Real-time Rendering of Realistic Grasses Using Fractal and Shader-Instancing (프랙탈과 셰이더 인스턴싱 기법을 이용한 자연스러운 잔디의 실시간 렌더링)

  • The grass is one of important components that cover the wide surfaces in the application such as game or real time simulation. Actually, it not easy to render effectively numerous grasses that grow over the wide terrain. To solve the difficulty, we must find a solution to the two contradictions in terms : quality and calculation cost. As a solution to the above-mentioned task, in this paper, we propose an efficient method to represent the natural grasses by introducing fractal theory and instancing technique. Although the existing grass representation methods make use of a simple rule of applying a basic grass model repeatedly in rendering process, on the contrary we take advantage of the basic property of fractal's self-similarity and we devise a natural representation method suited to the given environment by introducing two important growth factors such as nature of terrain and quantity of light, and finally we apply a GPU-based shader instancing technique to rendering numerous grass models in real-time.

Performance Characteristics of a Turbo Blower Having the Various Shapes of a Volute Casing (볼류트 케이싱 형상에 따른 터보블로어 성능특성 고찰)

  • This In this paper, we describe the performance characteristics of a turbo blower as a function of the shape of the volute casing: expansion diameter and width of the volute casing. The turbo blower considered in the present study is mainly used in a refuse collection system. The flow characteristics inside the turbo blower were analyzed by a three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver and compared with experimental results. The distributions of pressure and efficiency obtained by numerical simulation were in good agreement with those determined experimentally. Throughout the numerical simulation of the turbo blower, the blower performance was enhanced by decreasing the local losses in the blade passage and the outlet flow. The efficiency and pressure for the design flow condition were enhanced by about 3% and 2%, respectively, compared to the efficiency and pressure of the reference blower.   • The purpose of this paper is to study comparative analysis of cable dome structures by reinforcement effect with bracing and fabric. Tensegrity systems are stable structures which are reticulated spatial structures composed of compressive straight members, struts, and cables. Tensegrity structures need to be introduced to the initial stress for the self-equilibrated system to have a stable state. In this paper, the effect of reinforcement resisting the in-plan twisting is investigated for the Geiger-type and Zetlin-type models reinforced by bracing and fabric. The effect of initial imperfection is also studied because the structural instabilitity phenomenon of shell-like structures is very sensitive according to the initial condition. We study a more exact analysis concerning the structural instability of tensegrity structures using nonlinear analysis program. Then, two types of tensegrity models will be analysed and compared.

Design and implementation of the focusable table component for mobile application using the WFC (모바일 GUI를 지원하는 WFC에서 포커싱 가능한 테이블 컴포넌트의 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we propose a focusable table component for mobile application to support table form representation of various contents and manipulation such as focusing on the contents using the WFC which is a software module to support components of the window based GUI package. It is not easy for us to express contents with table attributes on mobile devices. Java provides several table components, but these are not suitable on the mobile environment. So we design and develop the extended table component to provide properly table form representation and manipulation on the mobile devices. Also, we provide a performance comparison between th supposed table component and Java Swing's JTable.

A Preliminary Study on Effects of Abdominal Bracing Exercise on Respiratory Function of Normal Adults (복부 브레이싱 운동이 20대 성인의 호흡기능에 미치는 영향에 관한 예비연구)

  • Lumbar stabilization exercise is a popular exercise method in recent clinicians, as it strengthens muscles around the spine and abdominal muscles, but there is a lack of research on the effects of pulmonary function and respiratory pressure. So, this study examined whether abdominal bracing exercise, a typical lumbar stabilization exercise, was effective in pulmonary function and respiratory pressure. In this study, a total of 20's 40 subjects were recruited and randomly divided into an abdominal bracing exercise group(n=20) and control group(n=20). Abdominal exercise group underwent 25 minutes of exercise. Pulmonary function and respiratory pressure values were measured to analyze respiratory function. As a results of the experimental group, there were significant improvements in FVC, FEV1, PEF and MEP(p<.05) and there was a significant difference in the comparison between groups, except the MIP. These results suggest that abdominal bracing exercise can be presented as effective exercises to improve respiratory function.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to find out the immediate effect on dynamic balance through Abdominal hollowing exercise and Abdominal bracing exercise. Method: 90 healthy male and female students in their 20s were surveyed and measured using Y-balance test and Functional reach test. Result: In the dynamic balance Test between groups, there was a statistically significant difference between the group that performed Abdominal hollowing exercise and the control group. Conclusion: Although both representative spinal stabilization exercises Abdominal hollowing exercise and Abdominal bracing exercise are meaningful in increasing dynamic equilibrium, it is difficult to suggest that any method is more effective in terms of immediate effects.

  • In the present study, tests for U-type steel box girder are performed to observe the effects of W-type and X-type of top lateral bracings on the bending behavior of the U-type steel box girder system. Another objective of the present study is to investigate the adequacy of the currently available design formula. For the structural tests, the test specimen with two third scale of the system constructed in the field was used. In this test, several different spacings are used for the top lateral bracings. The stresses measured from the bending tests are compared with those by the formula proposed by Helwig. An adequate type and the required number of panel for diagonal bracing was obtained.

Effects of Casing Shape on the Performance of a Small-Size Turbo-Compressor (케이싱 형상 변화가 소형 터보압축기 성능에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of casing shape on the performance and interaction between the impeller and casing in a small-size turbo-compressor are investigated. Numerical analysis is conducted for the compressor with circular and single volute casings from inlet to discharge nozzle. In order to predict the flow pattern inside the entire impeller, vaneless diffuer and casing, calculations with multiple frames of reference method between the rotating and stationery parts of the domain are carried out. For compressible turbulent flow fields, the continuity and three-dimensional time-averaged Wavier-Stokes equations are employed. To evaluate the performance of two types of casings, the static pressure and loss coefficients are obtained with various flow rates. Also, static pressure distributions around casings are studied for different casing shapes, which are very important to predict the distribution of radial load. To prove the accuracy of numerical results, measurements of static pressure around casing and pressure difference between the inlet and outlet of the compressor are peformed for the circular casing. Comparisons of these results between the experimental and numerical analyses are conducted, and reasonable agreement is obtained.

  • We constructed a series of calibration models in the campus of Kangwon National University. A series of experiment for calibrating sonde response as well as casing effect in field measurement. Here we explained the process of construction of calibrating facility which consists of three model holes of different density and three model holes of different diameter. It was discussed the calibration equations obtained from its sonde response calibration test. A density correction chart for different separation of detector from hole wall was suggested, and verified the possibility of determining true density from measurements in cased hole.

  • Care should be taken when performing the P and S wave velocity loggings. Some of them are the effect of casing that is installed to prevent the borehole collapsing when the drilling is done on the loose ground such as soil and/or soft rock, and the discrepancy of the velocities of the same media according to the difference of the source wave frequency spectrum. To overcome these difficulties, the following suggestions are recommended; (1) try a careful drilling technique that can eliminate the necessity of the casing, and (2) apply the logging methods with the proper frequency spectrum that is appropriate to the object of the velocity logging.
