Neuroethics and Christian Education (신경윤리와 기독교교육)

  • Christian communities have long sought to find what type of moral judgment is appropriate and what the Christian behavior is, by taking the church's ethical norms and behavior patterns as objects of reflection. In the same context, Christian education also tried to base the psychological rationalism of J. Piaget and L. Kohlberg, but the reason-centered structural development theory was not the answer. In fact, the structural development theory, which emphasized autonomy while excluding emotions from the moral judgment process, over-emphasizing cognition or reason, eventually led to moral relativism, unlike what was intended. In addition, it was criticized for not being able to adequately elucidate the gap between human moral reasoning and behavior, and for attempting to interpret morality excessively within the context of social culture. Recently, these limitations of structural developmental theory have been reinterpreted by neuroethics, especially moral psychology theories, which claim that moral judgment ability is physically wired in the brain and relies heavily on networks between cortical and limbic system. The purpose of this paper is to review some of the newly emerged research themes of neuroethics, and then to discuss two main theories that explain morality in the perspective of neuroethics and the implications that Christian education should pay attention to.

The Effects of Neurodevelopmental Treatment Approach Based Undressing Skill Training on the Midline Orientation and Protective Reaction of Children With Cerebral Palsy (신경발달치료 접근법을 기초한 옷 벗기 기술 훈련이 뇌성마비 아동의 신체중심선과 보호반응에 미치는 효과)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate how undressing skill training based on Neuro-developmental treatment (NDT) approach effected on the midline orientation and protective reaction of children with cerebral palsy (CP). Methods : Two participants of this study were 3 years 5 months old boy and 4 years 5 months old girl, living in B city. They were medically diagnosed as cerebral palsy. Research design used in this study is AB design for a single subject research. There was no intervention on the baseline A phases, and functional activity based NDT was used undressing skill training during the B phases. Midline orientation was tested by Stepping subtest in MAP. Protective reaction was measured by Protective reaction subtest in QUEST. Results : In comparison with the baseline (A), midline orientation was improved above 2 standard deviations at intervention phase (B). and protective reaction was improved above averages in both hands. Conclusion : The study showed undressing skill training based on NDT approach that were effective for midline orientation of children with CP. Undressing skill training was one of the major functional activities. Thus, large studies are required to ensure the training effects.

Effects of Brain-Timing Training on Reading Abilities: A Retrospective Comparative Study (두뇌타이밍 훈련이 읽기 능력에 미치는 효과: 후향적 비교연구)

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of brain-timing training using an Interactive Metronome (IM) on the reading abilities of children with low brain-timing abilities. Methods : A single-group pretest and posttest (retrospective study) were conducted in 8 children whose timing abilities were lower than that for their age average and who were trained from 2019 to 2021. Brain-timing training was conducted 2 or 3 times per week, with 70 sessions in total and 40-50 minutes per session, depending on the developmental characteristics of the child. Changes in brain-timing ability before and after the training were measured using the IM Long-Form Assessment (LFA), and reading ability was measured using the Basic Academic Skills Assessment:Reading (BASA:R). Results : On the basis of the results of the brain-timing ability evaluation using the LFA, the reaction times of all the children during motor tasks were decreased, resulting in statistically significant improvements in their brain-timing abilities (p < .05). Moreover, the raw scores in the BASA:R reading and fill-in-the-blank tests were significantly improved (p < .05). Conclusion : This study is meaningful in that it presents a clinical basis for brain-timing training to improve the reading abilities of children.

IMMUNOHISTOCHEMICAL STUDY ON THE POSTNATAL DEVELOPMENT OF SOMATOSTATIN IMMUNOREACTIVE NEURONS IN THE RAT CEREBRAL CORTEX (흰쥐 대뇌피질에서의 Somatostatin 신경세포의 생후발달에 관한 면역조직화학적 연구)

  • With immunohistochemical method, We have examined the distribution, the size, the number, and the morphology of somatostatin-immunoreactive neurons in the cerebral cortex of rats at the 1st. 2nd, 3rd, 4th postnatal week and the 2nd and 3rd months of age. The results are summarized as follows : 1) Strongly immunoreactive somatostatin neurons were found in the layer V and VI at the first postnatal week and then they were observed to be densely populated in the layer II and III from the 3rd postnatal week on as in the adult rat. 2) The size of the neuron was largest at the 2nd postnatal week while the number of the neurons was greatest in the 1st or 2nd postnatal week, depending on the different areas of the cortex. Overall the postnatal development of somatostatin neurons are well corresponds with the general principle of neuronal development of CNS.

  • Magnetic nerve stimulation treatment is much backward real condition than other field. Specially, successful medical treatment introduction of magnetic field (MF) can was refered long ago in Avicenna's work, and is thought as age of medicine magnetology development recently. These development is achieved through biologist and biophysicist and clinician's joint effort, but, new mountings and relationship air tassel are developed steadily.   • Objectives:The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics and differences of brain function in pervasive developmental disorder and developmental language disorder. Method:The subjects were composed of 14 cases of pervasive developmental disorder and 13 cases developmental language disorder. They were investigated by technitium-99m-EDC SPECT. All SPECT were visually assessed by two nuclear medicine specialists, and then quantified by region of interest including temporal, parietal cortex, thalamus, basal ganglia and cerebellum. Result:In both groups, cerebral blood flow was decreased in the temporal, parietal cortex, basal ganglia, thalamus, cerebellum by visual assessment. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups by quantitative and qualitative assessment. Conclusion:These results suggest that pervasive developmental disorder and developmental language disorder are caused by defects in the interneural connection and that both disorders are spectrum disorders.

  • 아기는 약 200억 개의 뇌세포를 가지고 바깥 세상에 태어난다. 게다가 더 놀라운 사실은 이 200억 개의 뇌세포가 또다시 각각 2만 개 이상의 다른 가지들로 연결되면서 신경망을 형성해 나간다는 것이다. 이 신경 전달망이 바로 아이 인생의 절대적인 영향을 끼치는 잠재력의 근원이다. 다시 말해 똑똑한 아이일수록 이 신경망들이 숫자도 훨씬 많고 복잡하게 얽혀있다는 것이다. 그러나 이렇게 형성된 뇌세포들은 적절한 연락이 오지 않으면 스스로 쓸모없다고 판단하여 임신 8개월 전에 40~75% 가량이 죽어버린다.
