A New species of Elsholtzia (Lamiaceae): E. byeonsanensis M. Kim (향유속(꿀풀과)의 신종: 변산향유(Elsholtzia byeonsanensis M. Kim))

  • A new species, Elsholtzia byeonsanensis M. Kim is named and described from Byeonsan, Jeollabukdo Province, Korea. Molecular data confirmed that this new taxon was distinguished from other congeneric species. Elsholtzia byeonsanensis shares several characteristics (secund spikes, ovate leaves, long corolla length, etc.) with its related species E. splendens, but it is distinct from E. splendens which has a large plant, green stem color, chartaceous leaf textures, non-shiny leaf surfaces, pubescent petioles, pubescent leaf blade surfaces, pubescent bract surface, and open woodland habitats by having a small plant, purple stem color, coriaceous leaf textures, shiny leaf surfaces, glabrous petioles, glabrous leaf blade surfaces, glabrous bract surface, and marine habitats.

  • A new species, Viola ulleungdoensis M. Kim & J. Lee is named and described from Is. Ulleung, Gyeongsangbukdo Province, Korea. Molecular data confirmed that this new taxon was distinguished from other congeneric species. The Viola ulleungdoensis shares several characteristics (acaulescent leaves, beardless lateral petals, glabrous petioles and peduncles, etc.) with its related species V. selkirkii, but is distinct from V. selkirkii which has present adventitious buds, same leaves after flowering, small leaves, and high altitude habitats by having absent adventitious buds, larger leaves after flowering, large leaves, and low altitude habitats.

  • A new species, Potentilla baekdusanensis M. Kim, is described here. It is found in Baekdusan Mt., Korea. Potentilla baekdusanensis shares several characteristics (pinnately compound leaves, pubescent leaf blades and leaf petioles, different leaflets size, and absent stolons) with the related species P. fragarioides. However, this new species has small plants with short and curved hairs, 7 leaflets, small lower leaflets, a glabrous leaflet margin, and yellow petals with a reddish yellow base. In contrast, P. fragarioides are large plants with long and straight hairs, 9-15 leaflets, large lower leaflets, a ciliate leaf margin, and yellow petals without a reddish yellow base.

  • A new species, Corydalis bonghwaensis M. Kim & H. Jo, is described here. It is found on a mountain slope in Bongwha-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea. Corydalis bonghwaensis shares several characteristics (white flowers, glabrous pedicels, white tubers, and the polygonal stigma) with related species C. namdoensis B. U. Oh & J. G. Kim and C. albipetala B. U. Oh. However, this new species has flowers which change from pale-yellow to white, a mucronated inner-petal apex, linear leaflets, and fusiform capsules with two-rowed seeds. In contrast, C. namdoensis has retuse inner-petal apex, various leaflets, and fusiform capsules with 2-rowed seeds. C. albipetala has retuse inner-petal apex, elliptical leaflets, and linear capsule with 1-rowed seeds. Also C. humilis B. U. Oh & Y. S. Kim has pale-blue purple flowers, elliptical leaflets, inflorescence with 1-5 flowers, and hemispherical lower-outer petal.

  • A new species, Asarum yeonbyeonense M. Kim & S. So, is named and described from Mt. Baekdu in Korea. This new species is distinctly different from the related species A. mandshuricum (Maxim.) M. Kim & S. So according to the purple band at the base of the calyx lobes and the thick calyx lobes. In addition, Asarum sieboldii var. viridiluteolum Y. Lee is closely related to A. yeonbyeonense M. Kim & S. So due to its reflexed calyx lobes; however, this variety has green calyx lobes and pubescent petioles. Therefore its scientific name was changed to Asarum yeonbyeonense var. viridiluteolum (Y. Lee) M. Kim & S. So, and its Korean name should be changed into Nokyeonbyeon-Jokdoripul.

  • Seven new species of cope pods associated with marine invertebrates are described from the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. They are Panjakus bidentis from the scleractinian Pocillopora verrucosa (Ellis and Solander), Scyphuliger humesi, S. vicinus and S. placidus from the scleractinian Acropora squarrosa (Ehrenberg), Doridicola parapatulus from the nudibranch Glossodoris atromarginata (Cuvier), Ruhtra germinata from an unidentified alcyonacean coral, and Collocheres oribullatus from the crinoid Comanthina belli (Carpenter).

  • A taxonomic study on three families of Plecoptera in Korea was performed with adults, nymphs and eggs. As a result, the identified species were eight species , eight genera. Among them, three species, Perlodes stigmata n.sp., Kamimura coreana n. sp. and Neoperla coreensis n.sp ., are described as new in this paper.

  • A new species, Trichodorus jeonjuensis n. sp., resembles T. cedarus Yokoo, 1964, T. tricaulatus Shishida, 1979, and T. californicus Allen, 1957, from which it differs by male with three ventromedian cervical pores anterior to excretory pore. The spicules are straited all over and first supplement is located on half of spicules and the female has kidney shape vagina. T. tricaulatus Shishida, 1979 is newly reported from Korea. T. cedarus Yokoo, 1964 and paratrichodorus porosus (Alen, 1957) Siddigi, 1974 were found at several localities and some morphological data were compared by localities.

  • Nine species of copepod parasites are recorded from nine Korean cultured bivalves. One new species, Lichomolgus similis n. sp. is included, and other eight species are: Conchyliurus quintus, Pseudomyicola spinosus, Myicola ostreae, Ostrincola koe, O. japonica, Herrmannella longicaudata, Modiolicola bifidus, M gracilicaudus. The relationship between the copepod parasites and their host bivalves is discussed.
