unit making oil products from the FT synthesized oil. There are quite a little sulfur, nitrogen, and aromatic compounds in GTL products. GTL product has environmental premium in discharging less harmful particles than refinery oil products from crude to the human body. In short, the GTL is a clean technology, easier transportation mean, and has higher stability comparing to LNG works.

  • In this paper, the towing force for the LNG bunkering barge was investigated. Currently, LNG bunkering barge is being developed as an infrastructure for the bunkering of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), an eco-friendly energy source. In the case of the LNG bunkering barge, self-propulsion is considered through retrofit from an operating point. Therefore, the LNG bunkering barge's shape is similar to that of the ship as compared to a towed barge, so a rule of the towed barge overestimates the towing force. In order to improve accuracy, the calm water resistance was calculated using ITTC 1978 method which considers wave resistance by the Rankine source method. The added resistance in waves was calculated using the modified radiated energy method which considers the shortwave correction method of NMRI. The performance of the towing resistances through the calm water resistance and the added resistance in waves was compared to rules associated with towed barges.

  • In this paper, the towing stability of the LNG bunker barge is estimated. Currently, LNG bunkering barge is being developed as an infrastructure for the bunkering of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), an eco-friendly energy source. Since the LNG bunker barge are in the form of towed ship connected to the tow line, the towing stability of the LNG bunker barge is very important for the safety of not only the LNG bunker barge but also the surrounding sailing vessels. The numerical code for towing simulation was developed to estimate the towing stability of the LNG bunker barge at the initial design stage. The MMG(Manoeuvring Mathematical Group) model was applied to the equations of motion and the empirical formula was applied to the maneuvering coefficients so that they could be used in the initial design stage. To validity of the developed numerical code, it was compared with published calculation and model test results. Towing simulations were carried out according to with and without stern skeg of the LNG bunker barge using the developed numerical code. Through the results of the simulations, the appropriateness of the stern skeg area designed was confirmed.

  • 쥴톰순 냉동기는 스터링 냉동기, GM 냉동기, 스터링형 및 GM형 맥동관 냉동기 등 기계적 극저온냉동기에 비해 단순한 구조, 수 초의 급속한 냉각특성을 장점으로 중대형의 가스액화사이클 뿐만 아니라 적외선검출기의 급속냉각, 저온수술 등 다양한 분야에서 널리 사용되어지고 있다. 일반적으로 100K 이하의 작동온도 및 수 초 수준의 빠른 냉각을 요구하는 적외선검출기의 냉각을 위해서는 수 백기압 이상 고압의 질소 및 아르곤 가스를 사용하는 쥴톰슨 냉동기가 주로 사용되고 있다. 쥴톰슨 냉동기는 핀-관(fin-tube) 형태의 열교환기와 열교환기의 구조적 기반을 제공하는 멘드렐(mandrel), 쥴톰슨 노즐 등으로 구성되며, 열교환기의 열전달 성능 및 유량조절기구의 특성은 냉동기 저온부의 냉각온도, 냉각시간 및 운전시간에 큰 영향을 미친다.

A Study on the Safe Maneuvering Technology Based on the Thermal Calculation of Membrane Type LNG Carrier (멤브레인형 LNGC의 열계산에 기초한 안전운항기술에 관한 연구)

  • This paper is concerned with the thermal design of the $138,000m^3$ class membrane type LNGC. To predict the temperature distribution, BOG and BOR, 3-dimensional numerical calculation was carried-out for the quarter of No.3 LNG tank. These sequence analyses were performed under the standard conditions of IMO ship design condition, USCG ship design condition and the Korean flag LNGC's route condition according to the 6-voyage modes. As the results, temperature behavior, heat flux, total penetrating heat, BOG and BOR were obtained, and those were compared with the maneuvering results considering the real temperature variation of air and sea water temperature at noon time. For securing the safety of LNGC during the ballast voyage, optimum control patterns of pressure and temperature in LNG tank is suggested in this paper.

  • 탄화수소 연료(LNG, LPG)를 개질하여 수소를 제조하는 연료 처리 공정 중, 탈황 기술은 촉매의 활성저하 및 전극의 피독을 방지하기 위한 필수 기술이다. 본 연구에서는 도시가스 및 액화석유 가스용 부취제로 사용되는 유기 황화합물(,DMS, THT, TBM)을 제거하기 위한 탈황제로서 Cu/ZnO계 흡착제를 개발하였다. 공침법을 이용하여 흡착제를 제조하여 각 부취제별로 상온 및 고온에서의 흡착탈황 성능을 조사하였으며 또한, 이의 특성분석을 행하였다. $Cu/ZnO/Al_2O_3$ 탈황제는 메탄으로부터 고온에서 TH, DMS, TBM+THT 등의 황화합물들을 매우 효과적으로 제거할 수 있었다. 특히, TBM+THT의 혼합가스에서 TBM에 대해 선택적인 흡착을 보였다. THT 흡착에서 흡착온도가 $300^{\circ}C$ 이상에서는, 흡착과정 동안 황의 상호작용으로 인해 금속황화물이 생성되었다.
