  • This study excludes how to define the concepts and categories of the Ah-ak(雅樂) and Sok-ak(俗樂). In the process from the early Joseon Dynasty to the late Joseon Dynasty, the aesthetic appreciation system of the Ah-Sok(雅俗) in traditional music, which is consistently projected on court music and folk music centered on Pungryubang, was revealed through specific historical records. Through this study, we were able to examine as follow : In the early Joseon Dynasty, the aesthetic of music related to the the Ah-Sok(雅俗) was mainly projected on the court's ritual music and Yeonhyangak-music for korean court banquet-, and in particular, the aesthetic thoughts of Geomungo[玄琴] was at the center. As we descend to the late Joseon Dynasty, the aesthetic of music related to the Ah-Sok(雅俗) has been expanded to the private sector, reflecting the aesthetic of Pungryubang music, and it can be seen that the aesthetic thought of Geomungo[玄琴] was at the center.

  • The present study was conducted to compare of pollen morphological characteristics for five Haploxylon species in Korea using light microscopy(LM). The results are as follows; 1. Highly significant (P<0.01) interspecific difference was observed in five Haploxylon species for their pollen morphological parameters. 2. The discreminant analysis based on the pollen morphological parameters demonstrated that the classification ratio of Haploxylon was 68.8 % ranging from 72.8 % of Pinus pumila to 62.2 % P. koraiensis. 3. The relationship among the species based on their pollen morphological parameters showed that P. koraiensis and P. pumila in Haploxylon were most closely related while P. pumila and P. bungeana were least related.

  • The taxa of Dryopteris subg. Erythrovariae are variable in morphology, resulting in taxonomic confusion in delimiting taxon boundaries. We examined the morphological characteristics of the Korean members of subg. Erythrovariae to clarify their taxonomic identities and relationships. The shapes of the blades, pinnae, and pinnule apices, the shapes and colors of the scales, and the positions of sori were useful for delimiting the Korean taxa of the subgenus. Based on the results of this study and evidence from previous studies, 13 taxa comprising 12 species and one variety of Dryopteris subg. Erythrovariae were recognized in Korea. Descriptions of all Korean taxa of the subg. Erythrovariae and a key to the species are provided. The descriptions presented here are based on field observations and the examination of some 1,000 specimens from the major herbaria of the world.

  • Morphological variation of Quercus L. subgen. Quercus in Korea was examined by numerical methods including principal components analysis of major morphological characters. Principal components analysis revealed the presence of five major species groups of the subgen. Quercus in Korea; these include 1) a group consisiting of Q. acutissima and Q. variabilis individuals, 2) Q. dentata, 3) Q. aliena, 4) Q. mongolica, and 5) Q. serrata. The putative interspecific hybrid individuals occupied intermediate position between the putative parent species in the PCA plot. The analysis also strongly suggested that size and shape of leaf blade and teeth or lobes, twig diameter, size and shape of nuts, and length and width of scales are very useful in distinguishing the species and the putative hybrids of the subgen. Quercus.

  • The purpose of this study was to ascertain and analyze environmental factors of subgenus Lycoctonum in Korea for conservation and management of rare high land plant species by GIS. We derived the habitat model of Lycoctonum from GPS coordination, habitat factors and digital topology maps. Suitable altitude fur the subgenus Lycoctonum is from 470m to 1320m, and northern slopes(between 15.5 and 36 degrees) are ideal for the Lycoctonum populations. In addition to altitude, slope and aspect, deciduous forest and approximation to water source were found as important factor. Using GIS and the Lycoctonum habitat model, we overlaid elevation, aspect, slope and land cover layers and analyzed buffer from the water source on two topology maps, Yang-Soo and Mock-Dong. After making prediction map for Lycoctonum habitat, we verified the existence of Lycoctonum populations on the predicted sites through field survey. Through this research, we're convinced that GIS software is powerful tool for plants conservation, such as finding unknown habitat or selecting alternative habitat.

  • This study was conducted to ascertain interspecific relationships by analyzing allozyme and soluble proteins of ten species in the Drosophila (Drosophila) to form a part of systematic studies of Korean drosophilids. The results of allozyme and TDE analysis showed that D. (D.) curvispina and D (D.) tsigana had the furthest genetic distance. On the other hand, the genetic distance between D (D.) angularis and D (D.) brachynephros was extremely close. And, ten species of the subgenus Drosophila can be divided into the first group of D. (D.) virilis, D. (D.) tsigana and D. (D.) lacertosa , and the second group consisted of four subgroups; the first subgroup clustered D. (D.) angularis and D (D.) brachynephros, the second subgroup clustered D. (D.) unispina and D. (D.) curvispina, the third subgroup of D (D.) takadai and D. (D.) kuntzei and the fourth subgroup of D. (D.) nigromaculata alone.

  • This study was initiated to investigate similarity and intraspecific variation in pollen morphology of korean subgenus. lepidobalanus Endl, of the genus Quercus L. The parameters measured were polar axis length (PL), equatorial width (EW), colpus length (CL) and copus width (CW), and PE (PL/EW) retios were calculated. The cluster analysis based on these variables of this result showed that the similarity between Q. acutissima Carruther and Q. variabilis Blume was the highest. Wide variation in the pollen grain size of Quercus dentata Thunb. ex Murray might imply, the existence of polyploid and/or aneuploid forms. Studies of ploidy levels within species are recommended for Lepidobalanus species.

  • The pollen morphology of 15 species, 2 varieties and 1 forma belonging to 6 sections of the subgenus Salix was investigated by means of light and scanning electron microscopy. From a pollen-morphological point of view, subgenus Salix is stenopalynous. Species from six sections have been distinguished on the basis of pollen morphology, and a key for their identification using pollen is presented. Based on pollen morphology, S. jessoensis(section Subalbae) is the most distinct of the species studied. Species of section Hurmboldtianae appear to be the most evolved in this subgenus with a closer relationship to section Amygdalinae than any other section of this subgenus.
