This paper presents the finite element analysis on the strength safety of a full containment LNG storage tank system with damping safety structures. For the FEM analysis of the inner tank, the combined loads in which are related to a hydrostatic pressure, a cryogenic temperature load, BOG pressure, LNG weight, and a sinking force at the comer of the inner tank have been applied to the inner tank structure. The FEM computed results show that the conventional inner tank is safe for the given combined loads, but the damping safety structure such as compressive springs may be more useful structures to increase the safety of the tank system. The increased stiffness and the appropriate position of the springs are very important design parameters for increasing the damping strength safety of the tank system.

Two-stage light gas gun, sorted with Ballistic Range System, is used to research spray characteristics of supersonic liquid jets. When high pressure tube was pressurized to the 135 bar, diaphragm films which composed with OHP film are ruptured. Expansion gases accelerate a projectile approximately 250 m/s at the exit of pump tube. And accelerated projectile collides with liquid storage part and liquid jets were injected into supersonic conditions. Supersonic liquid jets show the multiple jets and generate shockwave at the forward region of jets. Supersonic liquid jets of speed and shockwave angle have different value at each case. Supersonic liquid jets with minimum velocities are injected with M=1.53 at the geometry condition of L/d=23.8.

This study aims to investigate the effects of soybean biodiesel fuel on exhaust emissions with regards to two combustion modes: conventional combustion(existence of PM-NOx trade-off behavior) and low temperature combustion(LTC) in a 1.7 L common rail direct injection diesel engine. As compared to conventional combustion, LTC was achieved by adopting a heavier exhaust gas recirculation and strategic injection parameter optimization. Two sets of fuels, i.e. ultra low sulfur diesel(ULSD) and 20% volumetric blends of soybean biodiesel with ULSD(B20) were used. Regardless of the fuel type, in LTC the simultaneous reduction of PM and NOx was observed and both levels were significantly lower than in case of conventional combustion. Under the given engine operating condition in the case of conventional combustion, B20 produced less PM and more NOx than ULSD. In the case of LTC combustion, B20 produced more PM and NOx than ULSD.
Development of hydrogen station system is an important technology to commercialize fuel cells and fuel cell powered vehicles. Generally, hydrogen station consists of hydrogen production process including desulfurizer, reformer, water gas shift (WGS) reactor and pressure swing adsorption (PSA) apparatus, and post-treatment process including compressor, storage and distributer. In this review, we investigate the R&D trends and prospects of hydrogen station in domestic and foreign countries for opening the hydrogen economy society. Indeed, the reforming of fossil fuels for hydrogen production will be essential technology until the ultimate process that may be water hydrolysis using renewable energy source such as solar energy, wind force etc, will be commercialized in the future. Hence, we also review the research trends on unit technologies such as the desulfurization, reforming reaction of fossil fuels, water gas shift reaction and hydrogen separation for hydrogen station applications.
The evaporation heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop of R-22 and R-407C in horizontal copper tubes were investigated experimentally. The main components of therefrigerant loop are a receiver, a compressor, a mass flow meter, a condenser and a double pipe type evaporator (test section). The test section consists of a smooth copper tube of 4.3 mm and 6.4 mm inner diameter. The refrigerant mass fluxes were varied from 100 to $300[kg/m^2s]$ and the saturation temperature of evaporator were 5 [$^{\circ}C$]. The evaporation heat transfer coefficients of R-22 and R-407C rise with the increase in mass flux and vapor quality. The evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-22 for inner diameter tube of 4.3 mm and 6.4 mm is about $7.3{\sim}47.1%$ and $5.68{\sim}46.6%$ higher than that of R-407C, respectively.
In order to apply the properties of fiber reinforced plastic(FRP) to support panel of polyurethane foam in LNG storage tank, we estimated the mechanical properties, degree of vapour barrier, chemical stability and thermal conductivity changes as ageing. According to the results, the mechanical strength (i.g. compressive strength, bending strength, tensile strength and shear strength) are more than 30 times higher than those of plywood. The FRP-polyurethane foam(PUF) composites have lower thermal conductivity changes as ageing than plywood-PUF composites. FRP-PUF sandwich composite for LNG storage tank with these remarkable properties are compared the abilities of these structures with those of the conventional structures(plywood-PUF sandwich composite). Finally, we can obtain the effects such as superior mechanical properties and fuel saving through improved ability of vapor barrier.
This study performed a quantitative risk assessment for hydrogen-CNG complex refueling stations. Individual and societal risks were calculated by deriving accident scenarios that could occur at hydrogen and CNG refueling stations and by considering the frequency of accidents occurring for each scenario. As a result of the risk assessment, societal risk levels were within the acceptable range. However, individual risk has occurred outside the allowable range in some areas. To identify and manage risk components, high risk components were discovered through risk contribution analysis. High risks at the hydrogen-CNG complex refueling station were large leakage from CNG storage containers, compressors, and control panels. The sum of these risks contributed to approximately 88% of the overall risk of the fueling station. Therefore, periodic and intensive safety management should be performed for these high-risk elements.
Chiller systems which have better temperature stability than Direction expansion coils are often used as condensing units in HVAC systems for offshore plants. Large capacity compressors and electronic expansion valves in chiller systems are mostly imported, and the size of a chiller system depends on heat exchangers such as evaporators and condensers which are locally produced. Due to limited space in the offshore plants, shipyards are demanding manufacturers to make equipment compact. In this paper, a shell & tube heat exchanger, which is used as an evaporator in the conventional flooded chiller system, is replaced by a newly developed compact plate & shell heat exchanger. The main development process of the plate & shell heat exchanger is introduced, and its performances were experimentally evaluated with a real flooded chiller system, and the results are presented.
The physical properties of rigid polyurethane foam(PUF) synthesized using various types of blowing agents such as water, HFC-365mfc, HFC-245fa, HCFC-l4lb, CFC-11 and n-pentane were studied. The blending effect of blowing agents were also studied. The thermal conductivity, reaction rate, and cell morphology of the PUF with various blending ratio of blowing agents were investigated. The PUF blown by water shows the highest compressive strength among other single blowing agents. The thermal conductivity of PUFs blown by HFC-245fa and HFC-365mfc are close to that of PUFs blown by CFC-11. When HFC-365mfc was mixed with HFC-245fa(30mo1e$\%$) as coblowing agent, the mechanical property shows the highest value among other coblowing agents. It is that the thermal conductivity of PUFs depends on cell size of PUFs as well as thermal conductivity of blowing agent in gaseous form.
This paper presents production data analysis for two production wells located in the shale gas field, Canada, with the proper analysis method according to each production performance characteristics. In the case A production well, the analysis was performed by applying both time and superposition time because the production history has high variation. Firstly, the flow regimes were classified with a log-log plot, and as a result, only the transient flow was appeared. Then the area of simulated reservoir volume (SRV) analyzed based on flowing material balance plot was calculated to 180 acres of time, and 240 acres of superposition time. And the original gas in place (OGIP) also was estimated to 15, 20 Bscf, respectively. However, as the area of SRV was not analyzed with the boundary dominated flow data, it was regarded as the minimum one. Therefore, the production forecasting was conducted according to variation of b exponent and the area of SRV. As a result, estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) increased 1.2 and 1.4 times respectively depending on b exponent, which was 0.5 and 1. In addition, as the area of SRV increased from 240 to 360 acres, EUR increased 1.3 times. In the case B production well, the formation compressibility and permeability depending on the overburden were applied to the analysis of the overpressured reservoir. In comparison of the case that applied geomechanical factors and the case that did not, the area of SRV was increased 1.4 times, OGIP was increased 1.5 times respectively. As a result of analysis, the prediction of future productivity including OGIP and EUR may be quite different depending on the analysis method. Thus, it was found that proper analysis methods, such as pseudo-time, superposition time, geomechanical factors, need to be applied depending on the production data to gain accurate results.
