Knowledge about somatization (somatic manifestation of psychological distress symptoms) among immigrant populations is limited. While several studies have recognized somatization as a culturally distinctive expression of depression amongst older Korean immigrant population, somatization has not been incorporated into the comprehensive empirical model for depression of this population. In order to improve our general understanding of the phenomenon, the objective of this study is to empirically investigate principal contributing factors of somatization as well as inter-relationships among them. Data were collected from a cross-sectional community survey of 234 older Korean immigrants ($$age{\geq_-}55$$) in the New York metropolitan area. The statistical methodology employed a robust hierarchical regression procedure that iteratively downweights outliers. The results indicated that living arrangement, greater numbers of physical illnesses, and depression were significant explanatory factors of somatization. Furthermore, physical illness had a significant joint effect with perception of health on somatization, which confirms that positive perception of health exerts a moderating effect on the relationship between physical illness and somatization. The knowledge obtained from this study will contribute toward extending our knowledge on somatization and implementing more culturally sensitive mental health services for this population.

The purpose of this study is firstly to understand socio-demographic and health characteristics and economic characteristics of elderly single households aged over 60 and secondly to examine the relations between these factors and level of life satisfaction, especially differentiated relations by income level. We used the data drawn from third KREIS (Korean Retirement and Income Study) surveyed by National Pension Research Institute. The statistical methods used for the analyses were t-test, X², multiple regression analysis. For the whole sample, the results showed that the life satisfaction is positively related to higher income, better physical and emotional health status and having a religion. When we conducted the regression on two groups, the religion and income level were no longer significant factors. On the other hand, being a woman and enjoying good health contributed to life satisfaction for lower-income group while having a job and enjoying good health played a positive role in life satisfaction for higher-income group.

The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics and factors of each area by considering the gender health of the elderly as the integration of mental, physical, emotional, and social gender health based on the WHO gender health. The sexual health of the elderly is significantly different by gender, academic background, and region, and there is a clear difference in mental, physical, emotional sexual health and social sexual health. The mental, physical and emotional sexual health of the elderly in urban areas, those with high education and male is high, but the elderly in the rural areas, those with low education, and female are high in social sexual health. The factors affecting sexual health are as follows. Mental sexual health was positively influenced by satisfaction of sexual life and sexual knowledge. Physical sexual health was positively influenced by life and spouse satisfaction, and emotional sexual health was positively influenced by sexual relationship, spouse satisfaction, sexual life satisfaction and sexual knowledge. Social sexual health has a negative (-) effect on spouse satisfaction and sexual relationships. Integrated sexual health in old age can affect subjective health and quality of life, leading to successful aging. Sexual health education is needed to form a safe and healthy sexual life and interpersonal relationship. The 'sex' that appears as a cumulative trajectory of life should be accompanied by the accurate sexual health awareness and sex education that encompasses all generations. Therefore, in the composition of sex health education program, it is necessary to reflect the components that can enhance the sensitivity of adulthood to strengthen understanding and communication of spouse.

초 고령사회가 전망됨에 따라 적극적인 문화향유를 즐기는 다양한 신체적 활동성이 있는 새로운 실버세대를 스마트 시니어라고 지칭한다. 이전 연구에서는 스마트 시니어의 신체적 노화나 운동능력 저하를 고려하여 제공하는 맞춤형 UI/UX 콘텐츠 서비스를 제공하였다. 또한 스마트 시니어의 인지 반응 검사를 통하여 인지적 특성 저하 요소를 파악하고 A, B, C 그룹으로 나뉘어 그룹 특성에 맞게 글자 크기, 폰트 종류, 재생 속도 등 설정을 조정하여 맞춤형 UI/UX 콘텐츠를 제공하였다. 그러나 약 180여개의 인지 반응 검사를 진행함에 따라 스마트 시니어의 집중력 저하의 문제점이 있었다. 본 논문에서는 스마트 시니어의 인지 반응 검사지와 온라인 콘텐츠에서 스마트 시니어가 활동하여 변경된 설정 값을 이용하여 유의미한 인지반응 검사지를 추출하고 인지 반응 검사지 결과를 통해 상세한 맞춤형 UI/UX 콘텐츠를 제공하는 모델을 제안한다.

Attitudes about the ideal body are influenced by media, including fashion magazine advertisements. The purpose of our study was to analyze the ideal body image for males and females in contemporary society. We analyzed the contemporary ideal gender image through the examination of physical characteristics(body type, age), and fashion styles(hair, make up, supplements, clothing styles, body exposure) in fashion advertisements published in Gentlemen's Quarterly(GQ) and Vogue issued during 2002. The results indicate some blurring in masculinity and femininity resulting in gender neutralization and naturalness pursuing natural appearances. But, some previous beauty norms related to masculinity and femininity remained.

본 연구에서는 한국의 오랜 역사 속에 한국인에게 사랑 받아오고 있는 사물놀이 연주악기, 즉 꽹과리, 징, 장구, 북에 대해서 고유 특성 주파수를 찾아내고, 이들 고유 주파수와 인간의 목소리와 비교하여, 우리인간의 정신적, 신체적 감각특성에 영향을 미치는 그 정체성을 찾아내어 과학적으로 규명하고, 한국전통문화의 우수성을 밝히는데 그 목적이 있다.

This study was conducted to identify factors that affect subjective health in middle-aged with hypertension. Hypertension, a representative chronic disease, is a disease of increasing prevalence from middle age. To effectively manage hypertension from middle age, it is necessary to revise lifestyle based on subjective health awareness. The subjects of this study were 2,254 middle-age with hypertension who were 30-64 years of age among the 2014-17 national health and nutrition survey. Study variables consisted of general, physical, and psychological factors. For data analysis, compound statistics were made using SPSS 25.0 program and then complex statistics. The results of this study showed that the factors that significantly influenced the subjective health of the subjects were sex, age, economic level, number of households, home ownership, stress, quality of life, and their explanatory power was 20.4% (F = 12.58, p<.001). The results of this study can be used as a basis for the intervention to improve the subjective health of middle-aged with hypertension. Appropriate lifestyle modifications are needed to effectively manage hypertension based on good subjective health awareness.

The purpose of this study was to examine the knowledge of dental hygienists about the elderly and their attitude toward them as dental hygienists played vital roles in oral health care for elderly patients. It's ultimately meant to help improve their right understanding of the elderly to provide quality oral health care service to the elderly population in preparation for an aging society. The subjects in this study were 241 dental hygienists, on whom a self-administered survey was implemented. After the collected data were analyzed, the following findings were given: They got a mean of $12.40{\pm}2.99$ out of possible 22 points on knowledge of the elderly. Their general characteristics and characteristics related to the elderly made no statistically significant differences to their knowledge. As for attitude toward the elderly, they got a mean of $3.13{\pm}0.28$. Concerning links between their general characteristics and attitude toward the elderly, the better-educated dental hygienists took a more favorable attitude to the elderly.
