A Diachronic Analysis of Characters in Movie Versions of Cinderella (영화화된 <신데렐라> 캐릭터들의 통시적 비교분석)

  • Since it is imperative to share the values with the spectators to convince the public of the era, the main characters of a story that underwent numerous adaptation through time would change gradually. This paper examined changes of the main characters in various versions of Cinderella. Until the mid-20th century, Cinderella would be portrayed as a meek, passive and obedient girl as in the original fairy tale version of Perrault. As moving to 70s, a heroine who acts with her own feelings and thoughts began to appear. In the 90s, spectators could meet a protagonist who fought fiercely to be the owner of her own fate, and in the recent Disney movie, Cinderella stood up for herself while accepting herself as she was. The prince character also underwent similar transition. In the early versions of Cinderella, the prince would be a vague figure with a title who was desired by all maids in the country. It is in the 70s that the prince began to be portrayed as a person who has his own problems. In the recent years, the spectators could see the process that the prince transformed from a naive aristocrat to a man with responsibilities. In modern society, women have more social opportunities compared to the past, and women's social statuses do not need to be secured by relationship with men any longer. Thus Cinderella story is not as popular nowadays, moreover somebody whose dream is becoming Cinderella would subject to social reproach. However, beside the gender, the story could be the only hope for people who feel a sense of helplessness that there is no chance in their lives. As result variations of Cinderella story will go on as long as people of social deprivation exist.

The Role and Necessity of a Stepmother in Fairy Tales Focused on "Kongji and Patji" and "Cinderella" (동화에서 계모의 역할과 필요성 - 『콩쥐팥쥐』와 『신데렐라』를 중심으로)

  • This study analyzes two fairy tales of similar plots in which stepmothers appear, "Kongji and Patji" and "Cinderella". The purpose was to investigate the role of a stepmother in a fairy tale and to examine the differences between the stepmothers in the two fairy tales mentioned above. Stepmothers in "Kongji and Patji" and "Cinderella" show similar tendencies but there were differences in the content of the tasks, as well as the evil actions of the stepmother after marriage. However, stepmothers who commit these cruel evil deeds were necessary for several reasons. First of all, children who cannot cope with psychological conflicts themselves can cope with contradictory emotions by projecting the guilt and psychological conflicts onto their stepmother and exposing themselves to their anger. Besides, they can understand the diversity of life and learn how to overcome pain, sorrow, and hardship. A fairy tale in which a stepmother plays a role is of educational significance in that it teaches lessons to children by showing that in the end, the wicked are punished and good people live a happy life. This helps the child to have a positive self-identity.

  • 아이들에게 꿈과 희망을 심어주는 아름다운 이야기들로 되어 있는 동화. 백설공주, 신데렐라, 헨델과 그레텔 등 동화 속 주인공들은 한결같이 어려움을 겪지만 결국은 행복한 결말을 맞이하게 된다. 하지만 동화의 원전을 읽어 보면, 과연 이것을 아이들에게 읽혀도 좋은지 의구심이 들 정도로 잔인한 내용도 많다. 이러한 동화가 오늘날 아름다운 내용으로 많은 사람에게 각인된 데에는 그림 형제와 월트 디즈니의 역할이 컸다. 그렇다면 과연 동화 속에 감춰진 전실은 무엇일까?

  • This paper is a study on the production of mixedeality contents by realizing AR coloring technology, virtual environment, and VR devices by realizing the interaction in virtual environment. In this study, we designed and produced the content from a fairy tale called 'Cinderella' to produce and demonstrate real mixed reality contents. 'Cinderella' shows 3D modeling in the virtual space using the Oculus Rift, and the modeled shoes can be lifted using Leap-Motion. It is a virtual augmented interaction content for exhibition and experience that can move a specific range from the foot on the treadmill. In this paper, we try to share the experience of creating new mixed reality game contents, which is a mixture of augmented reality and virtual reality technology, and continuation of universal use of this field.

  • In this paper, we propose a computer environment class for student's mental representations about non-Euclidean geometry. Through the software Cinderella, students construct knowledge about non-Euclidean geometry and recognize differentness between Euclidean and non-Euclidean geometry. Also they recognize an existence of non-Euclidean geometry newly and its mental representations with images represented in Cinderella. In geometry class, we make students can use many representations systematically and can figure a visual internal image by emphasizing a transform process. And then students can reason about non-Euclidean geometry.

A Study on Parent -and StepParent- Figure Percieved by Korean Children with the Knowledge about the related Fairytables (동화내용을 인지한 아동이 지각한 친부모상 및 계부모상의 차이 -콩쥐팥쥐, 장화홍련, 신데렐라 및 백설공주를 중심으로)

  • Generally fairytales are recognized as very effective educational materials. However, some of them includes negative prejudices on stepparents, especially stepmother. These contents are very harmful to development and adjustment of children in remarried families. Moreover, not so many studies have been done that even the results were insufficient to not only practical but also academical needs. Therefore this study purposed to investigate the parent -and stepparent- figures perceived by children with the knowledge about the related fairytales. Specific research problems are as follows; 1. How many children do know the contents of the 4 related fairytales such as Snow Whit, Sindellera, Kongjui Patjui and Changwha Honglyun? 2. What are the parent -figures perceived by the children with the knowledge about the 4 traditional fairytales? 3. What are the stepparent- figures of the subjects? 4. Is the children's sex the statistically significant variable in their parent -and stepparent- figures? 5. Is the children's age the statistically significant variable in their parent -and stepparent- figures? 6. Is the their parents' educational level the statistically significant variable in their parent -and stepparent- figures? 175 boys and girls of age -9 and- 11 were selected from 2 primary schools in Seoul. All of them were from normal families. As the steadyselling books, 18 fairytales were chosen by 7 booksellers of large scale bookstores in Seoul. And then by 10 teachers and 10 literay persons, 4 Korean and foreign traditional fairytales were seleced at last. The questionaire of 5 subareas was developed and used as the research tools, in which include 40 items. SPSS/pc program were used for data analysis for frequency, percentile, mean, and t-test. The followings are the findings with cronbach α=.80 and .94 parent -and stepparent- figures respectively. 1)The contents of the 4 tradional fairytales were read already or wellknown, even if the children who didn't. 2)The subjects showed very positive their own parent-figures such as sweet, lovely, reliable, and true or good person. 3)The subjects showed very negative stepparent-figures in contrast. 4)They showed significant sex difference(p<0.5) in their own parent-figures. And girls were more positive than boys who were a little more positive(on insignifficant level) than girls in stepmother-figures. 5)All the subjects had positive parent-figures and negative stepparent-figures. 6)Their parents education level was no significant variable in the prediction of their parent -and stepparent- figures.
