The Impact of Retirement on Psychological Well-Being of the Elderly (은퇴가 노인의 심리적 안녕에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the impact of retirement on psychological well-being of the elderly and identifies whether associative factors of psychological well-being differ between retired and non-retired persons. Psychological well-being is measured by the PGCMS developed by Lawton. The sample includes 1,625 older adults aged 60 and over, which derived from the cross-sectional data of the "Aging and the Quality of Life of the Elderly in Korea: A Longitudinal Study" living in Seoul and Chuncheon in 2003. Multivariate OLS regression results show that retirement is not associated with psychological well-being after controlling socio-demographic characteristics, economic status, health status, family and social relations, participation in social activities, and satisfaction with hobbies and learning needs. Also, associative factors of psychological well-being differ between retired and non-retired persons. For retired persons, greater social activities and higher satisfaction with hobbies are associated with the higher level of psychological well-being whereas higher satisfaction with learning needs has a positive relationship with the higher level of psychological well-being for non-retired persons. Discussion and implications of the findings are presented, and limitations of this study are acknowledged.

The Effect of the Psychological Characteristics of Office Workers and the Preparation for Start-up on Entrepreneurial Opportunity Recognition and Entrepreneurial Intention (직장인의 심리적 특성과 창업준비가 창업기회인식과 창업의도에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, effects of the psychological characteristics of office workers and start-up preparation on entrepreneurship intention by mediating entrepreneurial opportunity recognition were analyzed. As sub-variables of psychological characteristics, desire for economic achievement, self-fulfillment, and risk-taking tendencies were classified. The collected 357 questionnaires, SPSS v24.0 and Process macro 3.5 were used for empirical analysis. As a result, first, it was showed that self-fulfillment and start-up preparation had a positive (+) effect on entrepreneurial intention, and the effect of desire for economic achievement and risk-taking tendencies on entrepreneurial intention was not significant. Second, it was confirmed that psychological characteristics and start-up preparation had a significant positive (+) effect on the entrepreneurial opportunity recognition. Third, it was found that the effect of the entrepreneurial opportunity recognition on the entrepreneurial intention was significant in the positive (+) direction. Fourth, entrepreneurial opportunity recognition was tested as mediating the psychological characteristics of workers, start-up preparation and entrepreneurial intention. As a follow-up study, it is recommended that studies to analyze moderated mediating effects by the conditional process model including moderating variables and to discover the third mediator other than a mediator used in the research should be conducted.

  • As smartphone was distributed widely usage of SNS is growing. Because of ots characteristics, SNS can sustain only when user uses SNS, users' intention to persist use of SNS is very important. Therefore in this study, psychological needs and immersion, the quality of SNS were chosen as impact variables to verify whether they affect the persistance of Facebook usage. A survey was conducted to 165 of Facebook user, and the result showed that compentence and relatedness significantly affeted immersino, and compentence and system quality significantly affected Facebook persistence.

  • 본 연구는 트롤링의 유형 중 하나인 그리핑을 목격해 본 경험이 있는 플레이어를 중심으로 설문을 진행해, 사회 심리 현상과 함께 결과를 살펴보고 대처방안에 대한 개선안을 제시하고자 한 것이다. 그리핑은 트롤링의 유형 중 하나로 고의로 게임을 패배하게 만드는 행위이다. 그리핑의 원인으로 게임 내 동조현상이 발생하지 않는다는 점과 복수의 딜레마가 부재하고, 게임의 시스템이 매슬로우의 욕구단계 중 안전욕구를 충족하지 못한다는 점이 해당할 수 있다. 그리핑을 예방하기 위해서는 트롤링의 유형에 대해 개발사 측에서 명칭과 의미를 정립하고 구분 기준과 처벌 수위를 체계적으로 관리할 필요가 있다. 또한, 적발된 그리퍼에게 확실한 처벌을 내려 그리핑을 반복할 수 없도록 해야 함을 제안한다.

Development and Application in Measurement of Security Need Satisfaction From Users of Electronic Security System (기계경비시스템 이용자의 안전욕구충족 척도 개발과 적용)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the measurement of security needs satisfaction from users of electronic security system, to verify its validity and reliability, and by applying them, to examine the effects between the communities using this system. In 2008, the users of electronic security system in big cities in Seoul(Yong-San, Jong-Lo) and Gyung-Gi Do(Su-Won) for their convenience stores, jewelry shops, communication services, banks, government and public offices, etc. were arranged for a population and 262 of them were used for the final analysis by purposive sampling. This study yields following results. First, the validity of security need satisfaction from users of electronic security system is very high, which means the explanatory adequacy of environmental security need is the highest. Second, the reliability of security need satisfaction from users of electronic security system is very high, in which the reliability value(Cronbach's $\alpha$) of internal consistency is over .765. Third, the security need of electronic security system has the most effects on the group of bank workers. That is, through a close cooperative system between the bank and the service of electronic security system, the more keeping satisfied the environmental, bodily, physical security needs are, the less the in security of this group has. Informational security need has the most effects on convenient store group. It means the service companies of electronic security system offer more services at dawn time and make or supply all sorts of visual information system, which reduces insecurity of the convenient store group.

A qualitative study on the psychological difficulties of conglomerates executives after involuntary retirement (대기업 임원들이 비자발적 퇴직 이후 겪는 심리적 어려움에 대한 질적 연구)

  • This study examined the involuntary retirement of executives in conglomerates based on Williams' need-threat temporal model of ostracism(2009), which explains the psychology of individuals facing social exclusion in the stages of reflexive, reflective and resignation. In-depth interviews were conducted on 15 retirees from conglomerates, and their contents were used for phenomenological method of analysis. As a result, in the reflexive stage of need-threat temporal model of ostracism, they experienced cognitive panic and emotional panic immediately following retirement. Due to an unexpected shocking experience of retirement notice, they experienced cognitive numbness first, and repressed the following negative feelings cognitively to hide them. In the reflective stage, retirees dream of 'a complete restoration to their best performance in the past', but as such expectation fails, they don't adjust to the reality more due to 'unrealistic thought', 'self-deception', and 'shift responsibility'. In resignation stage, a long-term failure to satisfy the desire led them to experience a sense of defeat and helplessness. Such results were reviewed and compared to Williams' need-threat temporal model of ostracism, and the implications of such result on the nation, companies and retirees in terms of the response to retirement.

Effect of Clinical Nurses's Basic Psychological Need, Self-Leadership and Job Stress on Nursing Performance (임상간호사의 기본심리욕구, 셀프리더십, 직무스트레스가 간호업무 성과에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was done to identify variables predicting of nursing performance with basic psychological need, self-leadership and job stress in clinical nurses. The participants were 160 clinical nurses, located in P city and D province in korea. Data were collected from Feb to March, 2016 by questionnaire survey. Data analysis was done by using SPSS WIN 18.0 program with independent t-test and analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple linear regression. This study shows positive correlations between nursing performance and basic psychological needs(r=.59, p<.001), autonomy(r=.31, p<.001), competency(r=.68, p<.001), relatedness(r=.48, p<.001), self-leadership(r=.58, p<.001), job stress(r=.19, p<.05). Basic psychological needs(${\beta}$=.43), self-leadership(${\beta}$=.33), job stress(${\beta}$=.21) have a 47.3%(Adj $R^2$ .473) explanatory power for the nursing performance in clinical nurses. This study confirmed that basic psychological needs, self-leadership and job stress were identified to improve nursing performance. Therefore we should develop programs in order to increase basic psychological needs and self-leadership.

  • Technology adoption has been an important issue for researchers and practitioners. In this paper, we identified the relationships between intention of technology adoption and technological affinity and other psychometric characteristics. We believe that technology affinity may be one of the general psychometric traits of individuals, and thus people have a different affinity levels which may influence the technology adoption intention. As a result it was found that need for cognition and self efficacy had positive influence on technology affinity, and the affinity also positively affected adoption intention. In addition, it was also found that technology affinity displayed a mediating role for the consumers adoption intention with need for cognition and self efficacy.

The Role of Relational Agency in a Need-reality Colliding Situation (욕구-현실 충돌 상황에서의 주체성의 역할)

  • The goal of this study was to explain the phenomenon of making efforts to overcome the need-reality collision as a cultural characteristic of Koreans. Specifically, we examined whether the behavior varies depending on the degree of relational agency in the situation where conflicts between one's needs and reality have occurred. To this end, a total of 217 participants participated in the online experiment, and the data of 156 participants were finally analyzed. After responding to the relational agency scale, the participants were exposed to a decision-making scenario in which conflicting factors existed. The scenario were about buying a house and making a wedding hall contract, and in each scenario, two important values were set to conflict with each other in the market. Participants read the scenario and entered the level they wanted for each value. After that, they encounter a situation in which he or she has not found the candidate site corresponding to the level he or she wants. Then, the participants responded to their willingness to make additional efforts themselves. As a result of the study, the degree of relational agency of the participants showed a positive relationship with the degree of additional effort. In addition, the degree of the desired level beyond the reality (expectancy discrepancy) showed a nonlinear (reverse U-shape) influence on the additional effort while controlling for individual difference. Furthermore, the interaction effect between relational agency and expectancy discrepancy was significant. Specifically, individuals with low agency did not have a significant relationship between the degree of expectancy discrepancy and the dependent variable, but individuals with high relational agency had a significant non-linear relationship between the degree of expectancy discrepancy and the dependent variable. Based on the results of the study, the role and function of Koreans' psychological characteristics (relational agency) in the scene of managing needs-reality collision were discussed.

The effect of Attributes of Exercise/Fitness Apps on App Usage: A Convergence Perspective Based on the Self-Determination Theory (운동/피트니스앱 속성이 앱 활용에 미치는 영향: 자기결정성 이론을 기반으로 한 융복합적 관점에서의 탐구)

  • The present study explored how 1) individuals' perception about attributes of exercise/fitness apps and 2) their motivation for exercise/fitness behaviors influence perceived usefulness and usage of the apps. A survey of 323 males and females in their 20's and 30's revealed that attributes of apps that satisfy their basic psychological needs are crucial in promoting perceived usefulness and usage of the apps. Participants were more likely to perceive exercise/fitness apps useful as they perceive them having more attributes related to autonomy and competence. The perception regarding relatedness attributes did not have the main effect on perceived usefulness but showed an interaction effect with relative autonomous motivation. This convergence study which examined health apps from the perspectives of psychology and public health provides practical implications to development and evaluation of health apps.
