  • 1-Anthracenesulfonyl chloride used as a substrate has been prepared from anthra-quinone, and its melting point ($124^{circ}C$) was confirmed to be considerably different from the literature value ($90^{circ}C$). Rates of nucleophilic substitution reactions of this substrate with some p-substituted anilines in dry acetone were determined by electroconductometric method, and their mechanism has been discussed. As a result, it has been found that these reactions proceed in parallel catalyzed by anilines together with noncatalyzed process, and that their catalytic activities are electrophilic. Judging from $Br{\phi}nsted\;{\beta}$ (0.77), Hammett ${\rho}$(-3.2), and activation parameters which were determined from the temperature dependence of noncatalyzed second order rate constants, it appears most appropriate that their mechanism should be discussed in terms of an associative $S_N2$ involving sulfonylammonium intermediate.

  • An investigation was made of the effect of various transition metal catalysts, ligands, and a promoter on the synthesis of N,N'-diphenylurea(DPU) from nitrobenzene, aniline, and carbon monoxide. Homogeneous Pd and Ni catalysts were found to be highly efficient, giving almost quantitative isolated DPU yields at 100% nitrobenzene conversion. Bidentate ligand, 1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)proane(dppp) showed much improved activity and significantly different reactivity relative to the usual monodentate $PPh_3$ ligand in the presence of Ni and Pd catalysts. These results were inferred to the effect of the cis coordination of bidentate dppp ligand on the metal. The use of a promoter $Et_4NCl$ was indispensable in the case of $PPh_3$, yet inhibited the reaction if used with dppp. It was possible to reuse the Pd-dppp catalyst system, although the catalytic activity was reduced slowly.

  • Polyaniline (PANi)/Poly(ethylene of oxide) (PEO) in-situ blends were prepared by inducing phase separation through solvent evaporation after casting from solutions containing aniline monomer, oxidant (initiator), dopant and PEO in methanol/water mixed solvent. It was observed that the electrical conductivity first increases rapidly as PANi amount in the PANi/PEO blend increases and then slowly increases as the weight percentages of polyaniline become above 11 wt% in the blend. We also noted that the morphology of PANi/PEO blends changes when the holding time in a stirrer at constant temperature is varied and eventually affects the electrical conductivity. As the length of alkyl group in dopants increases, the electrical conductivity of doped blends increases. The PANi/PEO blend prepared with a high molecular weight of PEO yields higher electrical conductivity.

  • Emeraldine salt of polyaniline-dodecylbenzenesulfdnic acid (PANI-DBSA) in organic solvents such as toluene and xylene was obtained by a direct one-step emulsion polymerization technique. When the molar ratio of DBSA to aniline monomer was 1.5:1, its solubility and electric property showed a maximum value and then the solid contents of PANI-DBSA was 8 wt% in toluene. The cast film of PANI-DBSA with no binder was obtained on glass or plastic substrates under ambient conditions. PANI solution can be also easily blended with polyurethane and polystyrene polymers in toluene. Improved electrical performance up to 5 S/cm was achieved with good light-transmittance up to 70% at 500 m thickness. They also showed more homogeneous morphology than that prepared with PANI-DBSA kom aqueous dispersion polymerization. The partially dispersed PANI-DBSA showed particles sizes of 50-400 m in organic solvents and their XRD pattern were observed from the powder sample.

  • For the safe handling of aniline, this study was investigated the explosion limits of aniline in the reference data. And the lower flash points, upper flash points and AITs(auto-ignition temperatures) by ignition delay time were experimented. The lower flash point of aniline by using Setaflash and Penski-Martens closed-cup testers were experimented $66^{\circ}C$ and $73^{\circ}C$, respectively. The lower flash point aniline by using Tag and Cleveland open cup testers were experimented $72^{\circ}C$ and $78^{\circ}C$, respectively. Also, this study measured relationship between the AITs and the ignition delay times by using ASTM E659 tester for aniline. The experimental AIT of aniline was $590^{\circ}C$. The calculated LEL and UEL by using the measured low flash point and upper flash point were 1.16 Vol.% and 8.36 Vol.%, respectively.

  • The second-order rate constants for the nucleophilic substitution reactions of para-substituted benzyl nitrates with para-substituted anilines in acetonitrile were conductometrically determined. Hammett ${\rho}$x and ${\rho}$y values and Bronsted ${\beta}$ values were obtained from these kinetic data. The reactions of Benzyl nitrates with the series of anilines showed linear Hammett plots with negative slopes. For the change of substituents in the benzyl nitrates, nonlinear Hammett plots with a concave upwards curve were obtained. We applied the potential energy surface and the quantum mechanical models in order to examine the transition state variations caused by changes in substituents on the nucleophile and the substrate. The results showed that the reaction was proceeded via the $S_{N}2$-type reaction mechanism in which the extent of bond-formation was greatly changed depending on the property of the substituents in substrate.

  • A conductive PANI solution was successfully fabricated by doping with camphorsulfonic acid and the polymerization of aniline and the confirmation of doping were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy. In organic thin film transistors, PANI gate electrodes were spin-coated on a PES substrate and their conductivity variations were monitored by a 4-probe method with different annealing temperatures. The surface properties of PANI thin films were investigated by an AFM and an optical microscope, OTFTs with PANI gate electrode had characteristics of carrier mobility as large as 0.15 $cm^2$/Vs and on/off ratio of $2.4{\times}10^6$, Au gate OTFTs with the same configuration were fabricated to investigate the effect of polymer gate electrode for the comparison of device performances. We could obtain the comparable performances of PANI devices to those of Au gate devices, resulting in an excellent alternative as an electrode in flexible OTFTs instead of an expensive Au electrode.

  • The objective of this study is to develop hydrocarbon-based cleaning agents by blending paraffins, glycol ethers and siloxanes in oder to effectively clean contaminants such as flux, solder and grease. And the effect of cleaning ability by wetting index, aniline points and solubility parameter of the formulated hydrocarbon-based cleaning agents were studied in this work. The formulated hydrocarbon-based cleaning agents were prepared on the base of physical properties of their individual components. Wetting indexes and aniline points of their were measured through experiments and solubility parameters of their were calculated based on the Hansen's equation. In this study, evaluation of cleaning ability by cleaning agents were carried out using contaminants such as flux, solder, and grease. The experimental results showed that the cleaning ability of the formulated cleaning agents was excellent in cleaning contaminants such as flux, solder and grease and that the influencing parameters on their cleaning efficiency were found to be different according to contaminant types. MC($20.3MPa^{1/2}$), DF-1 ($24.2MPa^{1/2}$) and DF-2($21.5MPa^{1/2}$) with similar solubility parameter as flux ($21.3MPa^{1/2}$) showed 100% cleaning efficiency within 3 minutes in flux cleaning. And CFC-113, MC and 1,1,1-TCE with low aniline point less than $-20^{\circ}C$ showed excellent cleaning efficiency in solder cleaning. DG-1($16.2\;MPa^{1/2}$) and DG-2($15.5\;MPa^{1/2}$) with similar solubility parameter as grease($15.0{\sim}17.0\;MPa^{1/2}$) showed relatively low cleaning efficiency of grease, but CFC-113 and MC with high wetting index and low aniline point showed good cleaning efficiency in grease cleaning. As a result of this study, the hydrocarbon-based cleaning agents alternative to regulated cleaning agents such as CFC-113, 1,1,1-TCE and MC were able to be developed through properly blending paraffins, glycol ethers and siloxanes for cleaning flux, solder and grease. And it can be shown that various influencing parameters of cleaning efficiency such as wetting index, aniline point, solubility parameter and etc. of the non-aqueous cleaning agent should be reviewed for prediction of their cleaning ability and can be applied to formulation of cleaning agents.
