Two methods for analyzing interaction between shaped charge jets and targets are taken in AVEAM-MT (ADD Vulnerability and Effectiveness Assessment Model for Materiel Target), which is a model for vulnerability analysis of materiel targets and being developed by ADD. One is an empirical method improved from the Fireman-Pugh technique for rapid penetration calculation into target components. The other is ADD-TSC(ADD Tandem Shaped Charge), which is a physics-based model extended to be applicable for shaped charge jets from the Walker-Anderson penetration model for higher fidelity analysis. In this paper, the two methods are briefly described, and the empirical technique is compared to the physics-based model in the prediction of residual penetration capacity. The latter is also compared to experimental results found in literature in predicting penetration capacity. These comparisons show that both methods can be used for fast calculations or higher fidelity calculations in vulnerability analysis models like AVEAM-MT which is required to perform a considerable amount of iterative simulation for damage analysis.
In plastic and reconstructive craniomaxillofacial surgery, careful preoperative planning is essential to get a successful outcome. Many craniomaxillofacial surgeons have used imaging modalities like conventional radiographs, computed tomography(CT) and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) for supporting the planning process. But, there are a lot of limitations in the comprehension of the surgical anatomy with these modalities. Medical models made with rapid prototyping (RP) technique represent a new approach for preoperative planning and simulation surgery. With rapid prototyping models, surgical procedures can be simulated and performed interactively so that surgeon can get a realistic impression of complex structures before surgical intervention. The great advantage of rapid prototyping technique is the precise reproduction of objects from a 3-dimensional reconstruction image as a physical model. Craniomaxillofacial surgeon can establish treatment strategy through preoperative simulation surgery and predict the postoperative result.

Purpose: Methylmethacrylate is the most commonly used alloplastic material in cranioplasty. However during the polymerization of methylmethacrylate, a significant exothermic reaction takes place. This reaction may result in thermal injury to the brain tissue and other soft tissues. Also it is difficult to make three-dimensional methylmethacrylate implant that is perfectly matched to the defect during the operation time. We report on the molding technique of methylmethacrylate implant using plaster mold and the rapid prototyping model in cranioplasty. Methods: A 44-year-old male was referred to the department for severe frontal hollowness. He was involved in an automobile accident resulting in large frontal bone defect with irregular margin. The preformed patient-specific methylmethacrylate implant was made using plaster mold and the rapid prototyping model before the operative day. The methylmethacrylate implant was placed in the frontal defect and rigidly fixed with miniplates and screws on the operative day. Results: The operation was performed in an hour. In the 6 months follow-up period, there were no complications. Patient was satisfied with the results of cranioplasty. Conclusion: Safe cranioplasty was performed with the preformed patient-specific methylmethacrylate implant using plaster mold and the rapid prototyping model. The result of this method was satisfactory, aesthetically and functionally.
The mortality of left ventricular free wall rupture after acute myocardial infarction is high; however, subactue myocardial rupture can be diagnosed by echocardiogram and the use of the intraaortic balloon pump reduces the incidence of re-rupture. Bleeding from subacute myocardial rupture can be managed by employing fibrin glue and several patches. We report here on a case of successfully managed case of subactue left ventricular free wall rupture after acute myocardial infarction with using the sutureless technique and fibrin glue.
In this paper, a novel approach which enables rapid die surface modification for sheet metal forming process is proposed. In this method an implicit surface which interpolates a given set of control points and displacement constraints is generated to compute the displacements at arbitrary points located on die surface. The proposed method does not depend on the underlying surface representation type and is affected neither by its complexity nor by its quality. In addition, the domain decomposition method is introduced in order to treat large surface model. The global domain of interest is divided into smaller domains where the problem can be solved locally. And then the local solutions are combined together to obtain a global solution. In order to verify the validity and effectiveness of the proposed method, various surface modifications are carried out fur three kinds of die surface model including polygonal surface composed of triangular and rectangular meshes, polynomial surface and NURBS surface.

Solid freeform fabrication technology, widely known as rapid prototyping an rapid tooling, can create physical part directly from digital model by accumulating layers of a given material. Providing a tremendous flexibility of a part geometry that they can fabricate, these technologies present a opportunity or the creation of new products that can not be made with existing technologies. For this to be possible, however, various design environments including different fabrication processes needs to be considered at the time of design, and finding an appropriate design solution for the new product by combining necessary design communications become increasingly complex as environmental condition become diverse. This paper proposes a geometric modeling paradigm for design and fabrication of a new product, honeycomb structural geometry.

Airflow in the nasal cavity of Korean adults is investigated experimentally by PIV measurement. Quantitative data for normal and abnormal nasal cavities with adenoid vegetation are obtained. The CBC PIV algorithm with window offset is used for PIV flow analysis. Average and RMS distributions are obtained for inspirational and expirational nasal airflows. Comparisons between western and Korean nasal airflows are appreciated. Due to the difference in geometry of the frontal part of nasal cavity, the flow near nares shows the difference. For the joint research on nasal deceases, PIV measurements of nasal airflow for nasal cavities with 50% and 70% adenoid vegetation are conducted for the first time. Comparisons in nasal airflows for both normal and abnormal cases are also appreciated.

The market of silver precious metal clay (PMC) is promising as its application for agile metal craft. The property of suitable hardness and shrinkage as well as environment-safe is strictly required as people make the final product with bare hands. We propose a silver PMC with new organic binder made of palm oil, glycolic acid and water. Then we prepared disk specimen of our proposed PMC and well-known commercial PMC. We investigated the hardness, weight change, linear shrinkage, density and micro structure evolution with sintering temperature of $700{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ ($50^{\circ}C$ gap) for 15minutes. We confirm our proposed PMC has suitable property for craft product comparable for commercial PMC, and the optimum sintering condition is $850^{\circ}C$-15minutes for metal craft application.
A locally damaged structure is a structure that cannot be reused due to having parts that have lost their structural function as a result of abnormal load across the interior or exterior of the structure. The causes of the abnormal load occurrences can be classified into natural disaster and artificial disaster. Locally damaged structures caused by this abnormal load have risk factors that may lead to the possibility of additional secondary collapses, so such structures require immediate and complete dismantling. The case presented in this study involves the application of explosive demolition to a steel truss structured bridge in the Philippines that was damaged due to construction failures and the hurricane. Although shaped charges were needed in explosive demolitions, difficulties in locally obtaining such material. So, we made a charge container to charging of emulsion explosive during the explosive demolition. The explosive demolition resulted in the vertical free fall of the mid-section of the bridge and the free fall rotating of the both end section of the bridge. The neighboring posts and bridge piers did not show signs of damages, while post-demolition fragmentation of removed parts was found to be satisfactory.

Prototypes of a design are always needed for the purpose of visualization and evaluation in the aspect of manufacturability functionality, and aesthetic appearance. Since the prototyping process requires a significant amount of cost and time, various rapid prototyping processes are recently being introduced in the process. However, it is usually necessary for a part built up by a rapid prototyping system to be refined by a post-processing process, in which the stair steps on the surfaces, the support structures (if they exist), and the unprocessed material are eliminated. This post-processing is usually done manually and is a time-consuming task. Especially, eliminating the trapped volumes, the volume of the unprocessed material entrapped by the solidified portion, is sometimes impossible in some processes. This study provides a designer with a tool to detect the existence and to calculate the quantity of the trapped volumes at the given build-up direction, so that the proper build-up direction is chosen or the part is built by pieces to avoid the problems caused by the trapped volumes in advance. Since the proposed algorithm can efficiently calculate the amount of the trapped volumes at any build-up direction, it has the potential of such application as optimizing the build-up direction to minimize the trapped volumes.
