  • Manufacturing plants face the challenge of reducing energy use in response to climate change. Reducing energy consumption can be seen as one of the most important issues, such as reducing production costs and improving efficiency. Among manufacturing industries, the increase in energy consumption in the food industry is gradually increasing along with the improvement of the standard of living and the increase in population. In order to save energy in food processing plants, it is important to identify and analyze energy consumption characteristics in energy-consuming processes. Prior to this, it is necessary to monitor and analyze existing energy consumption to derive reduction measures. In this study, a small and medium-sized food processing plant producing processed meat products was used as a case study to identify and analyze the energy consumption structure at typical cycle/stage level of the batch heating process. From this, we tried to establish realistic and quantitative goals that can be obtained under individual process operating conditions. The results of this study will be used as basic data for the development of diffusion and pervasive energy saving FEMS technology for common core processes of food factories of small and medium-sized enterprises in the future.

Further Analyses on the Contemporary Changes of Profitability for the Firms Belonging to the Chaebol in the Republic of Korea (한국 재벌기업들의 수익성 결정요인에 대한 추세적 심층분석)

  • This study addresses an empirical issue which has been received little attention in the contemporary finance literature: To identify any financial determinants of the profitability indices for the firms belonging to the Korean chaebol. Three hypotheses of concern were postulated and tested for the sample firms covering the periods of the pre-and post-financial global crises. Regarding the results on the 1st hypothesis test of characterizing any financial profiles for the firms (belonging to the chaebols) by estimating a legitimate panel data model: the present study found the statistically significant relationships of the explanatory variables (BVLEVl, MVLEVl, MV/BV, RISK, FCFF and FOS) with the book-value based profitability ratio: while the market-valued profitability index was explained only by BVLEV2. Regarding the 2nd hypothesis test for the profitability of the sample firms at the industry level: the chaebol firms in the chemical and the food industries overall positioned themselves into the top ranks in order, which was tested by the ANCOVA and the Tukey multiple comparison procedure. Finally: on the 3rd hypothesis test for the 'adjusted' Dupont system, only two such as the 'operating margin' and the 'asset turnover' showed their significant effects between the chaebol firms and their counterparts in both the (parametric) independent samples t-test and the (nonparametric) Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney statistics.

우리나라 생명공학기술개발 지원현황

  • 우리나라의 생명공학은 지난 1970년대초 광생물질의 개발, 식품공업의 발전및 농업기술의 개발과 함께 생명공학과 관련되는 산업을 꾸준히 발전시켜 왔으나 전반적으로 기술이 낮은 던계에 머물러 있었고, 1980년대에 들어와서 선진국으로부터 각종기술의 도입과 협력연구 등으로 상당한 수준에 이르게 되었다. 이와 더불어 생명공학의 중요성을 인식하고 국책연구기관및 민간기업을 중심으로 신생명공학기술의 개발에 역점을 두어 기술수준의 제고에 노력한 결과, 몇몇 제품분야에 있어서는 상당한 발전을 보게 되었다. 그러나 미국, 일본을 비롯한 선진국 수준에는 전반적으로 미치지 못하고 아직 초기단계를 벗어나지 못한 상태에 있다. 그러나 정부의 적극적인 지원정책에 힘입어 미간기업의 주도적 연구협력체인 유전공학 연구조합(1982년 3월 설립)과 국책연구기관인 유전공학센터(1985년 2월)가 각각 설립되어 특히 신생명공학의 응용및 개발연구를 활발하게 추진함은 물론 학계에서도 정부정책에 부응하여 관련학과를 신설하는등 관련기초 전문의 교육및 연구를 위하여 최선을 다하고 있으므로 1990년대 이후에는 분야에 따라서는 선진국 수준에 이를 전망이다.

대덕연구학원 도시 건설에 박차

  • 최형섭 과기처장관은 5월 21일 과기처 상황실에서 「현재 건설중인 충청 대덕연구학위도시에 12개 국고립기관이 입주할 것이라」고 밝혔다. 최장관은 또 「정부는 상호 중복된 업무를 담당하는 연구 기관의 통폐합을 검토하고 있으며 이들 기관의 보다 효과적인 연구수행을 위해 각종실험 기기와 연구원의 기준을 협의하여 연내로 유치할 계획이라 」고 말했다. 최장관은 「앞으로 일반기업연구기관도 유치할 방침이며 기업연구기관이 입주 할때는 대통령형 7178호(특정연구기관 육성법)에 따라 동등한 혜택을 받게된다」고 밝혔다. 입주키로 결정을 본 12개기관은 다음과 같다. △국립공업표준시험소 △국립농업자재검사소 △국립농산물검사소 △국립농산물시험검사소 △중앙수산검사소 △중앙전매기술연구소△식품가공연구소△주류기술연구소△철도기술연구소△지질광물연구소△전자통신연구소 △국립보건원일부

  • Many start-ups have many realistic hardships in getting management diagnosis about whether their business model are properly going. For this reason, there is the need for an easy and simple method that makes it possible to conduct a strategic management through the analysis and management diagnosis of the business model. The Business Model Canvas(BMC) has been popularized as a tool to help entrepreneurs describe, design, challenge, invent and pivot their business model. This model gives a framework to describe the most important building blocks(9 blocks) of existing business. Entrepreneurs can make their own business analyses and craft their own solutions through using this model. In this study, we conducted consulting by using the BMC on the NARUATO which is a small start-up in the healthy food industry. This case study can use as a learning material for entrepreneurship education.

  • There were the attempts to prevent the spread of harmful materials of the agri-food through the record tracking of the products with the bar code, the partial information tracking of the agri-food storage and the delivery vehicle, or the control of the temperature by intuition. However, there were many problems in the attempts because of the insufficient information, the information distortion and the independent information network of each distribution company. As a result, it is difficult to prevent the spread over the life-cycle of the agri-food using the attempts. To solve the problems, we propose the mechanism mainly to do context awareness, predict, and track the harmful materials of agri-food using big data processing.

  • This study examines the reason of a staggering trade deficit on the Korean agro-food industry. To achieve the goal of the study, this study suggests the policy implication for enlargement a trade deficit with foreign exchange rate. Despite the majority of grain importer does realize that there is a huge affection for price volatility on the business result, they are more likely to take flat pricing through the physical market to avoid risk of price volatility with exchange rate. Also the analysis of external and internal environments around the Korean agro-food export & import are conducted, particularly with the analysis of trade volume and food price affecting the export & import. Results from a survey show that the common factor to the effective use of overseas agricultural and foreign currency futures trading for grain traders in Korea.

  • This study is aimed at giving directions for the development of fresh food delivery packaging design in the domestic e-commerce market. First literature study of food consumption trend, cold chain system and zero waste campaign related to e-commerce food market. Second, packaging designs of e-commerce fresh food in domestic and foreign were analyzed and also the prospective studies were checked to find out the future direction of packaging designs. Studies show that the packaging design of delivery for fresh food should not only be kept freshness, also consider the usefulness, convenience and environmental protection from various angles.

Changes in Korean Consumer's Perception and Attitudes toward Genetically-modified Foods (우리나라 국민의 유전자재조합식품에 대한 인지도 및 수용도 변화)

  • A survey on consumer's awareness and perception toward genetically-modified(GM) foods was conducted on 2110 random samples of Korean consumers. More than 65% of the respondents were exposed to some information related to GM foods. The respondents answered that the greatest benefit of the development of GM foods is remedy of potential food shortages in the future. More than 90% of Korean consumers wanted GM foods to be labeled as such. More than 50% of the respondents would not buy until they know more about GM foods. Only 35.8% of Korean consumers were found to know that food items originating from plants contained genes. More consumers responded that they would not buy herbicide-resistant GM soybean but buy vitamin-enriched GM soybean. Many Korean consumers' decision of acceptance or rejection of GM foods depend not on the basis of biotechnology, but on the basis of the degree of benefit to the consumers. Only 6.4% of Korean consumers responded that GM foods were the greatest threat to the safety of Korean foods. The perception of Korean consumers on GM foods has not changed significantly during the past 5 years.
