Condensed ethyl silicate(CES) solutions were prepared from $SiCl_4$ and ethanol which is different in water content(2.5, 5.0 and 7.0wt.% ). To investigate the sol-gel transition behaviors of CES and PHT(partially hydrolyzed TEOS) solutions, the measurement of volume change, density, $SiO_2$ content, intrinsic viscosity and number average molecular weight were conducted with elapsed time. The polymer shapes of CES were discussed from the relation between the intrinsic viscosity[$\eta$] and the number average molecular weight($\bar{Mn}$). CES-3 prepared from ethanol containing 7.0wt.% $H_2O$ had different sol-gel transition behaviors from CES-1 (2.5wt.% $H_2O$) and CES-2(5.Owt.% $H_2O$), but similar behaviors to those of PHT which is used for controlling the hydrolysis rata of TEOS when composite ceramic materials were manufactured from silicon alkoxides. On the basis of Mark-Hawink relation, $[{\eta}]=K\bar{Mn}^{{\alpha}}$, the polymer shape of CES solutions were determined linear siloxane polymers because all solutions had ${\alpha}$ values in the range from 0.53 to 0.84. Especially, CES-3 showed to be a favorable raw materials for composite ceramics due to its similar properties to those of PHT.

In the present study, pure RHO zeolite was hydrothermally synthesized by using 18-crown-6 ether as a structure directing agent(SDA), and the small gases adsorption was investigated. Synthesized RHO zeolite was a cube shape particle of which average edge length was around $1.2{\mu}m$ and composed of primary crystallites having a diameter of around 100 to 200 nm. RHO zeolite structure was stable under 3h calcination at $600^{\circ}C$. Water adsorption data announced that RHO zeolite has a specific surface area of 483.32 m2/g and its micropore diameter was about 4 A. Gas adsorption was studied in the pressure range of 50 to 500 kPa for $CO_2$, $N_2$, $O_2$ and $H_2$. It was evident that RHO zeolite showed a strong $CO_2$ adsorption behavior. Especially, RHO zeolite showed a transient $CO_2$ adsorption behavior. The 3h $CO_2$ up-take at 50 kPa and 500 kPa was 1.283 and 3.357 mmol/g, respectively. The $CO_2/H_2$ selectivity was around 16 at 500 kPa. Compared with gas adsorption data for some representative microporous adsorbents, it was certain that RHO zeolite is a beneficial adsorbent for $CO_2/H_2$ separation.
Membrane process has been focused as an alternative separation process because not only it exhibits a high selectivity compared with a traditional distillation process, but also it is known to be an energy saving separation process. Inorganic membrane, especially zeolite membrane, has been studied since it can be operated in severe conditions compared to the organic membranes. Recently, new zeolite materials are tested as an inorganic membrane material to overcome disadvantages of existing zeolite membranes. Kalsilite can be used as an inorganic membrane material for gas separation and selective water separation from water/organic mixtures because it is expected to be hydrophilic resulted from Si/Al ratio of 1 like zeolite 4A and has a narrow pore size of 0.36 nm. In this study, kalsilite was synthesized by a new economical hydrothermal process using Si : Al : K : $H_2O$ mole ratio of 1 : 1 : 8 : 60. The synthesized kalsilite powder was confirmed by XRD and has a mean diameter of $2.73{\mu}m$. The vapor adsorption test showed the synthesized kalsilite is hydrophilic.

[ $Ba_{1.5}Sr_{0.5}SiO_4:Eu$ ] phosphor particles with high photoluminescence intensity under long wavelength ultraviolet were prepared by spray pyrolysis. We investigated the effect of $NH_4F$ flux added into starting solution on the morphology and photoluminescence intensity of $Ba_{1.5}Sr_{0.5}SiO_4:Eu$ phosphor prepared by spray pyrolysis. $Ba_{1.5}Sr_{0.5}SiO_4:Eu$ phosphor particles prepared from starting solution containing $NH_4F$ flux had the maximum photoluminescence intensity at the post-treatment temperature of $1200^{\circ}C$ and the maximum photoluminescence intensity of $Ba_{1.5}Sr_{0.5}SiO_4:Eu$ phosphor particles prepared from the starting solution containing $NH_4F$ flux was $137\%$ of that of the phosphor particles prepared from the starting solution without flux material. $Ba_{1.5}Sr_{0.5}SiO_4:Eu$ phosphor particles prepared from starting solution containing $NH_4F$ flux had larger size and more aggregated morphology than those prepared from starting solution without flux material. The photoluminescence intensity of $Ba_{1.5}Sr_{0.5}SiO_4:Eu$ phosphor particles prepared from starting solution containing $NH_4F$ flux above $3wt.\%$ had high photoluminescence intensities. The addition amount of $NH_4F$ flux showing the maximum photoluminescence intensity was $12wt.\%$. The optimum amount of $NH_4F$ flux was $5wt.\%$ when we considered the morphological and photoluminescence characteristics of $Ba_{1.5}Sr_{0.5}SiO_4:Eu$ ohosphor particles prepared by spray pyrolysis.

The durability of concrete structures deteriorates due to the corrosion of rebars and concrete deterioration by harmful ions (CO32-, Cl-, SO42-) penetrating and diffusing from the outside into concrete. Therefore, the use of surface-protection finishing mortar is very important for preventing or delaying the deterioration of concrete. In this study, the possibility of the prevention of deterioration or delay of deterioration of concrete was investigated using natural latex modified with silica sol and calcium ions for cement mortar, which can be used to repair the mortar of deteriorated concrete or for finishing the mortar of concrete. As a result, fine calcium silicate hydrate was formed in the pores of the cement material due to the calcium ions and silica sol components contained in the modified latex component that reduce the pore distribution of the cement mortar, thereby reducing the penetration and diffusion of harmful ions (CO32-, Cl-, and SO42-). Furthermore, the latex component was found to be present in the pores of the cement to improve the alkali resistance and carbonation resistance.

This study examined the shear bond strength between the zirconia core and pressed lithium disilicate veneering ceramics. The Schmitz-Schulmeyer test method was used to investigate the core-veneer shear bond strength of industrially manufactured zirconia core ceramic (Zirtooth, HASS, Gangneung, Korea) and pressed veneer ceramic (IPS e.max Zirpress, Vita PM9, GC Initial IQ, HASS Rosetta SM) (N=40). Data were statistically analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (a=0.05). The fractured surfaces of the specimens were examined to determine the failure pattern using a digital microscope. The mean ± SD shear bond strength in MPa were 16.69±3.11, 14.21±3.63, 11.17±2.92, and 27.90±5.71 for IPS e.max Zirpress, VITA PM9, GC Initial IQ, and HASS Rosetta SM, respectively. The average shear bond strength was largest for HASS Rosetta SM, followed by IPS e.max Zirpress, Vita PM9, and GC Initial IQ(p<0.05). The digital microscopy examination of the fracture surface showed adhesive and cohesive failure in pressed lithium disilicate veneering ceramics. The use of lithium disilicate veneer ceramic produced a significantly higher shear bond strength.
The discharge of fly ash that is produced by coal-fired electric power plants is rapidly increasing in Korea. The utilization of fly ash in the raw materials would contribute to the elimination of an environmental problem and to the development of new high-performance materials. So it is needed to study the binder obtained by chemically activation of pozzolanic materials by means of a substitute for the cement. Fly ash consists of a glass phase. As it is produced from high temperature, it is a chemically stable material. Fly ash mostly consists of $SiO_2\;and\;Al_2O_3$, and it assumes the form of an oxide in the inside of fly ash. Because this reaction has not broken out by itself, it is need to supply it with additional $OH^-$ through alkali activators. Alkali activators were used for supplying it with additional $OH^-$. This paper concentrated on the strength development according to the kind of chemical activators, the curing temperature, the heat curing time. Also, according to scanning electron microscopy and X-Ray diffraction, the main reaction product in the alkali activated fly ash mortar is Zeolite of $Na_6-(AlO_2)_6-(SiO_2)_{10}-12H_2O$ type.

Zeolite 4A-impregnated complex molecular sieve was prepared by hydrothermal reaction after aluminosilicate gel was penetrated into the pore of activated carbon granule. The crystals of zeolite 4A mainly were formed in the macropore of activated carbon, and their average diameter is $0.8{\mu}m$. The pore volume of activated carbon granule is $0.67m{\ell}/g$, and the pore volume of the sample including 21.6wt% of zeolite 4A crystal is $0.41m{\ell}/g$ decreasing the pore volume by 40% due to the crystallization of zeolite 4A crystals on the internal surface of activated carbon. The calcium ion exchange capacity of zeolite 4A-impregnated sample is 320mg $CaCO_3/g$ zeolite, and this value is almost the same as that of zeolite 4A powder. The crystal of zeolite 4A was not separated from the support of activated carbon granule in the course of ultrasonic dispersion. The adsorption isotherm of water on zeolite 4A-impregnated sample shows the intermediate shape between types, I and III. In addition, zeolite 4A-impregnated sample shows the hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties simultaneously.
$LiGd_9(SiO_4)_6O_2:Ce^{3+}$ phosphors were synthesized by solid-state reaction method. The structural characteristic was investigated by X-ray powder diffraction analysis. The emission and excitation spectra of the $Ce^{3+}$ ions doped $LiGd_9(SiO_4)_6O_2$ phosphors were obtained under the UV excitation. The emission spectra of $LiGd_9(SiO_4)_6O_2:Ce^{3+}$ shows the band at 410 nm corresponding to the $^2F_{5/2}$ and $^2F_{7/2}$ states of $Ce^{3+}$. The red shift of $Ce^{3+}$ emission is found as the $Ce^{3+}$ concentration increases, which could be explained by the change in crystal-field symmetry and strength with increasing $Ce^{3+}$ concentration. Fluorescence decay time of $Ce^{3+}$ was about 20 ns. When the concentration of $Ce^{3+}$ increases life time was slightly reduced.

In Korea, summer is hot and humid, and air-conditioners consume too much electricity due to large amount of latent heat. Simultaneous usage of dehumidifier may reduce the latent heat and save the electricity. In this study, dehumidification performance was measured in a constant temperature and humidity chamber for a small-sized dehumdification rotor made of inorganic fiber impregnated with metallic silicate. Variables were rotor speed, room temperature, regeneration temperature, room relative humidity and frontal velocity to the rotor. Results showed that there existed optimum rotor speed (1.0 rpm), and optimum regeneration temperature ($100^{\circ}C$). Above the optimum rotor speed, incomplete regeneration is responsible for reduced dehumidification. Above the optimum regeneration temperature, increased temperature difference between regeneration and dehumidification process is responsible for reduced dehumidification. The amount of dehumidification also increases with the increase of relative humidity, dehumidification temperature and flow velocity into the rotor.
