Variation of Magnetic Properties of Fe-Si Compressed Cores with Si Content (Si 함량에 따른 Fe-Si 압분코어의 자기적 특성)

  • Fe-3, 4.2 and 6.8% Si compressed cores were fabricated, and then electrical resistivity, AC and DC magnetic properties, microhardness, and other properties were analyzed in order to know whether best soft magnetic properties could be also obtained in an Fe-Si compressed core with the well-known composition of Fe-6.5% Si. With increasing the silicon content, eddy current loss and hysteresis loss decreased and increased, respectively, so that a minimum total loss was not obtained in the well-known Fe-6.8 % Si cores, but obtained in the Fe-4.2 % Si cores. Also electrical resistivity of the cores and hardness of the particles increased monotonously with silicon content so that compaction ratio of the cores decreased. B2 and $DO_3$ ordered phase could be observed only in Fe-6.8% Si powder. A minimum loss and highest permeability of the Fe-4.2 % Si cores can be explained by the ratio of specific electrical resistivity of insulator to that of magnetic particles, micro-hardness, compaction ratio and demagnetization coefficient of the Fe-Si powder particles with silicon content.

Effects of Al Doping on Sinterabllity and Microstructure in $UO_2-6wt%Gd_2O_3$ Pellets ($UO_2-6wt%Gd_2O_3$ 소결체에서 Al 첨가가 소결성 및 미세조직에 미치는 영향)

  • The sinterability and the microstructure of Al doped UO$_2$-6wt%Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets, which were doped using Al(OH)$_3$, ADS(aluminium distearate), Al(OH)$_3$+ ADS mixture and sintered at 1$700^{\circ}C$ for 4h in H$_2$, atmospheres, were examined. The sintered densities of Al doped UO$_2$-6wt%Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets were more than 94% T.D.. The open porosity in ADS doped pellets was dramatically decreased. And the amounts of pores less than l${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and larger than 10${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ were decreased regardless of the kinds of doped Al compounds. And the average pore size of Al doped UO$_2$-6wt%Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets was ranged between 2 and 3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$. While grain structure of non-doped UO$_2$-6wt%Gd$_2$O$_3$pellets was revealed to be duplex type (rocks in sands), that of Al doped pellets to be uniformly equiaxid type. Especially, the grain size in ADS doped pellets was averaged to 4.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

  • ZrO2 powders stabilized with Y2O3 and CeO2 of various compositions were prepared by the coprecipitation of water-soluble ZrOCl2.8H2O, YCl3.6H2O and Ce(NO3)3.6H2O, and their compacts were pressurelessly sintered at 1400 and 150$0^{\circ}C$ for 2hrs in air. 2mol% Y2O3-ZrO3 showed the most superior strength (1003MPa) and microhardness (12.6GPa), while 10 mol%CeO2-ZrO2 had the hightest toughness (13.3 MPa.m1/2) after sintering at 140$0^{\circ}C$. The addition of Y2O3 into Y2O3-ZrO3 decreased mean grain size and increased strength and hardness but decrease toughness. On the other hand, the addition of CeO2 into Y2O3-ZrO2 enhanced the stability of tetragonal phase during low-temperature aging for a long time under hydrothermal atmosphere.

Graphite Spheroidization in Cast Iron by Addition of Misch Metal Hydrides (주철(鑄鐵)의 흑연(黑鉛)구상화에 미치는 Misch Metal Hydride의 첨가효과(添加效果))

  • 3.9%C-2.0%Si-Fe 조성의 압분체(壓粉體)를 $1350^{\circ}$, Ar가스 분위기에서 50분간 용해한 용탕에 시판(市販) misch metal과 misch metal hydride인 MmH와 $MmH_2$를 각각 여러비율로 첨가(添加)한후 서냉(徐冷)및 급냉(急冷)한 시편의 흑연형상(黑鉛形狀)의 변화로부터 misch metal hydride의 구상화능(球狀化能)과 흑연구상화(黑鉛球狀化) 기구(機構) 로서의 기포설(氣泡說)의 타당성을 고찰한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1) Misch metal은 0.5% 이상, 그리고 misch metal hydride는 0.25% 이상 첨가한 때 구상흑연(球狀黑鉛)과 CV 흑연(黑鉛)이 나타났으며, misch metal hydride를 첨가한 때가 misch metal에 비하여 흑연립수(黑鉛粒數)가 더 많았다. 이와같이 misch metal hydride의 첨가량이 misch metal에 비하여 적었음에도 흑연립수(黑鉛粒數)가 더 많은 것을 보면 Mm으로부터 방출되는 다수(多數)의 수소기포(水素氣泡)가 구상흑연(球狀黑鉛)의 정출장소로 되는 것으로 해석되기 때문에 기포설(氣泡說)이 타당하다고 생각된다. 2) Misch metal 과 misch metal hydride의 첨가량(添加量)이 1.0%로 증가되면 두경우 모두 흑연립수(黑鉛粒數)가 감소하였다. 이는 용탕중에 개재된 수소기포(水素氣泡)의 실수율차이에 의한 잔류 수소기포수의 증가율둔화와 첨가량(添加量)의 증가에 따른 잔류 misch metal량의 상대적(相對的) 증가로 인한 다량의 잔류 misch metal이 응고과정에서 수소를 재흡수 용해하여 흑연입수를 결정하는 용탕중의 유효수소기포수(有效水素氣泡數)를 감소시켰기 때문으로 생각된다.

  • Al2O3/t-ZrO2 particulate composites were prepared by sintering at 150$0^{\circ}C$ and 1$600^{\circ}C$ for 2h in air and microstructure and mechanical properties of the composites were investigated. Although most ZrO2 particles existed at Al2O3 grain boundaries a few ZrO2 particles within Al2O3 grains. Al2O3 grain growth was depressed due to the pinning effect by ZrO2 particles. During sintering coarsening of intergranular ZrO2 particles occurred as a results of the elimination of ZrO2 intraagglomerate grain boundaries and the coalescence of dragged ZrO2 particles by migrating Al2O3 grain boundries. Changes in mechanical properties of Al2O3 composites were dependant on microstructure of Al2O3 matrix and on size and structure of dispersed ZrO2.

  • We investigated the changes of (U, Ce)$O_2$ powder characteristics with $CeO_2$ contents and ball-milling time and then studied on the sintering properties with those (U, Ce)$O_2$ powder characteristics. From the results of this study, it was concluded that the longer ball-milling time of (U, Ce)$O_2$ powder was, the finer its particle size was. Green and sintered densities were decreased with $CeO_2$ contensts increase. And also $CeO_2$ was recongized deteriorating oxide on the $UO_2$ sintering. In case of the lOwt. % $CeO_2$ contents, (U, Ce)$O_2$ sintered pellet which was made of ball-milled powder for 4 hours had few pores and its pores got near to the sphere. And its sintered density had the highest. Because its powder had higher surface area and its packing ratio was appropriated much better than others.

Optimization of Process Variables for Insulation Coating of Conductive Particles by Response Surface Methodology (반응표면분석법을 이용한 전도성물질의 절연코팅 프로세스의 최적화)

  • The powder core, conventionally fabricated from iron particles coated with insulator, showed large eddy current loss under high frequency, because of small specific resistance. To overcome the eddy current loss, the increase in the specific resistance of powder cores was needed. In this study, copper oxide coating onto electrically conductive iron particles was performed using a planetary ball mill to increase the specific resistance. Coating factors were optimized by the Response surface methodology. The independent variables were the CuO mass fraction, mill revolution number, coating time, ball size, ball mass and sample mass. The response variable was the specific resistance. The optimization of six factors by the fractional factorial design indicated that CuO mass fraction, mill revolution number, and coating time were the key factors. The levels of these three factors were selected by the three-factors full factorial design and steepest ascent method. The steepest ascent method was used to approach the optimum range for maximum specific resistance. The Box-Behnken design was finally used to analyze the response surfaces of the screened factors for further optimization. The results of the Box-Behnken design showed that the CuO mass fraction and mill revolution number were the main factors affecting the efficiency of coating process. As the CuO mass fraction increased, the specific resistance increased. In contrast, the specific resistance increased with decreasing mill revolution number. The process optimization results revealed a high agreement between the experimental and the predicted data ($Adj-R^2=0.944$). The optimized CuO mass fraction, mill revolution number, and coating time were 0.4, 200 rpm, and 15 min, respectively. The measured value of the specific resistance of the coated pellet under the optimized conditions of the maximum specific resistance was $530k{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$.

  • The pressure distribution between body and seat surface has been considered as one of the most important factors which affect seation comfort. The pattern of body pressure distribution has been an index of measuring comfort of an automobile seat. There has been numerous studies that measured the body pressure distribution. But, studies have many problems(pressure distortion, resolution, reliability, portability, usability, and shape fitness) in measuring the body pressure distribution. In this study, the new body pressure distribution measuring equipment has been developed by using the thin, flat, and polymer-film devices known as Force Sensing Resistors(FSRs) in order to solve those problems.

  • The densification behaviors of mixtures of copper and steel powders during cold die compaction were investigated. We proposed the pressure-dependent yield function based on the rule of the mixtures of each yield function of a critical relative density type. The constitutive equations were implemented into a finite element program (DEFORM2D) to analyze the densification and deformation behavior of powder mixtures, and the simulated results are in good agreement with the experimental results in reference studies.

Combustion Synthesis of Fibrous Silicon Carbide (고온연소합성을 이용한 섬유형 탄화규소의 합성)

  • 장경비가 큰 탄화규소를 탄소와 규소간의 고온연소반응으로 제조하기 위하여 공정변수에 따른 연소거동과 미세조직의 변화를 조사하였다. 연소합성된 생성물은 주로 $\beta$-SiC이며 연소반응이 충분히 진행되지 못하였을 경우에는 미량의 잔류 반응물과 $\alpha$-SiC가 관찰되었다. 생성된 탄화규소의 평균입도는 약 5$\mu\textrm{m}$로 작았으며, $1300^{\circ}C$ 이상의 예열 조건에서 장경비가 30이상인 탄화규소를 합성할 수 있었다. 압분 강도가 69MPa인 분말의 성형체에서 평균 연소 온도와 평균 전파 속도는 각각 약 $1425^{\circ}C$와 2.1mm/sec 범위이며, 연소 온도는 흑연 분말을 사용하였을 경우가 탄소 섬유를 사용한 경우보다 약 $10^{\circ}C$ 높았다. 연소 반응을 임의로 중단시킨 시편의 계면을 EDX와 Auger 전자 현미경으로 분석한 결과 상호 확산층이 관찰되지 않았다. 이는 탄화규조의 연소합성이 용해-석출 모델에 의하여 진행됨을 시사한다. 예열 온도에 따른 연소 반응 중의 온도 분포를 유한 요소법으로 해석함으로써 $2500^{\circ}C$의 초기 연소 개시 온도에 대하여 예열 온도 $300^{\circ}C$에서는 연소파가 거의 전파할 수 없으며 예열 온도가 $1300^{\circ}C$에서는 시료 내부에 자체 전파가 가능한 $2000^{\circ}C$이상의 온도 구역이 존재함을 알았다.
