  • This study explores the effects on development of poor children by community-based orchestra educational activities and the orchestra educational activities factors for promoting the effects using longitudinal data are those collected for "The Evaluation of the Impact of Our Neighborhood Orchestra on Children's Learning" made by the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra. For these purposes, this study employed a latent growth model analysis of the factors such as depression, aggressive behavior, communality and interpersonal relationship of development of poor children and evaluation, satisfaction, outsiders'attention and participation of facilitative factors. The result shows that they displayed significantly positive development in depression, aggressive behavior, and interpersonal relationship. It appears that the evaluation on music achievement had a positive impact on the rate of change in communality, while the evaluation on attitude had an impact in the initial value of depression, aggressive behavior, and communality, also the sense of satisfaction had a positive impact on the initial value of communality and interpersonal relationship in conditional models. And parents' attention and participation had a negative impact on the initial value of aggressive behavior, while the attention and participation of the community showed a positive impact on the initial value of depression and aggressive behavior. Based on these results, this study attempted to broaden the understanding of the development of poor children taking part in orchestra-based educational activities and provide a practical basis for social workers' direct invention, and look for new ways by shedding light on the merits of the cultural/art education of poor children that engage in the community-based orchestra educational activities.

  • Explicit & implicit self-esteems were measured with 132(23 elementary & 109 middle school students) gifted & 282(29 elementary & 253 middle school students) ordinary students. Additional measures on psychosomatic symptoms & aggression were obtained with gifted students. Gifted boys reported higher ESE on most of subscales except the athletic self-esteem. However there was no difference in ISE between two groups. Self esteem types significantly predicted psychosomatic symptoms & aggression in the gifted. Especially the discrepancy between ESE & ISE was the most important predictor for both internalized & externalized behavior problems. The behavior problem ratings were higher in the self-esteem discrepant groups compared to the congruent groups. This study showed that the congruency between ESE & ISE is important from childhood and later studies need to find intervention strategies against the self-esteem discrepancy.

  • This study presents a meta-anlalytic review of 119 studies, published between 1990 and 2009, of gender differences and variables associated with overt and relational aggression during childhood and adolescence. Gender differences in overt aggression were found to be significantly higher in boys than girls, but significant gender differences in relational aggression were not found. Gender differences of only overt aggression are moderated by age and the reporter type. In general, both overt and relational aggression are more strongly related to maladjustment than adjustment. In addition to this, overt and relational aggression has both common and differential associations with relative levels of maladjustment and adjustment. The moderation of these effect sizes of both overt and relational aggression by age and the reporter type was found.

  • This study aims to explain the effect of mother's child rearing behavior on aggression of young children and to verify the mediating effect of self-control between two variables. For the purpose, 1,524 children who fit this study among children aged 5 through 7th year of the Korean Children's Panel were selected. The data were analyzed by using the hierarchical regression method and the Sobel test. The main findings are as follows. First, the mother's warmth of rearing behavior was shown to decrease aggression of children, while mother's control of rearing behavior had no influence their aggression. Second, It was shown that the self-control of young children had a negative effect on their aggression. Third, self-control was shown to have a partial mediating effect in the relationship between the mother's warmth of rearing behavior and aggression of children. Accordingly, various programs to reduce the aggression of young children were suggested and an alternative plan was proposed to be applied to child care sites.

Correlation analysis and double mediation effect analysis were performed through SPSS Win 25 and SPSS Process Macro, and the results are as follows. First, childhood trauma and rejection sensitivity showed positive correlations with displaced aggression, and emotional recognition clarity showed negative correlations. Second, in the relationship between childhood trauma and displaced aggression, rejection sensitivity was found to indirectly mediate, but emotional recognition clarity did not. Third, in the relationship between childhood trauma and displaced aggression, rejection sensitivity and emotional recognition clarity were found to be double-mediated. • The purpose of this study was to examine the path model of child's sex, temperament, maternal parenting behavior, and child's emotion regulation on child social behaviors. The subjects were 286 elementary school children. Data were gathered through questionnaires reported by mothers and teachers. Path analysis revealed that (1) mother's overprotective or coercive parenting behaviors effected neither child's emotion regulation nor social behaviors (2) child's sex and activity level effected child's aggression both directly and indirectly through child's emotion regulation (3) child's 'activity level' and 'avoidance' temperament effected child's social withdrawal both directly and indirectly through child' emotion regulation. Findings underscore the role of emotion regulation as a mediator in predicting child aggression and social withdrawal.

Second, there were significant differences when investigated the relations of game addiction and aggression, students who were in severe addicted group showed more aggressive attitudes. Aggression in general, seemed less related to the gender, but related to the level of addiction, showing higher level of physical, linguistic, negative, indirect aggression in the more addicted group. • This study first investigated the relationship among elementary school students' perceived academic stress, self-esteem, and aggression. This study further tested the moderating effect of self-esteem on the relationship between academic stress and aggression. In particular, the moderating effect was tested three times for the three dimensions of aggression (i.e., behavioral aggression, hostility, & anger). A total of 758 (woman 52.1%) 5th to 6th grade elementary school students participated in this study by responding to a questionnaire including measures of academic stress, self-esteem and aggression. The main results of the study were as follows. First, academic stress perceived by the elementary school students showed significant, positive correlations with all of the three dimensions of aggression. Second, the students ' self-esteem was negatively associated with the three aggression dimensions. Third, self-esteem was found to be a significant moderator between academic stress and two dimensions of aggression (hostility & anger), respectively, yet forth, the moderating effect of self-esteem was not significant between academic stress and the behavioral aggression dimension. This study suggests that academic stress can be a risk factor to increase elementary school students' aggression, and that their level of self-esteem can be a buffer to lower the risk. This study provides implications for educators to develop a program that can reduce elementary school students' aggression under academic stress by boosting the students' self-esteem.
