A Study on Aid in Dying (조력사망(Aid in Dying)에 대한 고찰)

  • "Aid in Dying" means that when a decision-making patient suffers from an incurable disease, a drug that can speed up death is prescribed by a doctor and used to lead to death. Since the suspension of life-sustaining treatment was institutionalized based on human dignity and patient autonomy, the question of whether assisted death can be legally justified in relation to the right to receive medical help to shorten one's life to die with dignity has recently been actively discussed. In Korea, since the suspension of life-sustaining treatment was institutionalized by the enactment of the Life-sustaining Treatment Decision Act in 2016, an amendment to the Life-sustaining Treatment Act was recently proposed to legalize Aid in Dying. The global trend is that human "Right to Die" is discussed in the division of life and death, from the suspension of life-sustaining treatment to assisted death, and again in the order of euthanasia. In this paper, we started discussing dignified death and institutionalized patients' right to self-determination, looked at the controversy in the United States, which legislated assisted death in many states since the 2000s, and analyzed the main contents of California's End of Life Option Act and the data after enforcement. The strict requirements for Aid in Dying, such as voluntary confirmation of patients' intentions and doctors' obligation to provide information, and the results of California's Aid in dying system, composed of relatively diverse races, were reviewed.

Imaging Diagnosis: Biphasic Synovial Sarcoma in a Dog (개에서 발생한 이상성 활막육종 증례)

  • An 11-year-old castrated male, Shih-tzu dog was admitted for progressive weight-bearing lameness and mass on the right hindlimb. Radiography and ultrasonography revealed a large well-marginated multinodular mass with mixed echogenicity. On T1 and T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), the mass has a heterogenous signal intensity similar to or higher than muscle. The masses were extended to the pelvic cavi쇼 through obturator foramen and displaced the rectum dorsally. It was diagnosed as synovial sarcoma which was composed with mesenchymal and epithelial elements on histopathological findings of the multifocal biopsied specimen. MRI was helpful to determine the definitive margin for surgical resection of the mass. The mass was recurred at the 6th month after surgery. On the 10th month, the patient was euthanasiuzed by owner's request.

  • 현대 사회의 급속한 발전 속에 네트워크 분야는 급속한 발전을 이루고 있다. 급변하는 네트워크 시장에서 홈 네트워크 분야는 일반인들에게 많은 관심을 증대시키고 있으며, 보다 안락한 생활을 위한 욕구의 충족을 위하여 자신의 주거지에 홈 네트워크를 구축하거나 홈 네트워크가 구현된 주거지를 선택하는 현상이 두드러지게 증대하고 있다. 이러한 현상에 발맞추어 홈 네트워크 시장의 규모는 빠른 속도로 증가하고 있는 실정이며, 이를 위한 여러 분야에 걸친 연구와 상업성을 기반으로 발전하고 그 적용범위를 확장하고 있다. 이러한 홈 네트워크의 구현은 점점 기술의 발달함에 따라 그 기능 또한 점점 복잡하고 다양한 프로세서의 처리를 필요로 하는 경향이 두드러지고 있다. 홈 네트워크 시스템은 여러 가지 요소에 의해 영향을 받기 때문에 시스템의 설계는 상당히 중요한 과정에 해당된다. 이에 본 논문에서는 임베디드 계발장비와 STR710F칩을 이용하여 확장성을 고려하여 홈 네트워크 시스템 노드를 구성하고, 이를 활용한 홈 네트워크 시스템을 설계하였다.

  • 한국의 자동차산업은 생산능력이 경제단위로 들어서고, 수출을 통해 선진국 자동차산체와 세계시 장에서 경합을 하지 않으면 안 될 성년기에 접어들고 있다. 따라서 경험적 강화를 위해서는 생 산단위의 증가 뿐만 아니라 자체기술개발능력도 향상해야 한다. 기술개발의 첫째 화제가 현재 외국으로부터 기술도입한 제품의 자체개발이 대상으로 된다는 것은 재론의 여지가 없다. 그러나, 앞으로 제품개발을 해 나가는데 수반되는 기술개발을 효과적으로 하기 위해서는, 선진자동차산 업의 기술개발동향과 Marketing차원에서 시장변활를 연밀히 분석, 검토함으로써 기술개발과제를 중점적으로 선택하고, 연구설비투자와 연구인력을 성별투입해야 할 것이다. 이런 관점에서 최 근의 자동차기술 개발동향을 개관하고 1980년대 후반의 개발동향을 전망해 보고자 한다. 자동차 제품기술은, 첫재 석유와 원재로, 부품, 노동력의 가격상승과 둘재 환경, 안전도, 연비면의 규제 강화, 셋째 사용자의 편이 안락한 문전의 추구라고 하는 세가지 주요인의 이호연관에 의해 그 개발방향이 결정된다고 할 수 있다. 현재, 미,일 자동차업체는, 가솔린 및 디젤 왕복내연기관 의 기존 동력원과 FF, FR 및 4WD의 기존구동방식을 유지하면서, 엔진 등 주요기능부품의 최적 제어와 운전자의 편이성향상 및 운전정보 제공을 위한 전자기술의 적용, 경량재질 및 세라믹스 등의 신소재 적용, 실용화, 그리고 유가상승에 대비한 대체연료의 개발연구를 주개발과제로 삼고 있으며, 이 주세는 80년대 후반까지 지속될 것으로 보여진다.

Satisfaction Evaluation for Orthoses by using QUEST (QUEST를 이용한 보조기(orthoses) 사용 만족도 평가)

  • This study presents a unique way to improve consumer-oriented service for assistive orthosis products. Satisfaction and important factors were analyzed based on responses from disabled people who have used the orthoses. We surveyed 185 disabled people with QUEST (Quebec User Evaluation of Satisfaction with assistive Technology), and we conducted in-depth interviews with 25 individuals. The average satisfaction score was 3.68 (orthoses satisfaction: 3.78; service satisfaction: 3.52). For each item, the highest score was effectiveness, and the lowest one was cost. As important factors for each item, the participants selected cost, comfort, repair, and service. The fee system for orthoses needs rational revision, and a delivery system should be constructed for follow-up services such as repair.

  • 공동구는 도시생활을 영위하는 데 필요한 전기, 가스, 상 하수도, 전화, 통신 등의 공공시설물을 지하매설물 형태로 설치하여 시민들의 일상생활 및 사회 경제활동의 편의성을 제공하고 안전하고 안락한 도시환경을 유지시키며, 효율적인 도시운영이 가능케 하는 공공시설물이다. 그러나, 최근 들어 여의도 공동구 화재(2000년), 여수 공동구 침수(2003년), 구리시 전력구 화재(2006)등과 같이 공동구 및 전력구에서의 화재, 혹은 침수 등에 의해 재해가 발생하여 이로 인한 국가적 경제적, 사회적 손실이 늘어가고 있다. 하지만 국내에서는 공동구내 설비를 화재 및 재해로부터 보호하기 위한 법적 장치가 미비한 실정이며, 현재 운영되고 있는 공동구의 관리 또한 시설관리공단이나 위탁관리기관 등으로 분산되어 있어 일정한 시설물 설치기준이나 유지관리제도가 정립되지 못하여 효율적인 운영이 이루어지지 않다고 판단된다. 본 연구에서는 근래 국내에서 발생한 공동구 재해사례와 공동구 관련 법규를 검토 분석하였으며, 다양화되어 가는 공동구 수용시설 조건에 부합하고 체계적이고 효율적인 공동구의 시공을 위한 공동구 건설기준 제정방안을 도출하였다.

  • About 350 shelters nationwide go through about 100,000 organic animals every year. If you are not adopted by the adoption candidate, you will be euthanized in just one out of every fourteen days after entering the shelter. Therefore, in order to prevent the occurrence of organic animals, it is necessary to register the companion animal easily and to register the inscription to manage the history. In this paper, we propose a local technician who can describe feature points in inscription images to develop recognition technology through inscription, which can distinguish companion animals such as human fingerprints.

Renal Amyloidosis in a Beagle (비글견에서 신장 아밀로이드증 증례)

  • An eight-year-old intact male Beagle had anorexia, vomiting, depression for two days. The dog had hypoalbuminenia and mild azotemia on hematologic and clinical chemistry examinations. Severe proteinuria was identified on urinalysis. On abdominal ultrasonographs, there were small amount of ascites and bilateral renomegaly with severe hyperechoic renal cortex and hyperechoic medullary rim sign. Renal biopsy and histopathology revealed renal amyloidosis. The quality of life in this dog was satisfactory with aggressive supportive care for three months. Euthanasia was performed due to deteriorated azotemia and nephrotic syndrome.

  • Shock vibrations are usually experienced in vehicles excited by impulsive input, such as bumps. The frequency weighting functions of the current standards in ISO 2631 and BS 6841 are to help objectively predict the amount of discomfort of stationary vibration. This experimental study was designed to develop frequency weighting shape for shock vibration having various fundamental frequencies from 0.5 to 16Hz. The specks were produced from the response of single. degree-of-freedom model to a half-sine force input. Fifteen subjects used the magnitude estimation method to judge the discomfort of vertical shock vibration generated on the rigid seat mounted on the simulator. The magnitudes of the shocks, expressed in terms of both peak-to-peak value and un-weighted vibration dose values (VDVs) , were correlated with magnitude estimates of the discomfort. The frequency weighting shapes from the correlation were developed and investigated having nonlinearity due to the magnitude of the shock.

A Quadtree-based Disparity Estimation for 3D Intermediate View Synthesis (3차원 중간영상의 합성을 위한 쿼드트리기반 변이추정 방법)

  • In stereoscopic or multi-view three dimensional display systems, the synthesis of intermediate sequences is inevitably needed to assure look-around capability and continuous motion parallax so that it could enhance comfortable 3D perception. The quadtree-based disparity estimation is one of the most remarkable methods for synthesis of Intermediate sequences due to the simplicity of its algorithm and hardware implementation. In this paper, we propose two ideas in order to reduce the annoying flicker at the object boundaries of synthesized intermediate sequences by quadtree-based disparity estimation. First, new split-scheme provides more consistent auadtree-splitting during the disparity estimation. Secondly, adaptive temporal smoothing using correlation between present frame and previous one relieves error of disparity estimation. Two proposed Ideas are tested by using several stereoscopic sequences, and the annoying flickering is remarkably reduced by them.
