  • Ultrasonic nonlinearity is very sensitive to changes in material properties. This paper describes the study of the correlation between heat treatment and ultrasonic nonlinearity by taking nonlinear factors into consideration. A modified formula was proposed for ultrasonic velocity. This formula indicated that the changes occurring in nonlinearity during heat treatments cause changes in the ultrasonic velocity. The experimental results show that the relative nonlinearity parameters calculated from the modified ultrasonic velocities and the ratio of amplitudes of the second harmonic and fundamental wave are in good agreement. The experimental results prove that heat treatment can result in changes in material nonlinearity. Moreover, the relative nonlinearity parameter calculated from the modified velocity formula is has a large value. Since this parameter has high sensitivity to changes in nonlinearity, it can be used to represent the relative nonlinearity change calculated in this study by using the modified formula for ultrasonic velocity.

  • Workers in nuclear medicine have performed various tasks such as production, distribution, preparation and injection of radioisotope. This process could cause high radiation exposure to wokers' hand. The purpose of this study was to investigate shielding effect for r-rays of 140 and 511 keV by using Monte-carlo simulation. As a result, it was effective, regardless of lead thickness for radiation shielding in 140 keV r-ray. However, it was effective in shielding material with thickness of more than only 1.1 mm in 511keV r-ray. And also it doesn't effective in less than 1.1 mm due to secondary scatter ray and exposure dose was rather increased. Consequently, energy of radionuclide and thickness of shielding materials should be considered to reduce radiation exposure.

  • In this paper it was described on the standards for Xe analysis by Wavelength Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer (WDS) of Electron Probe Micro Analyser. According to the experimental results, CsI and $BaCO_3$ are appropriate compounds as standard specimen for Cs, I and Ba which has not suitable pure metal standards. In the beam current of 10-30 nA range, the Cs x-ray intensity measured from CsBr and CsI was proportional to the beam current. It was found that the linear regression factor R, showing the linearity between the atomic number and x-ray intensity between In and Nd elements, was higher than 0.99 at 25 kV and PET crystal. The caJlculated x-ray intensity of Xe standard from this linear regression equation was 1.095 times higher than that ofTe at 25 kV.

  • This paper proposes a real-time algorithm for speed limit sign recognition for advanced safety vehicle system. The proposed algorithm uses Block-DCT in extracting features from a given ROI(Region Of Interest) instead of using entire pixel values as in previous works. The proposed algorithm chooses parts of the DCT coefficients according to the proposed discriminant factor, uses correlation coefficients and variances among ROIs from training samples to reduce amount of arithmetic operations without performance degradation in classification process. The algorithm recognizes the speed limit signs using the information obtained during training process by calculating LDA and Mahalanobis Distance. To increase the hit rate of recognition, it uses accumulated classification results computed for a sequence of frames. Experimental results show that the hit rate of recognition for sequential frames reaches up to 100 %. When compared with previous works, numbers of multiply and add operations are reduced by 69.3 % and 67.9 %, respectively. Start after striking space key 2 times.

  • In this paper, the formulation of a new simplified finite element is made to analyze the ultimate strength of damaged tubular members subjected to combined axial force and end moment. A damaged tubular member that has the bending deformation and the local dent is modeled by beam elements. Tangent elastic stiffness matrix of a beam element which contains the effect of the geometric nonlinearity is derived by using the updated Lagrangian approach. Here the contribution of the stiffness in the dented area is neglected since its resistance against the external loads is considered to be small. A fully plastic interaction curve of the element under combined loads taking account of the local dent effect is selected as a yielding criterion at each nodal point. Also tangent elasto-plastic stiffness matrix of the element is formulated by plastic node method. Comparison with the present solution and the existing experimental results is made showing that the present method gives quite an accurate solution.

  • The heart sends blood to the body with heart rate. When heart rate for men is from 60 to 80 per minute, he is generally normal. However, if heart rate is less than the normal heart rate, the symptom is called by bradycardia. Otherwise, the symptom is called by tachycardia. These symptoms make him even to death. Therefore, heartbeat rate has a very important role in a healthy life. In this study, we studied on auto-extracting methods of heart rates from ECG, and compared them with those measured by naked eyes. The first auto-extracting method employs the 2-order differential equations to extract heart rate. The second method uses the autocorrelation coefficients to detect heart rate. To verify its efficacy and validity in practical applications, these method has been applied to MIT/BIH database.

  • Query languages for XML use paths in a data graph to represent queries. Actually, paths in a data graph are used as a basic constructor of an XML query. User can write more expressive Queries by using Patterns (e.g. regular expressions) for paths. There are many identical paths in a data graph because of the feature of semi-structured data. Current researches for indexing XML utilize identical paths in a data graph, but such an index can grow larger than source data graph and cannot guarantee efficient access path. In this paper we propose a partitioning technique that can partition all the paths in a data graph. We develop an index graph that can find appropriate partitions for a path query efficiently. The size of our index graph can be adjusted regardless of the source data. So, we can significantly improve the cost for index graph traversals. In the performance study, we show our index much faster than other graph based indexes.

  • This descriptive survey aimed to investigate the health promotion behaviors of patients with reflux esophagitis and identify the factors influencing it using the health promotion model. The survey was conducted with 178 outpatients diagnosed with reflux esophagitis at C university hospital. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression using SPSS win ver 20. We found that alcohol consumption, BMI, perceived benefit, internal control level, and perceived health status of the patients are significant factors influencing health promotion behavior. The explanatory power was 49%. Therefore, this study is consistent with previous studies that elucidated that changing lifestyle behaviors and obesity control are necessary to alleviate reflux esophagitis. Based on these findings, we propose to develop and apply an educational program for evaluation.

  • Purpose : Vitamin $B_{12}$ and Folate are for anemia work-up which is well known for its sensitivity of light; the screening manual also specifies to be careful with light conditions. According to this, our laboratory minimized the exposure of light when inspecting the Vitamin $B_{12}$ and Folate, but the exposure cannot be wholly blocked due to other various factors such as when conducting specimen segregation. Thus, this inspection is to identify to what extent light can influence and whether the exclusion of light is mandatory during the Vitamin $B_{12}$/Folate test. Materials and Methods : We have conducted two experiments of identifying the extent of light's influence when conducting the Vitamin $B_{12}$/Folate test and also when specimens are under preservation. These experiments were progressed with various concentrations of patients' specimens which were requested to our hospital in March 2012. The first experiment is to verify the results on Vitamin $B_{12}$/Folate dependent on light exposure during the experiment. In the process, we have compared the results of light exposure/exclusion during the incubation process after the reagent division. The second experiment is about the impact of light exposure on the results on Vitamin $B_{12}$/Folate during the preservation. For 1, 2, 7 days the light on the specimen were wholly blocked and were preserved under $-15^{\circ}C$ temperature refrigeration. Then, we compared the results of light-excluded specimen and the exposed one. Results : When conducting first experiment, there were no noticeable changes in the Standard and specimen's cpm, but for Vitamin $B_{12}$, the average result of specimen exposed to light increased 7.8% compare to that of excluded one's. Furthermore, in the significant level 0.05, the significance probability or the p-value was 0.251 which means it has no impact. For Folate, the result being exposed to light decreased 5.4%, the significance probability was 0.033 which means it has little impact. For the second preservation, the result was dependent on the light exposure. The first day of preservation of Vitamin $B_{12}$, the clinical material exposed to light was 11.6%, second day clinical material exposed to light was 10.8%, seventh day clinical material exposed to light increased 3.8%, the significance probability of the $1^{st}$, $2^{nd}$, $7^{th}$ day is 0.372, 0.033, 0.144 respectively, and which indicates that the $1^{st}$ and $7^{th}$ day seems to have no impact. For Folate's case, the clinical material exposed to light has increased 1.4% but hardly had impact, $2^{nd}$ day clinical material being exposed to light was 6.1%, $7^{Th}$ day clinical material being exposed to light decreased 5.2%. The significance probability of Folate on the $1^{st}$, $2^{nd}$, $7^{th}$ day is 0.378, 0.037, 0.217 respectively, and the $1^{st}$ day and the $7^{th}$ day seems to have no impact. Conclusion : After scrutinizing the impact of light exposure/exclusion, Vitamin $B_{12}$ has no impact, while Folate seems to have no noticeable influence but light exclusion is recommended due to its significance probability of 0.033 when conducting experiment. During the preservation, the $2^{nd}$ day result depend on the light exclusion seems to have impact or influence. However, to consider the complication of the experimental process, the experiment including technical errors is predictable. Hence, it is likely to have no impact of light. Nevertheless, it is recommendable to exclude the light during the long preservation as per the significance probability (p-value) of $1^{st}$ and $7^{th}$ day has been diminished.

  • This study aimed to explore the saliences of formal school science and their influences on the attitude toward science communication through mass media. Saliences of school science are salient memories of school science which a perciever attends to selectively among various aspects of formal school science. Among saliences. external saliences refer to the sensory aspects of formal school science. and internal saliences refer to the observers' cognition. Attitude toward science communication through mass media constitute six scales; exposure. cognition. focus. belief. self perception of understanding. application. The questionnaire were developed and sample was selected by multi-stage stratified clustering. The sample size was 1,825. The data was analysed by correlation and multiple stepwise regression. Positive saliences were lab work and science teacher and negative saliences were lecture and exam/grade. According to the correlation and multiple stepwise regression analysis. saliences of the formal school science could account only a small part of the attitude toward science communication through mass media. Internal salieces could account the attitude toward science communication than external salience. Further studies on new models including attitude towards science are needed.
