  • Hydro-mechanical forming process has numerous advantages compared to those of a conventional deep drawing process such as an excellent surface quality and low costs of dies. In fact, Hydro-mechanical forming is a desirable forming process for producing complex parts in automotive body components, and it is an excellent candidate for the forming process of aluminum panels. In this research, Hydro-mechanical forming process with a cross shape punch has been studied for Al-Si-Mg alloy sheets. Finite element analysis by LS-Dyna has predicted the deep drawing depth of the aluminum sheets, and the experiment has confirmed that result. Put Abstract text here.

  • The applications of the aluminum alloy sheets to the auto-body panels are dramatically increasing for weight reduction of the automobiles. However, low formability of the aluminum alloy sheet compared to the steel sheet can be obstacles in tool manufacturing processes. Therefore, many of yield criteria for the anisotropic materials such as the aluminum alloy sheet have been observed. In this study, the biaxial tensile test and FLD test for the aluminum alloy sheet are performed. The results are compared with Hill's 1948 and Hill's 1990 models by means of theoretical predictions. Finite element analysis was also performed using the proposed method for the real panel.

  • The mode of fatigue failure is depended on the characteristics of the fatigue crack initiated and propagated from the weld toe and the weld root in the load-carrying fillet welded joints. The characteristics of fatigue crack are deeply affected by the geometry of fillet and the stress range. The purpose of this study is to investigate critical weld size and stress range in order to occur toe failure under pulsating tension loading in the load-carrying fillet welded cruciform joints.

  • In this study, fatigue tests to obtain S-N curves and FE analyses to obtain structural stress concentration factors were conducted for the two types of cruciform fillet welded joints, that is, load-carrying and non load-carrying types. Then we changed the obtained S-N curve of load carrying joint to that based on hot spot stress. As a result, the S-N curve of load carrying joint based on hot-spot stress was almost exactly coincided with that of non load-carrying joint based on nominal stress. So we have conducted that the fatigue strength of a welded joint with different geometry from the non stress distribution along the expected crack path.

  • Under cyclic loading, the fatigue failures of welded joints occur at weld toes which induce stress concentration by weld shape. So we need to obtain the peak stress and the S-N curve to assess the fatigue strength of welded joints. However the measurement of peak stress is of high uncertainty and low reproducibility, so we use nominal stress instead in fatigue tests of welded joints. In this study, fatigue tests to obtain S-N curves and FE analyses to obtain stress concentration factors were conducted for the two types of cruciform fillet welded joints, that is, load-carrying and non load-carrying types. Then we changed the obtained S-N curves to that based on peak stress using the hot-spot stress concept. From the analyses of the S-N curves obtained, we have concluded that there is a need to develop a new method to evaluate the fatigue life.

  • The necessity of six axis force-torque sensors have been increased in the field of automatic assembly, polishing and deburing using robotic manipulator recently. This paper presents a simple and compact elastic structure design of the six axis force-torque sensor with a cross-shaped structure and the expected deflection value was induced by theoretical method to design a six axis force-torque sensor and then this theoretical method was verified by comparing with the results using the Finite Element Method(FEM).

An Experimental Study for Reduction of Energy losses at Surcharged Four-way Combining Square Manhole (과부하 4방향 사각형 합류맨홀에서의 에너지 손실 저감을 위한 실험 연구)

  • Energy loss at manholes under surcharged flow is considered as one of the major causes of inundation in urban area. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the flow characteristics to reduce the energy loss in the surcharged four-way combining manhole. In this study, hydraulic experimental apparatus was constructed considering the results of the present survey. Square manholes and pipe diameters were reduced to 1/5 by applying sewer facility standards. Numerical simulations were carried out with the Fluent 6.3 model to derive the invert condition which can reduce the energy loss in the surcharged four-way combining square manhole. The hydraulic experiments were carried out according to the various conditions of the lateral flow rate($Q_{lat}/Q_{out}$), discharge of outflow pipe (2.0, 3.0, 4.0, 4.8 l/sec), and invert shape (rectangle and square open conduit type). The crossed invert was not found to improve the drainage capacity of the surcharged four-way rectangular combining manhole. However, the improved rectangle open conduit type invert and square open conduit type invert were analyzed to improve the drainage capacity by reducing the head loss coefficients by about 8% and 28%, respectively. Therefore, in order to increase the drainage capacity of urban facilities, it is possible to install and use the improved invert proposed in this study.

Study on Vessel Traffic Risk Assessment according to Waterway Patterns in a Southwest Offshore Wind Farm (서남해 해상풍력발전단지 내 항로형태에 따른 선박통항 위험도 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Domestic southwest offshore wind farms have problems such as the reduction in fishing rights by prohibiting vessel traffic, which delays their development. As such, there is a need to develop offshore windfarms in Europe to permit the passage of vessels and fishing operations in specific offshore windfarm areas. In this study, we used the environmental stress (ES model) and the IALA Waterway Risk Assessment Program (IWRAP) to determine the ratio of risk to the route type (cross pattern, grid pattern) and traffic volume (present, 3 times, 5 times and 10 times) to derive the risk factors of specific vessels for offshore windfarms. As a result, ship operators' risk related to offshore windfarms did not rise in both route types and there was no significant difference in the annual probability of collision in the present traffic volume. In conditions that increased traffic volume by 3 times, 5 times and 10 times, the risk ratio increased as ship operator risk and collision probability increased at the crossing points. Furthermore, when the traffic volume of the ship increased, the risk could be more effectively distributed in the grid route compared to the cross route. The results of this study are expected to apply to the operation type, route operation method, safety measures, etc. in offshore wind farms.

A Study on Seismic Performance for CFT Square Column-to-Beam Connections Reinforced with Asymmetric Lower Diaphragms (이형 하부다이아프램으로 보강된 각형 CFT 기둥-보 접합부의 내진성능에 관한 연구)

  • Most beam-to-column connections are symmetrically reinforced because of the reverse action caused by earthquakes. However, in weak-earthquake regions like Korea, asymmetrically reinforced connections could be used. In particular, the connections between concrete-filled tube (CFT) column and H-shape beam could be applied using a simplified lower diaphragm. The tensile capacity or Combined Cross Diaphragm for upper reinforcing was tested using a simple tension test. Four types for lower reinforcing combined Cross, none, horizontal T-bar, and vertical plate were tested using the ANSI/AISC SSPEC 2002 loading program. Horizontal T-bar and stud bolts in vertical flat, bar transmit tensile stress from the beam's bottom flange to filled concrete. All test specimens satisfied 0.01 radian inelastic rotational requirement in ordinary moment frame of AISC seismic provision. According to the results of the parametric studies simplified lower diaphragms demonstrated outstanding strength, stiffness, and plastic deformation capacity which could lead to more sufficient seismic performance in the field.
