Photoisomerization of Polymer by Esterification Reaction between Poly vinyl alcohol and Azobenzene-containing Long Chain Fatty Acids (아조벤젠을 함유한 장쇄지방산과 폴리 비닐알코올간의 에스테르화 반응에 의한 폴리머의 광이성화 현상에 관한 연구)

  • The Synthesis of azobenzene containing long chain fatty acid and poly vinyl alcohol by esterification reaction($C_{n}-Azo-PVA$) was optimized, starting from P-(P'-hydroxy phenyl azo)-benzoic acid and the product of reaction containing azobenzene chromophores was investigated by ultraviolet spectrophotometery in toluene solvent at room temperature. In addition, UV absorption spectra of Langmmuir Blodggett (LB) film deposited on quartz plate have been measured and the structure of these compounds were ascertained by means of Ultraviolet and FT-IR. Recrystallization of reaction product in the solvent results the experimental yield obtained about 22.27% P-(P'-octadecyloxy phenyl azo)-benzoic acid-poly vinyl alcohol. Long chain azobenzene derivative-poly vinyl alcohols are induced phtoisomerization by u, v, and visible light irradiation. The LB film of azobenzene containing long chain fatty acids($C_{18}-Azo-PVA$) are possible of being applied to functional molecular devices such as photomemory and light switching.

  • We have investgated the photoisomerization using light irradiation 8A5H LB film accumulated by monolayer and three layers on an ITO. We determined electrochemical measurement by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system, An Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode measured in 0.1mol/L NaClO$_4$ solution. The scan rate was 100mv/s.

  • The functionlized dendrimer containing 48 azobenzene was synthesized. Many isolated featureless domains were explicitly observed even at the air-water interface. Also, these monolayers were representatively observed, showing the change of surface pressure with irradiation time and wavelength. In AFM images. the larger domains irregularly shaped structures on the top while the smaller ones were free from such defects. In the optical absorption spectra of the LB films by UV irradiation and heat treatment, only photoisomerization of the G4-48Az monolayers was observed, a decrease of absorbance peak without change of the spectral shape. This suggests that optical behavior and morphological change are affected by the functional group and the symmetric chain.

  • 아조벤젠 고분자는 광 정보저장 및 광 스위치 소자 등의 응용가능성 때문에 많은 연구가 진행되어왔다. 이것은 바로 아조 분자가 가지고 있는 두 이성체 간의 광 이성화 과정에 의한 아조 분자의 정렬과 이 때문에 야기되는 광 유도 anisotropy가 생기는 특성 때문이다. 이와 더불에 아조 분자 필름에 빛을 쪼여 주었을 때 표면에 주기적인 부조 격자(SRG)가 형성됨이 보고 된 이후에 광 정보 저장은 물론 액정의 anchoring 이나 phase mask로의 응용, 특히 photonic band gap(PBG) 효과를 기대 할 수 있는 주기구조 형성에의 응용성 때문에 더욱 관심이 집중되고 있다.   • The Synthesis of long chain fatty acid containing azobenzene and $(C_{n}-Azo)$ was optimized, starting from p-(p'-hydroxy phenyl azo)-benzoic acid and the product of reaction containing azobenzene chromophores was investigated by ultraviolet spectrophotometery in chloroform solvent at the various temperature. In addition, Reversibility and stability of azo compounds have been measured by means of Ultraviolet and the structure of these compound were ascertained by means of FT-IR and NMR. Recrystallization of reaction product in the solvent results the experimental yield obtained about 62.93% p-(p'-octadecyloxy phenyl azo)-benzoic acid. Long chain azobenzene derivatives in chloroform solution are induced photoisomerization by u. v. and visible light irradiation. The solution of long chain fatty acids$(C_{n}-Azo)$ containing azobenzene are possible of being applied to functional molecular devices such as photomemory and light switching.

  • Four aminoazobenzene disperse dyes derived from different N-ethyl-N-substitutedalkylanilines and 2-chloro-4-nitroaniline, were synthesized and their chemical structure were analyzed by 500 MHz NMR spectroscopy. The wavelength of maximum absorption of the synthesized dyes, which was dependent on the electron withdrawing ability of the substituent, was in the range of 499.5~526.0nm. As terminal substituent became polar, the dyeing rate of disperse dye increased, and the exhaustion rate of dyes having cyano or hydroxy group became lower, that of the dye having acetoxy group higher. The wash fastness of polyester fabric dyed with disperse dyes possessing the polar group improved probably due to the increased dye-fiber interaction.

  • We carried out this subject to observe photoisomerization using 8A5H and phospholipid(DLPC) containing azobenzene group which has reversible to cis-trans by light irradiation. We investigated the photoisomerization and property of the monolayer film on quartz substrate prepared by the mixture of 8A5H and phospholipid deposited using Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) method. It was found that the absorption spectrum of the 8A5H and phospholipid LB monolayer was induced to photoisomerization by alternate light irradiation. And the absorbance of both the solution of mixtures of 8A5H-phospholipid and LB film was reversibly changed by the acid-base exposure and alternate temperatures.

  • We have investgated on the monolayer LB film of BASH-DMPC mixture on an ITO for the photoisomerization by light irradiation. We measured electrochemical properties by using cyclic voltammetry with a three-electrode system, An Ag/AgCl reference electrode, a platinum wire counter electrode and LB film-coated ITO working electrode in $NaClO_4$ solution at a variable concentration and monolayer LB films. A measuring range was reduced from initial potential to -1350mV, continuously oxidized to 1650 mV and measured to the initial point. The scan rate were 50, 100, 150 and 200 mV/s. As a results, LB films of 8A5H-DMPC appeared reversible process caused by the reduction-oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram.

Thermotropic Liquid Crystalline Behaviors of 4-{4'-(nitrophenylazo)phenoxy}alkanoic Acids and 4-{4'-(nitrophenylazo)phenoxy}alkanoyl Chlorides (4-{4'-(니트로페닐아조)펜옥시}알칸 산들 그리고 4-{4'-(니트로페닐아조)펜옥시}알카노일 클로라이드들의 열방성 액정 거동)

  • Two kinds of nitroazobenzene derivatives: 4-{4'-(nitrophenylazo)phenoxy}alkanoic acids (NAAn, n = 2~8, 10, number of methylene units in the alkyl chain) and 4-{4'-(nitrophenylazo)phenoxy}alkanoyl chlorides (NACn, n = 2~8, 10) were synthesized, and their thermotropic liquid crystalline behaviors were investigated. NAA6 formed an enantiotropic nematic phase, while the remainders, except NAA2, showed monotropic nematic phases. Isotropic-nematic transition temperature ($T_{iN}$) and change of entropy (${\Delta}S$) at $T_{iN}$ for both of NAAn and NACn varied by the change of n, and pronounced odd-even effects of n were also observed. However, the $T_{iN}$ and ${\Delta}S$ values of NAAn were much higher than those of NACn. This fact may be attributed to the hydrogen bonding between carboxyl groups. Thermal properties and degree of order in the mesophase and the magnitude of the odd-even effects of both NAAn and NACn were significantly different from those reported for 4-(alkoxy)-4'-nitroazobenzenes. It was discussed in terms of the differences in the molecular anisotropy and the temperature-dependent flexibility of the substituted groups.
