18-36개월 영아용 기질 척도의 타당화 연구 (A Validation Study for the Early Childhood Behavior Questionnaire)

  • The purpose of the current study was to validate the ECBQ (Early Childhood Behavior Questionnaire) scale. Data were collected from the 39 teachers of 338 18- to 36-month-old toddlers (181 boys and 157 girls) in Korea. The ECBQ scale was composed of 201 items (7-point Likert scale) with three dimensions. Reliability of this study was confirmed by Cronbach ${\alpha}$'s for ECBQ subscales ranging from .76 to .81. The results of the Exploratory Factor Analysis identified three dimensions of ECBQ : activity-non activity, extraversion-attention, negative affectivity-transformation. Results of the Confirmatory Factor Analysis supported the hierarchic model. There was a significant relationship between temperament and adjustment of infants. It was concluded that the ECBQ scale in general is acceptable for use in Korea.

  • The purpose of this research was to study the effects of children's temperament, social competence, emotional intelligence, morality and parent's child rearing attitudes on young children's internalizing and externalizing problem behavior. Subjects were l34 five-year-old children attending day-care centers and kindergartens in Seoul, Korea. Analysis of the relationships among these variables was by correlation and stepwise multiple regressions. There were statistically significant correlations among the variables of temperament, social competence and parents' child rearing attitudes and young children's behavior problems. Variables influencing young children's internalizing behavior problems were children's temperament and parents' child-rearing attitudes; variables influencing children's externalizing behavior problems were children's temperament, their social competence, and parents' child-rearing attitudes.

취업모와 미취업모의 양육태도, 양육부담감 및 학령전기 자녀의 기질과 건강관련 변인 비교 (Childrearing Attitude and Burden of Employed and Unemployed Mothers and Temperament and Health Related Variables of Their Preschool Children)

  • Purpose: This comparative descriptive study was conducted to determine the effects of maternal employment on the maternal child-rearing attitude, child-rearing burden, and temperament and health related variables of their preschool children. Method: Samples were recruited in child care centers in Seoul, Daejeon, and Suwon. 209 mothers with children age of three to six participated. Result: Employed mothers showed more positive child-rearing attitude, but there was no significant difference in child-rearing burden, Also, maternal attitude and child-rearing burden were influenced by satisfaction on the employment state. Children's temperament subscales were not different in two groups. Breast feeding and compliance on vaccination were done better by unemployed mothers. However, home safety, experience of accident and hospitalization of children were not affected by maternal employment. Conclusion: Maternal employment has positive influence in some aspects. This study provides basic data for parent counseling and anticipatory guidance for employed mothers.

시설보호 아동의 기질 및 사회적 지지와 긍정적.부정적 정서의 관계 (Temperament and Social Support in Relation to Positive and Negative Emotion of Institutionalized Children)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between temperament, social support and positive, as well as negative emotions of institutionalized children. The participants were 198 children aged from 10 to 13 years old. They were recruited from 20 childcare facilities in Seoul. Data were analyzed using Cronbach alphas, factor analyses, frequencies, percentiles, t-tests and hierarchical regression analyses. The major findings were as follows: 1) on average, girls showed higher emotionality in temperament compared to boys. Girls reported greater support of school teacher than boys. Boys experienced significantly higher positive emotions than girls, while girls reported significantly higher negative emotions than boys. 2) Positive emotions were influenced by the support of the institutionalized family as well as school teachers. Negative emotions were influenced by the support of the institutionalized family.

  • This study examined relationships among maternal self-perception, parenting behavior, kindergartener's temperament, and social competence. The subjects were 112 kindergartners and their mothers. Instruments were the modified Self-Perception Profile for Adults, the Iowa Parent Behavior Inventory, the Parent and Teacher Temperament Questionnaire for children 3-7 years of age, and the Iowa Social Competency Scales. The data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, connonical correlation and regression. Results showed significant correlations among maternal self-perception, parenting behaviors, kindergartener's temperament and social competence. Findings from analyses by cannonical correlation and regression revealed that maternal self-perception, parenting behaviors, and children's temperament are important variables for predicting social competence in children.

유아의 충동성 기질 및 사회극놀이 참여도와 자기규제간의 관계 (Relationships Between Children's Impulsivity, Sociodramatic Play and Children's self-regulation)

  • This study examined the relations between children's Impulsivity temperament, socio-dramatic play, and self-regulation of 4-year-old children. Subjects were 117 4-year-old children(59 boys and 58 girls) selected from three kindergartens. Each mother completed a questionnaire on her child's temperament. Naturalistic observations of total socio-dramatic play, complex socio-dramatic play, solitary dramatic play and of self-regulation in two classroom contexts - clean-up periods and group circle time - were conducted for obtaining data. Significance was analyzed by Pearson's correlation and multiple regression analysis. Children's Impulsivity was negatively related to self-regulation and to total and complex socio-dramatic play, but impulsivity was positively related to solitary dramatic play. Total and complex socio-dramatic play was positively related to self-regulation while solitary dramatic play was negatively related to self-regulation. Total and complex socio-dramatic play, and solitary dramatic play displayed a mediating role between impulsivity and self-regulation during clean-up periods.

  • The purpose of this study was to describe infant and mother behaviors across situations. And, it was to examine the associations between infant's temperament and infant's patterns of attachment to their mother with mother-infant interaction. Results showed that there were significant main effects for the attentional focus of the situation and the level of regulatory challenge on observed mother-infant interaction behaviors. Also, mother and infant showed significant differences in their interaction behaviors depending on the patterns of infant temperzment and the patterns of infant-mother attachment.

부-모간 양육행동(Coparenting)의 관련 변인 : 부부관계의 질, 어머니의 인성 특성 및 아동의 초기 기질 (The Correlates of Coparenting : Marital Quality Mother’s Personality, and Childrens’Initial Temperament)

  • This study examined the relations between coparenting, marital quality, mothers’personality and children’s initial temperament. Subjects were 174 mothers of 4~6 year-old children, and they answered questionnaires regarding coparenting, marital quality, personality, and initial temperatment of their children. For mothers of both boys and girls, positive marital quality wass related positively to warmth, support, and integrity coparenting and negatively to conflict coparenting. Only for mothers of girls, higher warmth and integrity coparenting was shown when they were extroverted. while those who were neurotic showed higher conflict coparenting. For mothers of boys, support coparenting was low when their sons were emotional. Mothers of girls showed lower level of warmth and integrity coparenting when their daughters were avoidant. emotional and sensitive.

유아의 기질 및 어머니의 양육행동과 만족지연능력간의 관계 (Relations among Preschoolers' Temperament, Mothers' Parenting Behaviors, and Ability to Delay Gratification)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine relationships between preschoolers' temperament, mothers' parenting behaviors, and ability to delay gratification. A sample of 131 preschool children aged from 4 to 5 participated in a delay-of-gratification experiment, as reconstructed by Rodriguez and his colleagues (2005). Mothers answered questionnaires on their parenting behaviors and children's temperament. Data were analyzed by t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regressions. Children's activity as well as mothers' warmth and control predicted the ability to delay gratification; significant interaction effects were found between children's activity and maternal warmth on the ability to delay gratification. It would be plausible to intervene in children's activity level and improve the ability to delay gratification.

영아의 기질과 초기 어휘 습득의 관계 (Relationships Between Infants' Temperament and Early Vocabulary Acquisition)

  • This study examined the relationship between children's temperament and their early vocabulary acquisition. Mothers of 317 toddlers (18 months of age) completed the Toddler Temperament Scale(Bak, 1996) and a vocabulary checklist(Pae, 2002). Results showed that mood, adaptability, and activity were associated with vocabulary acquisition. Specifically, infants rated as having a positive mood and low activity level acquired more expressive words. On the other hands, infants rated as easily adaptive and low activity level acquired more receptive words. These results suggest that different components of temperament may influence the way in which toddlers acquire vocabulary.
