  • Significance of SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellite regadless of weather have grown for Earth observation. According to the cost-effective trend in satellite development, SAR antenna is actively studied. It's a competitive candidate to use deployable SAR antenna out of CFRP. In this study, variables for an antenna configuration model was researched and evaluated. The design of the antenna was structurally analyzed by FEM(Finite Element Model). Tool-kit was developed for modifying the SAR antenna model easily in accordance with system requirement change. In the tool-kit, antenna configuration design and error analysis of the antenna surface could be achieved. And compatibility of tool-kit results to CST, a RF analysis program, was confirmed.

  • As a marine leisure industry has being developed and demands for leisure culture have rapidly increased, the needs for services offering marine safety and related information are growing. Accordingly, in the study I developed the contents providing server to support this with ENC agent who presents geographical information of digitalized Electronic Nautical Chart satisfying with the standard(S-57) by International Hydrographic Organization and a web searching agent who builds a database by collecting marine-related information in order to provide a variety of realtime information such as weather, fishing and news. In addition, I designed and embodied network based mobile contents which can be presented on a WIPI(Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability) based portable handset by receiving an ENC and other processed information from server. With the results produced by such experiments, I measured a compressibility corresponding to a image compression format of electronic nautical chart transmitted and analyzed the correlation between increase in packets of requested information and the cost.

  • The stability of openings in the underground mine is major concern in the operation of mines that must ensure productivity and safety. Among many rock conditions affecting cavities stability, the width and height of the opening is an important design factor. In this paper, we consider to determine the maximum unsupported span of a opening in a limestone mine by using the Q system among several rock classification schemes. In order to determine the span of the unsupported opening in the limestone mine, rock mass classifications were carried out at over 200 sites in the underground limestone mines. The relationships by using the Q system and the stability graph proposed by Mathews to determine the maximum span of the unsupported opening were derived and compared. We propose a new classification method that combines GSI and RMR rock classification systems to make it easy to use in a field.

  • This research was conducted to determine the optimum lifting positions on precast concrete slabs for precast concrete pavement construction, based on the analysis of concrete stress distribution under various lifting conditions. To analyze stresses in concrete slabs, the finite element method was implemented and a numerical model of the precast slab that was going to be used in the experimental construction was developed. Changes in the stress distribution due to the lifting angle were investigated because slab lifting is not always performed in the perpendicular direction to the slab surface. In addition, the effect of the lifting level, the distance between the neutral axis of the slab and the lifting point, on the stress distribution was investigated since the lifting point is not always at the neutral axis of the slab. To consider the actual steel design of the precast slab, the effect of the reinforcement near the lifting point was also investigated. From this study, the optimum lifting positions of the precast slabs were determined according to the lifting angle and level, and the results were compared with the lifting positions used in the PCI standards.

  • A vent-relief valve performs as a safety-valve assembly for liquid propellant feeding system of space launch vehicle, which relives pressurant propellant tanks during the filling and the flight. At vent mode, valve is opened and closed by driving pneumatic pressure, and at relief mode, valve is automatically operated to set relief pressure. In this study, we have analyzed a basic layout of vent-relief valve which is designed using foreign LVs(Saturn) to satisfy requirements of Korean Space Launch Vehicle. The simulation model of vent-relief valve is designed by using the AMESim code to verify design parameters and evaluate pneumatic behaviors of valve. In this study, we performed dynamic characteristic simulations on design parameters. And we could predict opening/closing time and pressures, operating performances on design parameters. Using this results, we could suggest detail design and boundary conditions of design.

  • Recently, the accidents on the sea have arisen due to the increase of the nautical traffic and the digitization of equipments for marine. Therefore, IMO(International Maritime Organization) have provided the recommendation of EMI and EMS for radio communication and equipments of marine from SOLAS cobvention at July 1st 2002. In this paper, we measured EMC environment on the HANBADA, which is Korea Maritime University training ship, for basic EMC environment of a ship. The measuring point was Bridge and Engine Control Room of the ship, we measured the test point that was set at random. Measured Band is from 30 MHz to 2 GHz, polarization measurement is processed both vertical and horizontal polarizaion. We analysed the results in consideration of permissible criteria.

  • In the existing method to design geosynthetic reinforced embankment, the required strength of reinforcements is determined by vertical stress only rather than strain. This strength is not in accord with tensile strength that behaves as reinforcement in earth structures. The reinforcement and adjacent soil on the failure plan behave in one unit at the initial stress phase but they make a gap in strain as stress increases. This issue may cause a big impact as a critical factor on geosynthetic reinforcement design in earth structures. The quantitative analysis on strain behavior was performed with a PET Mat reinforced embankment on soft ground. From this study, several outstanding discussions are found that tensile strength of reinforcement governs the failure of embankment when the soil stress is greater than failure stress. Also the optimum required tensile strength of geosynthetic reinforcement(Tos) should be determined by stress, displacement, displacement gap and safety factor of soil-PET Mat at the location of PET Mat.

  • By using topology and shape optimization, a theoretically optimum FRP deck was proposed. Firstly, a topologically optimal shape, truss-like structure without hinges, was found. A truss-shape frame is the most ideal structure when subjected to a concentrated force at the center of simply supported beam. An armature was found at the point joining horizontal chord and diagonal chord, which was used as a new design variable. Secondly, optimum value of each variable was decided through shape optimization using genetic algorithm. To compare it with existing commercial FRP decks, shape optimization was performed by fixing the height of FRP decks. To verify the performance of the FRP deck proposed in this study, a finite element analysis was performed. As a result, it satisfies serviceability and safety guide lines of FRP decks.

  • Advanced surface movement guidance and control system (A-SMGCS) is a system providing routing, guidance and surveillance for the control of aircraft and vehicles in order to maintain the predetermined surface movement rate under all weather conditions while maintaining the required level of safety. In the present study, system engineering was introduced to develop the compliance procedure for the A-SMGCS. At first, requirements for the level IV A-SMGCS were defined and analyzed from the concept of operations (CONOPS). Then, system architecture and specifications were constructed through the functional analysis and allocation. After that, work breakdown structure (WBS) and related integrated master schedule (IMS) were established. Lastly, compliance checklist (CCL) and test and evaluation master plan (TEMP) were developed to verify and validate the system.

  • The prosperity of IT technologies and the removal of restrictions regarding Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), also known as drones, have driven growth in their popularity. However, without a proper solution to the problem of accident avoidance for UAVs, this popularity increases the potential for collisions between UAVs and between UAV and terrain features. These collisions can occur because UAVs to date have flown using radio control or image recognition based autonomous navigation. Therefore, we propose efficient UAV routing schemes to tackle the collision problem using vehicular communication systems. Performance evaluation by computer simulation shows that the proposed methods effectively reduce the collision probability and improve the routing efficiency of the UAV. Furthermore, the proposed algorithms are compatible and can be directly applied with small overhead to the commercial vehicular communication system implementation.
